Is there really only one really good 3D platformer on 3DS?

So I played a decent amount of rachet and clank and felt like playing a 3D platformer on the go. The only issue? Their aren't many.

First, I've already played Mario 3D land, besides that I know the early skylander 3DS games were platformers, but I'm not buying a bunch of toys, so that really leaves just the lego games which, from the demos I've played, are less than steller on 3DS. Can anyone think of a really good one besides Super Mario 3D land?

Rayman 3D, especially when played on a N3DS at full clock speed via custom firmware (eliminates all slowdown)

Hard to believe but I never really thought much about it. I can't think of any 3d platformers on the 3DS other than 3d land. There's tons of 2d ones though if you like 2d as well. I'd recommend DKC Returns personally.

Ah, gotcha, thanks Jordan. And how are those games?

I'v only played the 3DS one but I would say it's kinda ok? I dislike how they made the character move really slow to artificially make the game feel longer. If you could run, I bet the game could be beaten in 2 hours.

Like the rest of Shinens games, the only good draw is that it's an impressive tech demo for 3DS (it does do 60fps at 3D which is impressive). As well as the music/sound fx are good if you crave for 90s arcade nostalgia.

Sunshine's markedly better than 3D Land. Sunshine is flawed, has tons of padding, but 3D Land represents a homogenization of 3D Mario, AND has padding on top of all of that.
I think it comes down to a matter of personal taste.

This will sound really weird, but back in the day I was somewhat disappointed that Mario 64 wasn't basically what 3D Land and 3D World are. I still loved 64, don't get me wrong, but 3D World is one of my favorite games of all time, with 3D Land being my second favorite 3D Mario. Both games were what I always wanted out of 3D Mario, with both Galaxy games being close to the right idea.

If you have a Vita, there's Tearaway & ports of Sly Cooper and the aforementioned Ratchet & Clank.

My Vita also has the Crash Bandicoot games since I was lucky enough to download them during the 24-hours or so where everything that you owned on the PSN could be downloaded to the Vita (grabbed Brave Story also while I was at it). :)

Worst part is, even while 3D Land is a very good game, the only 3D platformer the 3DS has is the one that is easily considered the weakest 3D Mario.

You say this like there is wide consensus on 3D Land bring a weak or disliked entry when this isn't the case. It got a broad amount of critical and player praise, sold well, and lots of people like myself consider it one of the finest 3D Mario games ever made.

Like any Mario entry, it has its detractors, but "easily considered" is pretty hyperbolic.

tbh 3D World is also like the only good 3D plattformer on the Wii U

And the terrible camera and controls make Sunshine a waaay worse experience than 3D Land

...Unfortunately, I can't think of a single good 3DS 3D platformer. Though it's not like other platforms are doing much better - 3D platformers are rarer and rarer nowadays. Just gotta wait until the indie ones come out to fill the void, I guess~

The joke is that 3D Land isn't good.

The first two Skylanders games are good and have a bit of a Crash Bandicoot vibe. If you could find a copy on clearance you can beat it with just the figures it comes with. You need one of each element if you want to 100% the games though.

Other than Rayman I honestly can't think of any other 3D Platformers on 3DS though.

Eh, you should rather play some classics if you have a Vita, either from the PS1/2 days or from the PSP store (Daxter is fukken amazing)

As BooJoh mentioned, you don't need to buy a bunch of toys for Skylanders. You can play it with just one (the extras are required if you want evey hat and bonus). With the later ones (starting with Swap Force) you can even just scan someone else's in and they're stored to the game card directly.

It's a good series overall and I recommend the original one on 3DS and Swap Force on consoles.

We do need more platformers though.

3D land is OK. I don't think it had as good controls or physics as the 3D Marios on consoles.

Jett Rocket 2 was all right.

In short, there really aren't are any, and there really should be.

Just wait until you see the people try to convince you it's not a 3D Mario!
Or did that only apply to 3D World?

Well nobody was expecting Galaxy 3 on 3DS. They might start complaining if we get a 3D Land 2 on the next handheld.

I really want a 3D Land 2 on the next handheld.

Gonna echo Rayman 3D, but only with a homebrewed n3DSs w/ the clock speed raised as mentioned above. Pretty slim pickings otherwise.

Grab a vita it's got Jak, Ratchet, Sly cooper, etc. I think it's quite hard to make a 3d platformer without a second stick so that's probably why.

Also PS1 classics of Spyro, Crash etc if you're in the EU at least. Personally I think Spyro is the best 3d platformer of all time :)

I have a Vita, don't those have awful framerates due to being PS3 downports rather than PS2 up ports?

They're ported from the PS3 and were done on a tight budget, so yeah if you can't stand framerate in the 20's you probably wouldn't enjoy them :(

whaaat? 3d land is not the weakest. in my eyes sunshine and 3d world are both weaker. having said that, the weakest 3d mario is still a great game

I almost want to be cheeky and suggest Kingdom Hearts 3D even though it isn't labelled as such.
But the 'flowmotion' does provide a lot of fun bouncing around the environment.

Well, it's not as if there is a lot of 3D plateformer to begin with so i'm not surprised there is not more on 3DS.
- Rayman 2
- 3D Land
- That Jet Rocket II game
- Sonic Lost World 3DS (didn't played it)
- Pac-Man & The Ghostly Adventures 2 (just learnt about it)

It's five and it's not that bad for a console nowadays. Even on PS Vita all you can find is old PS1 classic. (And maybe one Ratchet ?)

Don't listen to this, the Jak port on Vita is a buggy frustrating mess. Rayman 3D is great, grab that.

The Jak Collection on Vita is fairly bad as far as playability goes. I mean, I did platinum Jak & Daxter, but it took a while before I got used to the input lag and poor framerate. Jak II is infuriating...

From what I've played of Ratchet & Clank, I'd recommend it. The resolution is still sub-native, but higher than the Jak Collection, and the framerate is pretty solid. I think it runs at 30 though? Not sure. They play pretty well though.

Sly Cooper Collection is supposed to be the best of the bunch. I haven't actually played it yet though haha.

Another good Vita platformer is Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. Runs natively, and performs mostly well. There are hiccups here and there.
