Is this bomberman?

*wince* Hudson has killed my inner child.

And replaced it with a Man Living on the Edge, Powered by Technology and Driven by One Simple Purpose... TO BOMB.

If they wanted to make it serious, why didn't they just make it SuicideBomberman?

Goddamnit, you guys almost killed me! I was eating something when I clicked on this thread, started laughing and ended up choking. My coworkers were ready to call 911

Why cant we go back to the good old days?

Didn't you read the bottom scan? FPB!

oh my fracking goodness. I now know why I won't buy an xbox 360. If I do, i contribute to the bastardization of video games

I think it looks pretty good. As long as there are some sweet explosions. This "Bomberman" doesn't look angsty or anything, he's just hardcore. :P I do prefer the wacky jappy bomberman instead, but if the gameplay is there, it could be good.

I'm pretty confident they'll keep making normal Bomberman games, so this looks great.

Who gives a fuck about new Bomberman games anymore? Since Saturn Bomberman and Super Bomberman 5 in 1997, every Bomberman has been mere shells of what it used to be.

This isn't surprising but to tell you the truth, its better than the dozens of Bomberman Platformers, racers, and RPGs that were shat out this generation.

I would actually cry if they do this to Mario or any other cutesy characters like Kirby or something. It's just uncalled for. Bomberman was probably Hudson's only memerable character ever. When was the last proper iconic games character? I can only think of Mastercheif in the last generation, there hasn't been one for years.

This does look pretty generic but as some have said already, at least they're trying something slightly different. There's only so many ways they can make the "original style" Bomberman different and so far 90% of their attempts to do so have failed. At least give this one a chance, besides, I'm sure the original style Bomberman will show up on Live Arcade at some point...

The industry no longer needs mascots to survive, which probably explains why there hasn't been a big push towards making games based around them

I hate the look but I could maybe forgive it if it has some great online modes. I'd rather just have a traditional Bomberman game on Xbox Live Arcade though.

Doesn't really explain all the milking of the existing mascots though, like all the Mario games. I mean, why keep the Bomberman name at all?

First person bommer?

:lol

By the look of some screens, seems like at least a traditional mode will be available to play, hopefully on live.

The second scan shows some old-school Bomberman action gameplay. Maybe that's why.

Wow... that is just horrible. The standard bomberman design has reached an iconic status... and they would throw that all away for something utterly generic. Unbelievable... :(

I dont see what the problem is. When has a Bomberman game ever looked different from the other? this is the only time the series has been given such a drastic visual change. don't a lot of you claim to want new things? if this game was not called Bomberman, this thread would not even be on the main page

the game looks good. i like that the classic top down view remains. shouldnt that be enough? BM has always been about great multiplayer and youd be a fool to think hudson is not including xbox live support. seems like an interesting update to a solid franchise

Did anybody else not notice that Bomberman, and um, Bomberlady, are black?
Isn't that a little, well, racist.
Hudson HQ: We need the toughest, scariest looking Bomberman ever!
Hudson Programming Drone: Um, Ok. How about we do this dude in all sorts of rad armor and chains and crap?
Hudson HQ: Make him black and you've got a deal.
While I think games would do better to be being more representitive of the world at large(me sick of controlling a bunch of bland protagionists), this does not seem like a good idea.

The Poochie analogy is more relevent here then ever.

I totally wish they had just done this game exactly like they had always done it. Not changing anything about it. Of course I wouldn't have bought the game then because as we all know it would be exactly the same as every other bomberman ever made. I would then of course bitch about the terrible sales of the bomberman franchise (to which I never contributed to anyway) and lament about the good old days when bomberman was a major franchise. All the while I would lambast this title because they didn't bother to change anything and call them all lazy rehash devs who no talent. Why can't they do anything different!

Yeah I like how that works out.

A few people in this thread are acting as if the only two options that Hudson had were this XTREME! generic-looking game design, or the same old-school rehash. Come the fuck on. If they wanted to go with a new style, there's so much middle ground they could have chosen from. The new wave of mascot games that came out this gen, especially on PS2, are proof of that.

Master Chief is quite recognizable mascot.
