Is TitanFall kinda being pushed on us?

Usually if there's hype surrounding a game I'm personally not excited for, I can still see and understand why other people would be hyped up for it. But with Titanfall I'm just at a loss. It looks like a typical multiplayer shooter with mechs and jetpacks added, and I really have no idea why it's on so many "best of" lists based on all the stuff I've seen at E3. Was the impressive stuff shown behind closed doors and locked up in NDAs?

I thought it won all of those awards at E3 because it deserved them. It was my personal game of the show.

Game looks absolutely fantastic.

Yeah, I really don't get it. So many incredible games were announced this year, and this is the game they choose? I've watched all the conferences, and I couldn't even remember what Titanfall was until I re-watched the gameplay video.

I don't think it's being "shoved down our throats" per se, but the press has definitely had a more inflated reaction to the game than the kinds of responses I've seen online on fora and comment sections. I don't think this is simply paid marketing activity, however. Listening to the Insert Credit podcast, for example, guys like Tim Rogers are in love with what they played and saw in Titanfall, and I have no doubt in my mind that he hasn't been paid a dime by anyone.

Funny, I wanted to say something similar a few days back but I knew I'd just get shoved down some stairs.

Normally you have a community excitement over games or a general gaming journalistic buzz but there's something about TitanFall, I've heard some mixed stuff about it, seen lots of these "Reminds me a bit too much of Call of Duty" but it still feels like forced marketing, like there's this fabricated buzz surrounding it.

I can't put my finger on it.

There is something..fake about it. Like you said it is really hard to pin down.

I know this is crazy but I just don't see a console shooter with no singleplayer campaign being as successful. All the best-selling MP titles have at least a tacked-on SP.

Woah.
Blast from the past.

Titanfall looks neat. I don't see the problem with people that played it being excited by what they saw.

Titanfall may be pushed on you. The only products being pushed hard to me were Oculus HD and EVR. It's obvious that they have some of my money already and they want me to be excited by the idea of giving them more. I am.
6s to 9s out of 10. Many reviewers will say $60 is too much for an MP only game and tell readers to wait for a price drop or until there is more content.
And I will ask those reviewers if they saw... Starsiege: Tribes.

Looks like a cool ass team deathmatch style shooter. I'll probably get it on PC if I suddenly feel like playing those kind of games.

Hopefully it's the new Call of Duty 4 multiplayer-wise.

LOL. Forgot it was an EA game. Never gonna play it!

So its not coming to PS4 for a fair while thread. Like it.

Please don't think this. I'm not the type that makes agenda-driven threads. I'm getting it on PC but even so I'm really interested in the X1 (after the 180) and if I had the money I'd get it at launch because the exclusives look better than PS4's so far. I'm not a Sony guy or MS guy, like them both the same after the 180 but PS4 is $100 cheaper.

the game looks like one of the larger standouts at E3. great looking graphics, great looking gameplay, it's a "new ip". not sure what other title is supposed to be the one deserving all of the praise.

If it wouldn't be Titanfall, it'd be something else.

If Titanfall wasn't the next game Respawn was working on, it'd be something else.

Something something Bioshock Infinite, something something Mass Effect 3.

I'm still trying to grasp what is concerning the OP...

Many things get marketed...

There's only one thread about Titanfall, so i presume that there are no new news...

How is the game being pushed?

To me there didn't really seem to be anything exceptionally exciting or fresh about it. At least with Gears of War last generation the idea of the third person squad shooter was still pretty novel. It also had unbelievable graphics for its day, whereas Titanfall looks merely serviceable.

I dunno, shooters to me these days just kind of run together, and it's rare that any of them really excite me. Destiny looked cool to me, but I also have never played anything like it before, though I know games like it exist (Borderlands).

Press actually got to play the game and I think that plays a lot in to their praise. Most of us here only got to see video so of course we're thinking "Eh, what's so amazing?" because the graphics aren't the best and it looks like it has a lot of the trappings of CoD. The difference again, is that the press PLAYED it and they liked what they played.

Is it really so hard to believe press actually liked the game so much?

It all seems heavily focus tested.

What game is most popular? COD - so let's get the COD guys to make a game that has identical looking shooting mechanics to COD. What else is in fashion? Everything has parkour now so we better have parkour too. Mechs have been cool in a few games like Hawken and films like Pacific Rim - let's thrown some of them in too, and you can board them in mid-air (we bet that's never been done before). The Xbox fanbase really love those sci-fi bro shooters, so we'll just make the armour of the soldier look like.. every other one of those games. And we're using a dated ass Source engine to ensure 60fps (because using old ass tech for performance purposes is another one of our things), so we might as well copy pasta their gravity gun code to let the player catch bullets.

You could track the thought process with a GPS.

I'm going to be blasted to bits for saying it, but I see titanfall as a Up-rezed Starhawk, only with a worse development team in my opinion. People are throwing around the phrase "Bringing mobility back to FPS!" but in Starhawk I was blasting around the maps obscenely fast in a vehicle, or my jetpack, or my Hawk, etc etc etc. I don't actually see this as anything new.

I think it looks good don't get me wrong, and I think it's super cool that the Xbone will get a piece of that type of action. But I wasn't anywhere near impressed with this as I've already invested many hours into Starhawk.

Pretty much this for me too.

Ok I wanted to put "shoved down our throats" instead of "pushed on us" but figured the title would be too inflammatory.

After all the E3 nominations and awards TitanFall has received and the sort of tepid reaction to that among gamers, does anyone else feel like the gaming media is pushing this on us hardcore as the next big thing? Think of it like with Hollywood films and how studios and media many times manufacture the next tentpole film with tons of hype and marketing.

From all the E3 Awards threads I've read where TitanFall is dominating the awards people have basically said "really?" and I agree. It looks great and I can't wait to play it but I can say the same thing about a bunch of other games shown so why TitanFall got so many noms and awards? I just found it a little strange, like we're getting blitzed with this game so it manufactured into the next blockbuster.

Maybe someone else can describe what I'm trying to say more clearly.

Or maybe "gamers" (by which I think you mean "NeoGaf posters") are being unduly negative about everyone and everything associated with Microsoft in the wake of their major anti-consumer blunder.

One of those two things . . .

I've felt the same way. It's like all microsoft had to say was "this is gonna be awesome" and suddenly everyones acting like it's GOTY already.

Maybe I just have a bias because I couldn't care less about an online multiplayer game, and couldn't care less if its from the developers of a franchise I haven't enjoyed in a long time.

The only thing that excites me about it is the source engine.

Literally the only thing, and it's a silly technical curiosity that 99.9% of people don't care about.

It looks like a very polished and well put together competitive multiplayer expirience. With that said, I don't get the surge of hype for it. I know exactly what you are talking about OP but I can't really put it into words. There's nothing about the game that is game changing. It just seems like another shooter where the main goal is to achieve the highest possible kill to death ratio. No signs of emphasis on team or objective play. Nothing innovative. It brings acrobatics and mechs to COD.

I personally believe a lot of the media has been bought out.

This game looks decent, but the press are praising it like crazy. Seems fishy.

Uh no?

I saw it once at E3 and thats it. Maybe if you go into every thread that is about titanfall or read every single article about it you can feel that way.....

As if the last of us didnt have the most extravagent marketing or halo

I am not sure who is supposedly shoving it down our throats? I mean, MS is certainly, because this is their big get. But other than that, most publications just seemed to really think it was awesome.

Personally, I think it looks pretty cool. Literally the last competitive shooter I played was CoD4, so I don't know if I'll buy this right out of the gate, but I certainly don't feel as if though it's being shoved down my throat.

Obviously it is going to be pushed. It's a very big budget game and it carries the weight of a game that will be the main reason for someone to buy an XB1 for a while.MS and EA are betting too much on it so they are going to moneyhat whatever piece of media they can to say good words for it.

Well to be fair those people likely played it. I'm optimistic about the game but I'm a "glass half full" kind of guy anyway.

I guess from the sounds of it, however I'm not into AAAA modern shooters so I couldn't even tell you who is making it (blizzard or bungie maybe?) and wouldn't recognize it if I saw it.

Not as much as Kinect.
Jokes aside, I think Titanfall deserves whatever attention it gets!

Game looks amazing can't wait to play it. Will probably skip the first COD game next gen.
It looks too much like last gen and I probably spent more time on COD games in the current gen then anything else.
