Is TitanFall kinda being pushed on us?

So what you are saying is that there is a Sony conspiracy? lol

I'd like to think there can be a distinction between a vocal segment of a message board posturing every statement and event in the game industry in terms of surreptitious payoffs, and someone pointing out that that behavior is in fact taking place.

Most game journalists will give it GOTY nods and barely play it themselves.

Yeah this is kinda blaffing. See, When I first saw this game I thought this was going to be a really solid next gen shooter but then as more info emerged I'm thinking, uh, maybe this one maybe more hype than substance.

I mean, We thought it had a single player component to it which meant probably a cool back story to the universe but then found out it was online only. Cool but then I heard that it's 6v6? Is this true and is it confirmed? If it is true then wow, as fun as it maybe as a game, this one seem to be riding a hype train.

So what you are saying is that there is a Sony conspiracy? lol

No...but there is a definite strong preference for it due to how awesome Sony has been with the PS4 so far, and a vocal distate for the X1 due to M$'s blunders...i think it absolutely has led to some unfair bias in peoples views regarding the game. I'm not saying it would be viewed in the same light as Dark Souls or Witcher (Given the hate that the COD series gets on here) but I doubt it would be as harsh if it was on PS4/PS3/PC instead of X1/360/PC.

I am somewhat surprised at the amount of attention its received given that it really doesn't seem to be all that radical a departure from FPS norms. It doesn't look nearly as good visually to me as all its direct competitors (Destiny's art direction is far better imho), and while I can well believe it plays really well... I just don't find it exciting.

On the other hand it does strike me that a lot of the enthusiast press have been desperately trying to salvage some positives from MS' miserable showing at E3. I don't care to speculate why that is (although I do have my suspicions) , but to say I don't feel that this is the case would be lying.

Personally I thought it just looked like a cool evolution of Call of Duty. It might end up being pretty great, but I kind of got sick of Call of Duty shooting mechanics a good while ago. We will see how the final product is though, the game is still almost a year away from release.

The weirdest thing about it is how everyone seems to forget there is going to be a PC version.

So what you are saying is that there is a Sony conspiracy? lol

No he's saying people who aren't getting an xbone don't have PCs to play Titanfall on... or something like that...

I'd understand this "it's xbox exclusive -> hate" argument if we were talking about FM5 or Ryse...
but Titanfall is available on 360 and PC as well - and I think the vast majority on this forum has access to both these platforms and if not then at least to one of them... and there's the high probability this game will be on PS4 as well (although one year later)...

As a big mecha/sci-fi fan, I reeally wish this game had story-based solo play. I know tons of people will enjoy the multiplayer-only focus, but with my work schedule, I'm more of a narrative guy...

The attention this game gets baffles me.

It's as generic as it gets (for reference I think the same thing about Shadowfall)

It looks extremely uninteresting except for maybe the whole "multiplayer campaign" concept.

It does look to be a solid game and I'm sure is going to be super fun though.

Destiny, on the other hand, does look genuinely interesting.

This theory falls apart when you realize the game in question is also available on PC. Personally I feel this has more to do with those (like myself) that has tired of the CoD formula and hope for something more unique to take it's place. You'll find pretty reductive statements for the game because to those who lost interest in all things CoD don't see it as anything but.

The game looks extremely good; it's being made by the shooter team that's basically reshaped first-person shooters every time they've released a new game, except for MW2, which they had to rush...

It's like nothing out there right now, emphasizes incredible player mobility, has a lot of cool guns, runs super fast (60 FPS is too sexy for its shirt), and is trying to do MP in a new way.

Also, you can rip people out of mechs.

What's not to lose your mind about? It seems like the most exciting nonexclusive game of E3.
MW2 was rushed? I've never heard this. They had 2 years like they did between CoD 2 and 4. And most of the art assets were created for CoD 4.

I guess I joined GAF after the worst of the previous gen console war stuff had already passed, but seriously, shit is getting out of hand.

Not everybody who likes an MS exclusive or the Xbox One is a shill. Just because you personally don't like a game or a genre or an art-style doesn't make that game overhyped or overrated nor does it mean that the press has been bought. And just because Microsoft's DRM policies and vision for the future may be abhorrent to many (or even most) doesn't mean that everything they interact with is garbage.

Its also better to appreciate something for what it is rather then what you think it looks kindof like.

I keep going back and forth on it. At first, I always wanted to champion whatever project Respawn came out with after the epic rip job by Activision.
But then, it was an Xbone game.
But then, it was a Mech Game!
But then, the Xbone wasn't the Xbone.
But then, everyone is just slobbering all over this thing in the media. I mean, it's cool, but it's just another shooter basically. Makes me want to hate it.

After all the E3 nominations and awards TitanFall has received and the sort of tepid reaction to that among gamers,

Uhh what tepid reaction? I was here in GAF when E3, and most people here loved TitanFall.

From all the E3 Awards threads I've read where TitanFall is dominating the awards people have basically said "really?" and I agree. It looks great and I can't wait to play it but I can say the same thing about a bunch of other games shown so why TitanFall got so many noms and awards? I just found it a little strange, like we're getting blitzed with this game so it manufactured into the next blockbuster.

Maybe someone else can describe what I'm trying to say more clearly.

I think what you find strange is why so many awards if it doesn't look as something really new / innovative / nextgen. And it's true, it's "just" a multiplayer game with a bit more mobility than usual and mechs. But do you know what? it looks really fun, and that's what matters.

There you have it folks! Titanfall's awards are just a "consolation prize" that journalists are giving Microsoft for having a "miserable showing".

They're all doing this to make Microsoft "feel better" about their showing.

i dont mind the titanfall hype. It deserves it, it really looks like it will be a blast to play.
The cloud on the other hand...

Good points, but some advice. Ignore anyone who calls you a shill for liking a game, regardless of platform. Those people are often the worse kinds of console warriors/fanboys.

Was the only thing that got me semi-excited from E3 which is as much an indictment on the rest of the line-up as a compliment to Titanfall itself.

It seems like the same thing that happened with cod 4. Not sure if that was natural or not though.

CoD4 was definitely natural. No one even considered that it would overtake halo for most played game on XBL. It was also around the time that Halo's popularity dwindled.

I realized that so I added more. But to be more clear, the hype around this game makes it seem like its something fresh and game changing. I don't see anything game changing. It doesn't bring anything to the genre at all from what we have seen.
Firstly, I disagree that the majority of the press are calling this "game changing" or "revolutionary". Mostly just fresh and, more importantly, fun. Fun is pretty self explanatory but why fresh? These are the reasons I've heard:

* The dichotomy and balance between mech combat and pilot combat
Apparently they've managed to both make the control and feel of playing as a pilot and mech significantly different from each other while maintaining balance between the two. Mech's aren't OP against pilots and vice versa and there are trade offs between being one or the other. The fact that they're so ingrained in to the design of the game is why this is fundamentally different from just getting a mech vehicle in a CoD match. This is why I get annoyed when people reduce this thing to "lol CoD with mechs".

* Character Movement
People want to downplay this for some reason but if you added double jump and wall running to CoD, it would totally change the game. Do people not remember how big a deal people made of adding sprinting in Halo? That's because it fundamentally changes the meta game and options available to you in any given scenario. Wall running and double jumping (plus ledge grabbing) means they have to make maps completely different from your average CoD map (or any other MP game without those options) and when you add the mech factor, you add a whole other factor that has to be taken in to consideration.

* Melding of SP and MP
This is a different because no game has tried that to this extent. Brink is the closest I can think of but it's not to the level of adding AI enemies (who I have heard compared to MOBA style creeps), and cinematic style events and story. The fact that people in the thread about Titanfall being singleplayer only thought the gameplay demo WAS singleplayer is a testament to it. We still don't know a lot about this in particular but I think the demo showed a pretty good idea of what they're going for.

The main thing though and the particular reason I get annoyed at the reductionist attitude is ALL of these things are combined in one game. What other game includes ALL of this stuff? I had this same argument with people about Shadowrun when people just called it Halo with powers and I would reply "What other non-modded FPS lets you see your enemy above you through the ceiling, teleport through the floor behind them, block their bullets with your katana, and blow them off the roof with a force push?". You can break out any one element and say "Yeah, X game has that too. Why is this so special?" when the reality is that it has elements X,Y, and Z purposefully combined in to a cohesive design. Hopefully at least.

I don't like the "multiplayer only" thing on this game. I don't buy MP only games... and I think there are too many FPS out there. I don't think this will be a huge success as many think.

By the way, I like Destiny, but if it's MP only, I won't buy it either...

Well said, and im assuming Destiny will be MP only also. Like a MMO Borderlands

I really don't feel that. The game does look like fun to me though, but no it doesn't feel like the game is being shoveled down my throat.

Cheers for throwing some of that common sense and logic out into the GAF wilderness.

I can't stand 'console war' bullshit and brand loyalists.

I'm more perplexed by the love for Destiny. That was one of the most boring demos I've ever seen.

The first 4/5 was mind numbing... but the last 5th was like OMG wat!? this would be AWESOME if i actually had friends who gave a damn about anything besides COD and 2k1X bball

What's also a really cool idea is that the mechs have their own AI. So when you leave it you can have it guard an area until you return.

Agreed.

Destiny looks uninspired, boring and above all generic.

Activision is going to have to market the crap out of that game because I can't see it doing well otherwise.

I can't stand how awesome this game looks. I've been hypnotized to watch the trailer at least once every other day. It's sickening.

I personally think the game looks rubbish ant can't see what all the hype is about to be honest. I expected better from the guys at Respawn. I won't be buying it thats for sure.

Most of the "backlash" and "shocked responses" are from those that are extremely negative towards any and everything Xbox.
The message board climate it currently skewed towards Sony (whether its justified or not is another debate), and you're going to obviously get skewed responses when the game is not on PS3 or PS4.

You wanna see "shoved down our throats" throughout Neogaf history?
Look at Killzone 2 gifs or GT5 gifs. That shit was obnoxious.

It seems that even the tiniest bit of positive news for anything Xbox is spun as a negative conspiracy theorist bullshit.

Developers are paid off.
Journalists are paid off.
Forum members are paid off.

Get a fucking grip.
listen don mattrick

stop money hatting kojima and the pazer dragoon dude

it will make me buy an xbone

they can push it as much as they want, my anus is ready

I'd probably be tempted if the PC wasn't getting the superior version. MS kinda fucked up by letting such a big "exclusive" go to PC as well (but I thank them so much for it <3)

Jesus Christ what is wrong with you guys, you only feel that way because you dislike the game, it's not being pushed on you, guess what the press do actually enjoy the game that much. There is no agenda for Gods sake. I feel like people are biased against it since firstly it's being made by the formed heads of infinity ward and Call of Duty, and a lot of GAF hates Call of Duty (rightfully so since these guys left), I also feel the Xbone console exclusivity is really hurting it's perception here. The title looks fresh to me and is moving the stilted Call of Duty style shooter multiplayer forward in unique ways, the wall-running and mechs aspects look really fun.

I know their pedigree is shooters, but anyone else disappointed that Respawn's first project is yet another shooter? I guess it's the safest route to take all considered, almost as safe as this game looks . Personally, I can't help feel but underwhelmed at the sheer amount of shooters at E3 this year nevermind which one is grabbing the spotlight.

Game looks boring as hell. If I want a real game with mech, I'd chose the next Armored Core over Titanfall any day of the week.

So yes, 'shoved down our throats' = kinda my feeling too. But it's to be expected for any AAA games.
