Is TitanFall kinda being pushed on us?

The guy you quoted explained how its not just a twist on COD but you are still confused. The "tweaks" are significant to the gameplay and from what we've seen should be appreciated by multiplayer shooter fans. Its like a football game adding new moves or a modified running system.. Even though the game would still look like a bunch of football players the core gameplay has changed significally. Changing the setting to something not military to address the "it looks like COD" concerns would have only made an aesthetic difference.

Much of the ground combat literally looks like they stitched in COD footage from the next gen COD game if that game didn't look like absolute underwhelming dog shit.

I guess I see this game and "we purposefully didn't target the strongest hardware" statement going hand in hand.

I pretty much can't stand COD at this point. I did like the first MW a lot, so like I said, will most likely pick this up to try out.

And if the other poster was replying to me, I put my xbox preorder back in because I am not excited about any of the ps4 launch titles. I think KI looks awesome, and am crossing my fangers they don't totally ruin what made the first DR awesome.

I liked how the game looked until I saw this-

XP bonuses. I really hope we don't go through another generation of XP points popping up all game. There's gotta be a better way to reward people for teamwork then this. :\
To be fair, they kind of invented the whole XP stuff for shooters. (I know, I know, battlefield 2, but Cod 4 did it right)

You know, just an observation but this is like the only active thread on TitanFall, meanwhile The Last of Us has like 5 active threads. Also this thread has more posts than the thread talking about the 60fps gameplay video.

Moreover it is not prominently featured on most of the major sites.

Gametrailers is the only major site that has a feature on it...

Good post. The idea that it is somehow forcefully "pushed on us" is pretty weird. The game is so far from release that the marketing has barely begun yet.

One of the best surprises of this last E3.

Yeah but the whole "Xbox One exklusiv" shenanigan soured it immensely for me.

:lol Not surprised to see this thread on GAF after reading/listening to the positive feedback the game is getting. I will admit that Titfanfall receiving some Game of the Show awards surprised me somewhat, but "pushed on us"? Nah, I don't see that, at all. Seems more like reactionary console war bias than anything else.

Titanfall looks fun to me. Very fun. I would probably get it if I were buying an X1 this year (PS4 will be the 1st next gen console I buy). If the game plays as fun as it looks, then I could see why it won some awards. The whole mech vs ground combat looks like silly fun. The kind of fun I could easily waste 100hrs+ on.

But really...
It is not being pushed as much as the increasingly clever "have you seen Titanfall" jokes.

..I have to agree. This clever meme has bled over into some OT threads I've read. It makes it hard to believe most of the hate directed towards the game isn't strictly because of console war bullshit:

xbone xclusive
Or maybe "gamers" (by which I think you mean "NeoGaf posters") are being unduly negative about everyone and everything associated with Microsoft in the wake of their major anti-consumer blunder.

One of those two things . . .

Yup.

It's like Call of Duty bro.

(Thank God I don't actually know any dudebros)

You are so cool

Indeed it is, MS trying to get an exclusive Call of Duty.

Hope it fails.

Maybe a little off topic, but I don't understand this mentality in general.

"I hope it fails" like....really? Why? Because it's on Xbox? Why would anyone want a game to fail? Why wouldn't you hope a game turns out great? It's even on PC if you're never going to buy an XBOX.

I've experienced fanboyism on the internet for a long, long time but hoping a game fails because of the platform it's on is so extreme that i'll never understand it. How do these people not realize how ridiculously absurd they're acting? Or how completely binary they're being about "Opposite platform's game? Omg it's bad."

I don't think i'll ever understand stuff like this. The level of emotional investment in a brand-name that's required is just...ugh it's too much.

Pretty much. I mean, who cares about the combination of the seamless blending of SP and MP; the addition of traversal options like wall running, double jumping and ledge climbing; large scale battles involving both AI and player-controlled enemies and smooth fast paced mech combat? Every FPS has these now and there's nothing differentiating them outside of art style and time period.

Is it that difficult to not take the reductionist path and make educated posts? Quit lowering the quality of discussion.

The hyperbole is strong in this one....

Sad how some people want this game to fail but in reality, it's probably gonna do really well.

Haters gonna hate though, right?

TitanFall is to Call of Duty as Destiny is to Halo.

You're going to notice similarities because it's coming from the same creators, but both games will be an entirely different experience and both look amazing!

This game looks like a fun time, but yes, I do think it's being hyped to somewhat unreasonable levels, and I'm not quite sure why. Sure, mechs are cool and all that, but does the game really look that amazing? I'm not sure I think so.

So what you're saying is that it's basically Unreal Tournament with the FPS equivalent of a super mushroom power-up?

We're going to have another what 10+ years of military FPS, why not mix it up?

Yeah, I have to say, I'm burnt out on the "modern combat" shit. Sci-Fi or WW1/2 pls. I can't believe how bad I'm dying for a AAA WW2 shooter, probably because Planetside 2 helped quell my fix for Sci-Fi stuff for now.

I think MS is pushing hard in it's messaging to have it be Xbone's Halo. I never understood the hype for that game either.

It just feels odd because I feel like they're trying to squeeze more significance out a MP game than there is there. But it's not like they seem to have any choice at the moment. They can't very well have the defining game of the system be Forza regardless of how good it is.

So, what it boils down to is criticizing a game because other people like it and you're not interested.

Here's the funny thing. No one has to play it. And you can ignore it. I have a general dislike or ambivilance to Nintendo and yet somehow I manage to avoid every single thread about Nintendo. For those in supsense as to why, I'll tell you. Because I don't bother with things I'm not into and I don't fault other people for being into it.

When I have to actively search for information about something, then no, it's not being pushed on me. I've seen more threads about this game in a negative light than a positive one...on GAF anyway. (This one, the cloud, have you seen titanfall). People just seem to be really cranky that MS has anything positive coming out of their camp.

Respawn isn't in MS' camp though. A lot of people feel that way but it's all but officially confirmed to be timed exclusivity for Titanfall.

What you posted was equivalent actually.

Its multiplayer only FPS...not for me, but hey for fans of that it looks great at what it does so if folks are having fun then thats all that matters. If you dont like it then just dont buy into it because its the popular thing to pickup so you have stuff to talk about.

As much money as Activision has put into the game and the huge risks Bungie have taken to move away from Halo and start over scratch with a new ip, they will do everything possible pr wise to make this game a success. Both companies want desperately for this game to take off and be a huge hit, so the pr machine for the game is just getting started. Expect to see this game a lot until it has been out several months.

It looks fun. But doesn't look like it couldn't have been a 360 game. I guess it's to be expected given the developers (never the best looking, gameplay was always there though)

I think the lack of it being jaw dropping paired with the recent anti-consumer nature of Microsoft has left this game off my radar. I'm going to get an xbone but in a year or two and since this games predominately MP ill never experience it Fully. Shame but here's hoping TitanFall 2 is multiplat or I have a Xbox one by then so I can dabble with the mechs

It looks like Cod, with mechs, with jetpacks and parkour.. So the multiplayer crowd will defiantly love it.. I don't know if it will take off as the next big thing though.

It's everyone jumping on the "next big thing". It looks interesting to play, and may be fun, but I don't get all the excitement from gaming "journalists". No sp pretty much sealed the deal. So I agree with you, it's being pushed on us.

Can't blame, the game looks solid, very challenging and focused, rather games made over gameplay than cinematic exacerbated emotional dramas.

People just seem to be really cranky that MS has anything positive coming out of their camp.

To be fair, if one was very interested in this game and it being (currently?) tied to a lesser console, what's not to be cranky about? I mean, I would have been cranky about Insomniac working on an exclusive for this barnacle of a system... had the Insomniac game looked any good, that is. That said, I don't really get why anyone would want it to fail. If it's a solid game it's a solid game and then the developer deserves to have a hit.

Of course, the upside to Titanfall is that it's also releasing on PC, but I guess not everyone has a PC capable of playing games.

Wut? O__O

Can someone please clarify that this is in fact what I just read? Did that post come from an alternate reality?

I think... I think I've had enough Gaf for today.

I don't think people understood OP when he talks about it being pushed
It's kinda like how Pop music is well popular
It's planted in by the industry

I watched a gameplay video. Standard shooter fare but with the added option of mech suits. I could see how this could be fun with tonnes of people online but seriously. ZZZzzzzzzz

They can push all they like but they're not getting my money.

So positive previews from E3 by the media since they played it on the Xbox one in playable form, game-play should be amazing since they have a lot of new game-play mechanics.

However lot's of gaffers say it doesn't look that great, it is a launch game after-all and multi-player based so with all the players on screen the graphics will be toned down a lot. It will however be 60 FPS constant and dedicated servers for lag-less gaming.
