So, was the mistake intentional or is he really an idiot?
Does he think Rockman & Forte/Megaman & Bass is 9? (It's 8.5)
Did he think Zero was a girl?
Heck, 7, 8 and Forte were all released after the first X.

How does this work out? He's been gaming all his life:

It almost seems like Tycho is being pompous, telling everyone that X should be MM10 and anyone who thinks otherwise is ignorant. I could be reading into it too much, but it's so hard to believe he'd make a casual-gamer mistake.
 
Yeah I looked at that and went WTF?
Megaman 7 came out after X anyway, last game being 8.

We'll see what they say next time.
 
Umm... no, that isn't the obvious joke. The obvious joke is that Gabe is a moron because he doesn't understand the roman numeral system.

The real joke is that the writer dropped the ball and will be rammed repeatedly up the ass by crazy Megaman fanboys over the next couple days.
 
Dr. Light even says that his names is X (Ecks) because of his limitless potential (i.e. he is the variable x, which is capable of being anything).
 
Tycho's a somewhat intelligent person. He also loves to fuck with people. I'm sure he's doing this just for the notoriety. He can't wait until his inbox is flooded with angry MegaMan fanmail.

And FFX-2 is not X-2, it's TEN-2. As stupid as it sounds, and what little sense it makes, it's true. It is a sequel to final fantasy 10. It's not a sequel to X.
 
It's not that funny, but I'm sure it's supposed to be a joke. This argument probably happened alot with real people and they might be amused now.
 
I've been reading Penny Arcade since a few months after it started and yeah, this is one of the worst ones. Maybe the whole "10 not X" thing is making me too critical and I can't just take a joke, but this is just didn't make me laugh.

Of course, I only laugh out loud at maybe one or two strips every month or so, but still...

It's not a joke, he says that they actually had this conversation. The fact that he made a comic out of a conversation like this pretty much shows that he doesn't get his mistake. If he did, then the joke in the comic would have had to be at his own expense. There's nothing in the comic aside from "Guy who is right and sure that he is right" and "Moron who doesn't understand roman numerals"
 
Yes, Tycho is an idiot. That doesn't really have much to do with this strip, just something anyone that have read pennyarcade would know. If you're a regular reader, you're also an idiot. It's that simple!
 
I knew a guy who swore up and down in all seriousness that Megaman X2 was to be read as "Megaman X Squared" because they put the 2 a little higher than the X.
 
I can't believe this was even questioned, 8 games into the series.

HAHA I was right you fucker! The X does not stand for 10. I've got about a dozen emails from gamers telling me the real deal on the X. There were only eight Megamans, uh…Megamen there were only eight games before X. The X denotes a branching of the Megaman universe. Who’s the junkslut now? I propose that you sir are the junkslut.

It's more the irony that he thinks everyone that pronounces it "X" is an idiot when he is oh so smart for knowing his roman numerals. And seriously how dumb do you have to be to think "X" meant "10" in this case? Does he think X-Men is 10-Men too?
