Is Uncharted -. Golden abyss any good?

It's only impressive graphically. If the series had launched with this game, it would never have received a sequel.

I played it to completion, so that's something. Only issues for me are that the touchscreen QTEs are a bit annoying and I guess the tilt-to-aim is so accurate and intuitive that you end up killing 95% of enemies with headshots. Satisfying but a bit too easy.

Overall it's well worth playing, and it's certainly a tech showcase for the Vita with some impressive visuals.

I liked it.

Its Uncharted on a handheld. Just think of it as that and you wont be disappointed. And I wouldnt use any of the touch controls if you can help it. At first at thought ...nice...then it became frustrating when it didnt work as planned. One climbing section was especially irritating.

Personally, I didn't like it. Better off getting games that were meant for vita.

Gravity rush is one of my favourites, tearaway and sly cooper thieves in time are perfect too.

the controls start out "unbearable" but progress to "constantly annoying" after a short while.

game was kind of a borefest otherwise, but I hardly give it a fair shake given how much I dislike spectacle games.

Compared to other Uncharted games it has a decent story, worse gameplay, worse graphics... but I still had fun with it overall since I got it for free as part of PS+.

I thought it was pretty awful, 4.0/10...and that's playing it on launch where I probably gave it a lot of leeway due to the novelty of the Vita and the visuals.

Hardest mode isn't that bad. The problem is the sticks deadzone/acceleration throwing aiming off.
Aiming and stuff is just fine. The game controls well and gyro aiming is darn great. The game is not hard in that regard. Its hard in the regard of the final scenes, which are several minutes long QTE sequences with very little checkpoints and if you fail once, you are dead, coupled with terrible touch detection which means you will almost always fail the QTEs.

If you like Uncharted, it's worth it to play this game. I played it over a family vacation and really enjoyed it. Using the touchscreen to wipe dirt of artifacts was strangely satisfying.

As some other posters have mentioned, it's more similar to the first Uncharted than 2 and 3 but that's fine.

I hate this so much. Not just with UC:GA, but also with other examples on other consoles, like the motion-controlled valves in Killzone on the PS3, or countless similar examples on the Wii and Wii U.

Yup, they're complete trash in terms of mechanics. Turning valves in Killzone by spinning the sixaxis or moving platforms by blowing on the gamepad in 3D World is just idiocy and adds nothing to the game. Golden Abyss is a game made almost entirely of these pointless gimmicks, or at least feels that way at certain points.

It's the weakest in the series, like U1 with bullet spongy enemies but less compelling plot wise. Plus it's a launch title, which means Vita gimmicks in every aspect.

But beyond all that? It is still an enjoyable game. It's Uncharted, but portable! It's a stand alone game with no links to the rest of the trilogy besides Drake and Sully, so you could easily miss is. Great looking, too.

i enjoyed it.

not sure how it's aged, but it really impressed me a few years ago that I could get that experience on a mobile device.....and then killzone happened

gotta look past the gimmicky forced feature selling parts of the game.

it does have gryo aiming which, while weird at first, you'll never want to play without it by the end.

I'm liking it for what it is. Just recently returned to finish playing it. Motion controls made me move on from it for a while though.

I liked it.... don't play it on the hardest mode as the touch controls during cinematics are inaccurate and frustrating on the hardest mode. It was good as a portable uncharted though. Just don't expect anything new.
My sentiments exactly.

Decent story, great graphics and set-pieces, uninspired but solid shooting and plattforming. If you like the PS3-games, you will definitely like it as it is very similar, so I say go for it!

I liked it more than the first, but not as much as the 2nd or 3rd.

It's alright, certainly better than its reputation. Liked it better than 1, but not nearly as much as 2 or 3.

I actually quite enjoyed its touch QTE boss fights, they were tense and involving in a way most easy-ass mindless QTEs never come even close to. The only problem being one climatic gesture at the very end on Crushing that just refuses to ever fucking register correctly.

I really liked it. Better than drakes fortune but not as good as 2 and 3. Really good looking graphics for a handheld. Still one of Vita's best games imo.

Nobody has mentioned the graphics. They're amazing.

Gotta be the first time a launch game has also been one of the most graphically impressive games on a system.

Solid. Worth a play through if your a fan in the series and can get it cheap. Like the other games encounter design can be frustrating on higher difficulties so play it on normal.

Being a launch game it goes overboard with Vita gimmicks, some like the swipe a path climbing are pretty neat, swipe QTEs are not.

Also this one really annoying part where you gotta hold the camera up to a light source, it never worked right for me and would take 10+ minutes each time. I tried torches, room light, the friggin sun...useless.

As to everything else, felt like UC1 a lot.

It's like 90% of this generation's handheld launch titles. Or in other words, no it's not, but damn it if people didn't convince themselves it was early on to justify the purchase

Worst in the series imo, terribly boring locations and it just felt off in just about every way. Not a bad game by any means, but nothing really worth playing if you're not an Uncharted fan.

The gimmick it wasn't that bad and it's a stunning exhibition piece for the Vita's power and graphical capabilities. Enjoyable characters and "default" settings, good enough, and it was free for plus users for a long period of time.

I didn't particularly enjoy it as an Uncharted game but I liked the gyro aiming. I found it a lot more smooth than what Killzone does with the gyro

Yes it's very good, I'd recommend it to any Uncharted fan.

The QTE on the hardest mode are instant.... and the touch screen is very inaccurate. I almost threw my vita at one point due to that....

Unless I they changed it (or I recall incorrectly), the end of the game has a long QTE that has little (or no) check points and it is almost all QTE.... meaning you miss one and you die instantly.

Up->Down->Left.

The QTE's don't change per difficulty and the "hardest" mode (Crushing) isn't unlocked until you beat the game once, just like previous Uncharteds.

The deadzone/aiming issue is the major problem. Too much overshooting/undershooting because Sony won't let you customize stick acceleration and why shooters on the system that aren't Super Stardust are DOA.

Its a good game, the production quality is very high. I think the biggest issue I had with the game at the time was I was new to the platform so some of the game mechanics were harder to implement. If I was to replay the game now I'm sure it would feel a lot more natural. Regardless its a game that most VITA owners should play.

I guess many people didn't realize that you can aim with the gyro.

Needing to move my system around to fix their terrible stick acceleration is not a good replacement, sorry to say.
