Is YouTube a slow piece of shit for anyone else?

I have a 50Mb internet and pretty much everything loads up very fast, but YT... goddamn it. I have to put videos at 360p and even then sometimes it won't load. Is there any way to fix this? -.-

Works fine for me, at least on my PC. If I'm looking up something on my phone, it's slow as shit. No idea why, they're using the same internet connection.

Only on my phone or when I'm tethering through my phone, and only sometimes in those cases. I think it's Verizon.

Throttling.

Welp that might be it then. Is there a way to get over this? :/

Only on my iphone via wifi. Actually everything is slower on wifi on my iphone which makes no sense to me.
I have 50/50 mbps before anyone asks.

Recently for me, it gets slow when I try to skip ahead in the video. If I just watch the whole thing, it's usually fine.

It's really annoying, though.

The antennae is smaller on phones but sites and isp's usually also throttle in phones.

I hope I didn't go against the GAF tos.

YT's been spotty for me lately. Sometimes skipping to a later time in a video causes a long pause, and either the resolution goes down or the audio disappears. Reloading works, but it's a minor hassle.

What's hilarious is that the ads come in with perfect quality and no load time. It's like god damn Youtube, give me some of that shit for your regular videos!

Lately on PC, a 40 minute video will play for about 15-20 and then stop loading and go to a black screen, requiring a wait of a few minutes and a page refresh to resume play. Forget about skipping around on the video! (Xfinity here too! Woo!)

It's your ISP throttling it.

I have a 50 MB connection at work and anything over 360p runs like garbage. I have a 25 MB connection at home and 1080p runs super-smooth.

There's some thing on YouTube you can access to tell you if your ISP is throttling you. Has ratings for the different ISPs, too.

Same thing happened to Netflix, and they're the two most notable examples of why we need Net Neutrality.

It's a lot better now than it was a year ago, when it couldn't even do 240p without buffering. Still, it's kinda of odd how much faster YT is on my tablet's YT app than on my PC.

No issues here. Not to highjack the thread, but I have my own interesting problem with youtube.

There is a video that I can access on a PC, but when I try on my phone it's not there. It doesn't show up in the search either. When I emailed it to myself and tried on my phone it shows up as "video not available". wtf?

$30 a year VPN and I will never go back to using YT or Netflix without it. No buffering ever. Fuck greedy shithead ISPs.

Some youtubers don't let people view on mobile - no ad revenue. I think they hanged that, but could be a legacy thing.

I suspect Verizon FIOS has been throttling it for the better part of a month now. Some days I can't play anything at full screen without substantial stuttering, despite YouTube's assurances that my ISP is 'optimized' for HD playback.

At home, no. At work, yes. Pretty sure my work throttles YouTube, which sucks because it's something that I have to use *for work*

What's th VPN you use?

I've noticed that scrubbing on the mobile app does in fact cause a long pause and a resolution downgrade. The shittiest part is YouTube doesn't give its mobile app the support it deserves. You'll probably get an app update for it every 2 or 3 months if you're lucky.

Not really the same problem as the OP, but Chrome (not beta) has been dropping frames like crazy for me lately. This is on a 6 core 4Ghz AMD CPU and a new R9 GPU. Doesn't matter if hardware acceleration is off, or the various other settings in the chrome://flags page. Firefox and IE are smooth as butter, but they don't support 60fps, so oh well.

Youtube sometimes redirects me to another video 10 seconds after I start watching a video, which is weird and really annoying.

But yeah, I'm pretty sure my ISP throttles when I'm not at school.

Youtube (along with other Google services) will randomly cut out for me at times, with Chrome telling me that they're not available after a time of never-ending "connecting". A few friends in the area have the same issue, so it's not just me. Wonder if it's a form of throttling, or the DNS servers acting up?

I have 100/40 and often videos will fail to run at 720p/1080p/1440p and just drop down to 360p.

It's not all the time, but enough to be annoying.

Goddamn, it actually worked!! I tried that Private Internet Access site (got a monthly sub) and the video loaded completely with no problem. Fucking piece of shit ISP!

Argh, sorry. I forgot to edit the other post and ended up making a new one.

How difficult was it to setup?

Thinking of trying it as well.
