Is Zelda OOT 3D discontinued?!

Wishing you luck. I would also check the NeoGAF sell/trade forum just in case anyone is selling one.

A shame to see this game getting rare. Sadly many New 3DS owners are going to be forced to buy digital for a number of games because Nintendo can't be bothered to reprint popular games.

Well maybe it's just a different mentality, but I hate the concept of physical games for any handheld. The 3DS is such a dud for me in that aspect because I never owned a DS and refuse to track down games for it.

Oddly enough, the system with the most standardized memory is the one nobody want's digital content on lol.

I don't see a problem with taking a 3.5 year old game out of print and continuing to offer it digitally, or just significantly reducing the amount printed. People can still get the game digitally for the original price, and not pay the scalpers/re-seller's prices. There are options.

The last three generations Nintendo continued to produce games that consumers had a demand for. Why did selling games that people want make sense before and not now? Not producing old games is definitely a new trend for Nintendo this generation.

a large collection of Nintendo Selects Wii games is available at a suggested retail price of only $19.99 each. These games include modern classics like Super Mario Galaxy, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Super Paper Mario. In addition, three newly discounted Wii games - Super Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Wii Sports Resort - are also available at a suggested retail price of $29.99 each.

You can still get it here in the UK on amazon for £36 & GAME have it available for download, not sure if you can get it on the eShop, i will have to check, i think it's the best version myself.

It's a Nintendo first party title; I doubt it will ever not be on the eShop (until the 3DS eShop is deprecated).

I am saying that market is setting that price and Nintendo is loosing out on sales by trickling out copies of OoT instead of meeting demand. Nintendo has a history of continuing to produce high selling games because Nintendo has a history of their games having a really long tail. Usually the limited run games are 3rd party or niche.

This is pretty inaccurate as far as recent years goes, and to an extent, in general. Nintendo has always shipped lower amounts of software than the average company, hence why you can't buy most Nintendo games from previous generations on the cheap like you can most other publishers.

Like all of this is from a nearly five years ago. Not to mention, there's only six games actually talked about here.

EDIT: Or excuse me, I miscounted, that's eight. Still, though, not exactly a huge amount of titles by any means.

This is great news for me. I have the physical copy but plan on buying it and Majoras Mask digitally. I was afraid I'd lose money selling it, but it looks like I will make a profit.

You keep saying that Nintendo has always done this, but it is new to the WiiU/3DS generation. They don't list the complete lineup of "Nintendo Selects" in the Nintendo link above (as it was basically a press release for the Wii Mini). I looked it up and there were 11 which is way less than previous generations, but Europe got almost double that number. In the N64, GC, and Wii generations they had official names for these reissue lines, but they also did this during the NES and SNES days too, but without the official name. Nintendo definitely has a history of selling their old games. I am fairly new to 3DS and don't own a Wii U so all of this is quite a change for me. I guess my history with Nintendo extends more than five years. There was a thread about Pikmin 3 being hard to find so I believe you that this is Nintendo's new style, but it is definitely a change.

I guess with eshop I can still get the games until the platform is killed, but I don't like Nintendo's licensing system and I don't really don't like to pay full price for digital. Digital is definitely more profitable for Nintendo since there is no manufacture, no shipping, and no overstock. I wish they would lower the price, but I wonder if a lower priced OoT is too much competition for Majora's Mask.

I bought a lifetime supply of eshop cards for 25% off at Target Canada. There simply has to have been an equal or better deal in the USA.

The eshop cards were on sale for 25% off? I will have to keep an eye out for this sort of deal.

I haven't seen such a deal here. Only 10% off sometimes.

Regardless, I can still generally get physical even cheaper than that, and I maintain my full ownership rights (resell, trade, loan/share etc.), get the nice packaging and art and extras with SE's etc., and avoid any concerns surrounding digital purchases with Nintendo. So honestly even for 25% off digital on the eshop would be a very hard sell for me and many others. Digital would have to be at least 50% off for me to consider it, and even then I probably wouldn't bite if I could get physical instead.

Knew this was going to happen so I got myself a copy for $20 at Best Buy during the B1G50% glitch a few months back even though my wife has one. I'm going to play MM first but I'll definitely tear into it this summer.

It's really not. The only thing that's changed is that they've seemingly dropped the Player's Choice/Nintendo Selects line. Even if you go looking for those, you'll find the prices are still relatively high, for instance, showing even those were lower print runs:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=Nintendo+Selects

Nintendo has always shipped on the low side, at least within recent memory. When you compare this to other publishers anyhow. I mean, it's like everyone seems shocked at this, but it's been a pretty common thing. I admit, the lack of Player's Choice thing has made the problem worse potentially, but it's always been something you've had to deal with in regards to Nintendo titles.

I was wondering the same thing. I had been foolishly waiting for it to drop in price, but I went to look for it last week and I just couldn't find it anywhere.

I'm pretty worried I won't be able to get it for at least regular price.

If Nintendo reprints a fucking Fire Emblem game, then this needs to be reprinted.

Especially since this one actually crossed a million sales >.>

I picked it up about 3 weeks ago as soon as I noticed the Amazon price skyrocketing. The only place in my area that still had it was Best Buy, and even then I got their very last copy.

Best Buy has been clearing out their copies on their Ebay account. Still sells for full MSRP, but their website no longer had it for sale.

Nintendo is just so weird lately, I wouldn't count in it. :-/

I am just very happy I bought OOT a few weeks ago. Was the last copy at my local Best Buy, and I got 20% off thanks to GCU. At this point I am no longer holding back on Nintendo games that I think I may want to play someday. If you prefer physical copies, just buy the game ASAP.

I can't believe Nintendo doesn't see an opportunity to reprint some more copies after the renewed interest from the Majora's Mask release.

If they gave a damn about their fans... I suspect they're actually happy with a scarcity of OOT 3D carts so people are forced to buy digital where they make a lot more money for it.

Yep. They often under-produce their games so stores have limited stock and people will have to buy it on the eShop.

I have a feeling it is more to do with extremely limited shelf space afforded to Nintendo these days. I would also theorize that was one of the motivations behind removing the n3DS from the US launch.

They may generate a higher revenue percentage per digital copy, but giving fans more options will always net Nintendo more money.

Most likely, that and the shelf space they've dedicated for amiibos doesn't help either.

Thanks for the thread by the way! I didn't think that OoT would become scarce, so I nabbed a copy. It's sold out online now, so I'm glad I ordered.

The 3DS not only is the system with the most units sold of the current generation but also has the most appeal to kids and as such parents.

The 3DS should own shelfspace

Keep hitting amazon up, popped up for me on the 14th from amazon with prime for $39.99 but said would not be instock till end of month. 16th got notification it shipped and will be here Monday. Fuck the over priced copies.

I remember Nintendo saying in some press release before the game came out that they were deliberately limiting the print runs on OoT3D.

I've been waiting to get this ever since I got my 3DS, but didn't feel like dropping €40 on it. Still waiting, never saw a good deal for it. I keep hoping Nintendo will drop the price on the e-shop. Maybe when MM is out? Kid Icarus is even cheaper than OoT I think.

Trust me, guys. This happens with OOT every few months. It has done for a long time. Wait it out a few weeks and it will pop up again.

Nintendo do a small run, then wait until there is demand again before printing more. There is no way they will just stop while there is still demand.

It's currently listed as "Out of Stock" on the official Nintendo Shop. When they stop printing copies they take the whole game off the store (Like Star Fox 64 3D).

The fans had well over 3 years to buy OoT 3D through the usual retail chains. Nintendo is not morally obligated to keep every single desirable game readily available on retail shelves (which they have no control over in the first place, it's not like they can force bestbuy or GameStop to buy more copies from them)...especially not if we are talking about...by videogame standards...very long timeperiods.
I've reached the point where I won't pay full price or would buy the game 2nd hand at full price out of spite.

Thats just silly.... OoT 3D has been in the sub 30 € range countless times on Amazon.de....like pretty much every 3DS game thats not Pokemon or SSB. You will never see a sub 20 bucks firesale on a firstparty game. Thats just not going to happen.

I was speaking of bravely default, I picked up OoT a while ago.

It's bravely default I never see at a reduced price. I don't check Amazon.de on a daily basis but also not infrequently

I doubt. Nintendo still prints and sells Mario64 DS, eleven years after first release. And at full price, of course.

Right, but this is just one game out of dozens. Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks are out of print. Eliminating OOT as a purchase option for 3DS means Majora's Mask is laser focused in terms of marketing dollars.

Glad I was able to grab a copy back in 11 when the game released. Should have done the same for starfox as that's going the same route as OOT price-wise( dammit). Grabbing majoras mask as soon as it comes out is a no-brainer....

What I wouldn't give for a patch that utilized the analogue on the 3DS.

Also, have been having trouble finding Luigi U on disc. That might be the next one to become scarce.
