It was only a matter of Time, Drum Hero LOL

Goddamnit, big retail chains already heave entire corners dedicated to this stuff. Can't wait till it's a whole goddamn department.

Why not just buy a keyboard and play the song using sheet music? :lol

Same with Drum Hero, why bother? Buy Drums.

We got in a SHITLOAD of copies of Tony Hawk Ride today at Best Buy. They're sitting in the back for next week, but we're dreading putting them out. There is no room and it's going to collect dust.

Just like DJ Hero is. Just like Band Hero is. NO ONE IS BUYING THEM.

Fucking $120 for DJ Hero and Tony Hawk Ride. Activision is littering stores across the country with this overpriced accessory bundle pack bullshit and I can't WAIT for it to bite them in the ass.

This post is less intelligent than Activision's whoring.

Activision really is taking the "fun" out of gaming. I cant even remember the last time I bought a Activision game. Tony Hawk 2? Mark my words, within the next few years they will be stuck in a rut when nobody care to buy their crap anymore. You can only release a CoD game for sooooo many years in a row before people get sick of it. What are they on now? CoD 6 or 7?

A look at the actual trademark registration.

Toys, hand-held games with liquid crystal displays, musical toys; action figures and accessories therefor; arcade games; coin-operated video games; electric action toys; handheld unit for playing electronic video games; electronic toy drums

If this ever happens it will beÂ…

Not what we refer to as retail video game. According to a few articles, there was a console Drum Hero being worked on at Z-Axis/Underground Development but it was canned and the prototypes were used for the Guitar Hero band set.

Not really.

Guitar I can understand, even DJ I can understand (I own both too).

But keyboards and drums, the fake activity is EXACTLY the same as the real one. It's not simplified for casuals like the Guitar and Turntable in the other games. So THOSE instruments are being brought to the masses to get a feel for those music methods.

With drums and keyboard the fake instruments are nigh IDENTICAL to the real thing in application and performance. So whether you drum on the fake ones and fuck up, or drum for REAL and fuck up playing to a song, there's no difference. So why not buy the real thing?

Same with the Keyboard, whether you're playing the toy, or playing a real one, you're still playing according to viewing the screen/reading the sheet. So why not do the real thing?

I have no issue with music games, but it only works when what is being mimicked isn't FAR more fun and no more difficult than faking it.

Learning to play guitar is FAR more difficult than what we do in Guitar Hero, and even DJing is far more difficult than the game represents. So it's understandable it's fun to have that simplified and give us the feeling of playing them 'well'.

With drums and keyboard, it's the same. I'd rather buy REAL drums and have more fun. I don't see how that's difficult to grasp.

You're so wrong.

... in other gaming news, Activision, following the release of Drum Hero - their new music rhythm game - is citing sales significantly less than expected. Early reports from leading retailers such as Gamestop and Wal-Mart all have the $200 game, that includes a set of game drums, moving less than was forecast. When asked for comment on the abysmal sales, CEO, Bobby Kotick quipped, "We thought DJ Hero's meager popularity was because of the economy. Turns out that teet has been sucked dry."

You know, its not like it would sell but I would like a game featuring classical music. With the multiplayer option being for a string quartet or something.

Somehow I don't think the videogame crowd would be into it though.

There are still people spouting this nonsense? Haven´t we moved past this crap yet?

I like how this post comes down to "I would rather do X... So should you guys."

Apparently, there will be a new difficulty level in Rock Band 3 that will be similar to that.
Playing it will directly translate to playing an actual guitar. I'll believe it when I see it. That's going to be one fucking expensive controller.
I kinda expected them to get there eventually, but I thought they'd use an actual guitar and a mic... like the vox part of the game, but with a guitar. You can already use the training mode on guitar for guitar karaoke.

The drum part is already pretty close if you use the Ion w/ extra cymbal and set it up right, but the shortcomings are...
1)No hi-hat pedal for open and closed hi-hat. Open hi-hat is mapped to ride cymbal instead.
2)The gems don't tell you how hard to hit, and you're not rated for it.
3)The gems don't tell you what part of the cymbal, snare, tom, etc. to hit, and don't score it.
4)In double bass sections, only every other kick is charted.
5)On songs with 16ths on hi-hat, they switch between colors for hi-hat and snare. Basically, those songs don't work with a full set-up.

I've known a few people who bought actual drum kits before Rock Band came along, and none of them actually learned anything. They just beat on them. One of them could do one basic rock beat and thought he was a drummer, but anyone who can play Rock Band on medium can do the same and a lot more. This guy is about a million times better than them (but still not very good) two months after buying Rock Band.

I've seen much more impressive videos of people who are actually great at Rock Band trying a real kit, but I can't find them again.

WTF is this shit, son?

He's right about keyboard. When Konami's keyboardmania series hit the arcade, there were actually people who converted the songs into music sheets so they can practice at home and play the game without looking at the screen. Pathetic I know.

because i don't want to sit there going plonky plonky with one finger, I want to feel like a rock star. Isn't that exactly the same as with guitar hero?

Although i'm not sure how keyboard hero would work. I can't see two octaves working with a guitar hero falling notes mechanic.

I think I'd be happy with a modern take on beatmania but with the kind of song lists available in GH/RB

As someone who works in retail, maybe you can answer this question.
Why are retailers letting Activision clutter their stores with plastic instruments? I would think retail space is a premium--especially during the holiday season--and it would be silly to devote so much of that space to a product that isn't selling or at least isn't selling as fast as it could.

This is where the tide will turn, I think. Nobody is gonna buy this shit.

Call of Duty Hero.

You get a plastic controller that simulates a game controller and you play a videogame virtually on the screen.

This is brilliant.

Are you listening, Activision?

Z-Axis was working on a game called Drum Hero for Activision (2007). Because of Rock Band it was cancelled and drums were added to Guitar Hero.

Not saying I'm great at it, but I have great fun with it! :)

The funny thing is, I wished for this when the first GH game came out since I used to play drums in a couple of bands.

Now that I have a full band of instruments, I end up using the guitar far more often, probably because I can't play one that well in real life. On drums I just get mad that it doesn't feel like my real kit :D

I'm still waiting for them to announce Groupie Hero. Now that will be a rhythm action game! They'll have to pack the controllers in a plain brown wrapper though... :lol

They have so completely destroyed this genre. I can't believe all of the games the pumped into the market this fall. It's stupid, confusing to the end consumer, and is like watching a ritual suicide.
