Itagaki leaves Tecmo, sues Tecmo president

Speevy said:
So Tecmo can still make ng games?

Also, I'm sure he's going to pull a mistwalker.
Ninja Gaiden is Tecmo's license and always has been. Itagaki just used it because he was there and wanted to make a Ninja game. I believe he said "If I was at Sega, it would've been Shinobi". Which is a fucking AWESOME idea, get to Sega NOW Itagaki.

Are you new to the business world? This reads like a forced resignation (read: a firing). People generally don't leave their place of employment, and then sue, unless they were forced to. Given his place in the company, he had to have been forced out. Companies generally give you the option of resigning before they fire you. It's easier to move to another job when you resign than it is if you were fired. PEACE.

So...Tecmo forced him to resign then sue them? That's an odd thing for them to do. PEACE.

Wow. I kinda thought something along the lines of this was going to happen, still surprising.

I'm wondering what it means for the future of the DoA series and NG series, also if this is the end for these games being Xbox exclusive.

he didn't get paid, he quit and sued. why do you think he quit and sued? he didn't get a 1.42 million bonus promised to him. would you stay? I can't believe you really think he got fired.... seriously, this is the backbone of tecmo. if you didn't get paid from your job WTF would you do?

I think itxaka was banned because of the new "don't complain about the thread rule".

That has to be it, because any true gamer knows Kojima is overrated.

Maybe if Itagaki is no longer at the helm of DOA, it might actually turn into a competent fighter that can be taken seriously by the fighting game fans.

Nah.

Sorry to keep doing that but your avatar really does work for most of your posts.
:D

The only real loss here is Ninja Gaiden and I'm not really the biggest fan of that. It'll be interesting to see where he lands.

It would be awesome if he joined Konami.

Why do people keep suggesting this? What would he do there? Their output has ground to a halt trying to complete MGS4. What happens if Kojima does, in fact, make a MGS5? It seems that Konami doesn't have the resources available to handle two large-scale projects at once. At least that's what it feels like.

Capcom would be a wiser choice given how awesome it's doing this gen; it should have some cash sitting around to give him funding for a project.

EDIT: Microsoft would be a good choice also, as others have mentioned.

I think this is debatable. If they thought he was worth it they would of paid him. Since they didn't pay him, it tells you what they think about him.

Who said anything about 2 projects? Metal Gear Raiden as a ninja game directed by Itagaki.

No, if they didn't think he was worth it, they would not have promised a completion bonus. Promising to pay a fixed bonus means they felt it was worth the price to get him to work on the project. Not paying just means they're dipshits. You don't ask a guy you feel isn't worth it to make something for you in exchange for a certain price.

Hence the mutli million Yen court case that will bite Tecmo in the ass and possibly shut them down forever?

hmm

this was bonus money that he should have gotten, this is not a raise. this is money that should have been paid to him. he should have this money sitting in his bank. this is like you not getting paid for the last 6 months because the owner doesn't feel like you deserve it. he did the work, he should have gotten paid for it. He will win this easy.

Except Itagaki doesn't know ninjas at all since his games doesn't represent the ninja way.

So why relate him to ninjas?

Are you implying that real ninjas don't decimate colusseums full of werewolves? ...because that's just absurd.

...and they didn't give him his bonus. Essentially a big FU, if you don't like it LEAVE... and he left. More of an implicit firing imo.

Who cares!!! He's going to probably form his own gaming company now which is going to kick anything original Temco IP can chew up and spit out. I think this is great news for the industry as he can work on whatever projects he wants to.

I give up. lets see if you feel the same way in 10 years when a company is making major money fromyou work and you get scraps.

Resign or be fired. That's the decision. The lawsuit would be related to any payroll or ethics issues that arose from the need to resign.

Neither you nor I knows the details/wording of that contract. If he wasn't getting paid, there are ways to file grievances against your employer without quitting the company. I've had to request backpay before, and didn't turn in my pink slip and sue. Again, people generally don't leave a job unless they have to, or unless they have a better offer elsewhere. Everything about this case suggests he was forced out, and his lawsuit appears to be some sort of retaliation. Or maybe this is the exception to the rule. PEACE.

The bonus was owed when DoA4 shipped. That was years ago. If they wanted to fire him, NG2 wouldn't even be greenlighted. They clearly just wanted to dick out of paying him the promised completion bonus and figured he didn't have the balls to leave. They were still paying him his salary so they were probably hoping he would just forget about it. That's bad business, you don't promise something and not deliver, especially when it comes to money.

I think we all saw this coming. Who's going to bitch about Itagaki now, assholes? I had faith when so many of you didn't. He made Ninja Gaiden, he can do no wrong.

I can't say I'm totally surprised after what Itakagi said during the interviews in LA 2 weeks ago. Now what will be interesting is to see how many, if any of course, of the Team Ninja people will follow him.

Hayashi will be the first to stand up and say he will join him.

Now, what will Itagaki make? These are the likely options:

Itagaki + Platinum Games = New IP
Itagaki + Platinum Games/Sega = Shinobi 2
Itagaki + Kojima = Zone of the Enders 3
Itagaki + Capcom = DMC5
Itagaki + Capcom = New IP
Itagaki + Capcom = Street Fighter EXtreme
Itagaki + Microsoft = New IP
Itagaki + Miyamoto = Pikmin 3
Itagaki + Ex-Team Ninja = New IP

Itagaki will not join Namco.

its a shame, but he will continue to make awesome games and he will undoubtedly need to start his own studio, with a few loyal employees. he will probably recruit with the opener "If you can't keep up, don't step up"

:D :D :D

I trust you if you have this on insider info, duckroll. But is it a personal source, or are you going on Itagaki's clearly bitter press statement? PEACE.

I'll bet you one dollar it will be a combination of these two. It makes too much sense. Everything else is just a pipedream of people wanting the best developer ever to work with whoever they feel is 2nd best.

That would cause a space-time-paradox, what with the mods complaining and having to mod eachother... the universe might implode

More on topic - A bungie team up would be interesting... but more of a lateral move*

*in the realm of modelers, that is...or maybe a step backwards?

These sound likely, yes.

Quick, someone search through old Itagaki interviews so we know which colleagues at other studios he was friends with. :p

Yeah and you can be sure they're going to hop on the port train with it.

:lol

If you mean by port of NG2, uh no. Full funded MGS game not going to happen any time soon.

Seems kinda exciting for me, I want to see him do something different than DOA and NG, this is his chance.
Microsoft would be stupid not to scoop him up and create a Japan studio around him.

MS should scoop him up.

Forgot one. ;) :D

I'd like to see Itagaki with Capcom. They've been working on some awesome sauce for a while now even without the guy. Lost Planet and Dead Rising are great new I.Ps, and Bionic Commando looks good.

And there's a series waiting for next gen revival that would be perfect for Itagaki.

Onimusha bitches!!!

Also, he'd then have access to what is undoubtedly the best engine ever made. Less "585p lol" and more "Holy shit, did you see that?"

Fuck, Konami should hire him and make an AWESOME Castlevania 3D game!

Ho lee sheet!

It will be interest to see what he comes up with if he is forced to come up with a new IP. I don’t think having him take on an existing series is a good idea.

itagaki and yu suzuki making shenmue 3 would be kick-ass.

Since Itagaki has yet to make a game with a coherent storyline, I would say hell no. Yu has the fighting gameplay covered. Kojima would be a much better fit.

IMO he's going to A) Be scooped up by Microsoft. B) Make his own independent studio which will likely have close ties with Microsoft considering his profound love for the 360 :P C) Take a break then do one of the before mentioned scenarios.

Is it just me or does Microsoft have the worst luck in the business?

- Bungie wants to sever ties with Microsoft Game Studios and become independent
- Bizarre is purchased by Activision
- Bioware is purchased by EA
- Silicon Knights sues Epic
- Itagaki leaves Team Ninja

All within a year :lol
