Itagaki sued for sexual harassment

I feel pretty bad for the girl. Honestly I don't even think it's funny. Itagaki's a loser, and this poor girl was obviously pretty messed up (assuming the reports are true).

I can understand you guys laughing, but at the same time, live a little and see what the world is really like already, I assure you, you wouldn't laugh at such stories, no matter who they're about.

Anyway, carry on.

I have to agree with you, assuming these reports are true.

Sexual harassment is not fun, especially if your job is affected by it. I was hit on by my boss and I didn't think nothing of it. It was definitely inappropriate but a couple of idiots added fuel to the fire by claiming I said hurtful things about her. Not true. Instead of moving on, she cut my hours down to almost nothing and gave me the worst jobs possible. The store director didn't do a thing to change it either. If it wasn't for the fact that I was leaving for college a couple months later, I would have quit.

She would also start complimenting me from afar quite often and I found myself being disturbed by her comments. She was cute but her looks had nothing to do with it. She would often talk to her girl friends about what she would do to me if we were alone together. It sucked, big time.

I get sexually harrassed typically by girls at my job. None ever did as much damage to my job as the one above. It sucks but I pretty much put up with it and put it out of my mind.

Ugh...if the allegations are true the guy is a major asshole. The "pimp", "respect+" comments are ridiculous.

But...there's the whole innocent until proven guilty thing. So I won't be rushing to condemn the guy before the trial just because he's made some pervy games.

I think some of us werel laughing AT HIM (itagaki) not at the situation. Some of us feel sorry for the girl, we're just laughing that this perv finally got busted

No, people are just laughing because it's the idea of a self-fulfilling prophecy. (OMG a guy who makes perverted games gets impaled upon his own sword!)

But the people who are quick to defend the girl aren't exactly right either. How do you know she's right? It's not your issue. So just everyone sit back and laugh until the trial/settlement. :lol

Isn't this a similar case to J-Allard? What was the story behind Allard seducing one of the MS employees and got demoted from his position?

Any word on upcoming Itagaki interviews? He usually does a couple after the release of his latest game. I typically find Itagaki interviews pretty entertaining/interesting, but I can see an upcoming one being EPIC. Will interviewers be forced to not mention it? Will they ask about it anyway?

I was going to do you all a favour and close this thread and then ban all the ****wads who think sexual harrassment is a laughing matter -- especially in Japan where a woman's rights end as soon as she enters the door to work.

Instead I'm going to leave the thread open and ban all of the existing ****wads, and catch the ones that haven't posted yet.

The most infamous quote Itagaki ever made was in a preview of Edge, before the release of DOA3 in 2001.

He said;

"I know some people talk negatively about the sex appeal. But hey, nobody is perfect"

:lol

Chances are Tecmo will try and go into damage control after today, they will settle out of court and we will never know anymore than we already know.

The way I see this things know are that Tecmo told the girl to **** her self after she went for help as just their way of protecting the company (putting the company over the individual), not so much about it being a lack of womans rights.

Also Dragona can you explain womans rights (or the lack there of) in Japan in more detail?

don't see any bannages yet, and when you've got quotes like this, I don't see why you haven't cleaned house yet:

And this girl is SO going to lose this case.

Why? Its your standard girl at the office; just waiting for the PERFECT opportunity to screw over ANYONE in the company, and HURT the company in the process.

you hear that kids, the average female work colleague spends all her time plotting to hit you with a frivolous sexual harrassment suit so she can retire early. it's "standard" amongst women apparently.

I am really surprised by this news. Still a little bit confused about it, but i will stick with the Innocent until proven guilty side. If he is in fact guilty, then he should be punished since those are big accusations, even using his power in the company to keep the girl silent. I really feel sorry for Itagaki´s daughter since she seems to admire and like his father and now will have to deal with this.

If this news are true, we can almost guarantee that his career as a game developer would be finished, a very big lose that would be from a gamer point of view. In the social manner, that was an horrible action and if true it should be punished.

BTW, i wasnt aware of the situation of the women rights in japan. I really thought that only in middle east women were threated like inferior beings. To read about women not being given the same rights as men in Japan is real news to me.

First off, nobody here knows what really did happen and in what context, we can only speculate. A lot of the acquisitions of harassment are false and a lot of real harassment cases are never reported. That being said, I personally think there are always two sides to a story, but she’s probably just frustrated by the way she was treated and what is a better way to **** up a company than take down the leader.
I know some girls/ladies who claim to be harassed (no, not by me) and the cases that were proven all had some identical points, that were lacking in the stories of the women that were making false acquisitions. One of the things I’ve noticed is that the cases that have been found proven, the girls are trying to keep it low profile as possible and the cases that have been found false or unproven were all pretty loud about it.
I’m not saying it is like that in this case and that it’s always the same, but some patterns you can notice. And going to court for a quite large amount of money isn’t really low profile in my book.

like I said a few post above. I doubt Tecmo just thought we'll she's a woman she must be lying! It was probably just them protecting the company and one of their most valued assets (Itagaki). See on the other hand, in western society the best way to protect the company would have been to be open about the matter, but the only is this way because big companies have been burned by sexual harassment scandals in the past.

Many years back, the President of Namco, Masaya Nakamura got into trouble for sexual harassment, in San Jose California.

largest video arcade chain in the United States has been sued by an employee in San Jose who says she was forced to have sex with him to keep her job.

Fukiko Davis, 47, said that when she tried to fend off Masaya Nakamura's advances the first time, he held her down and said in Japanese, ``Look closely at the man who is raping you.''

Davis says in her lawsuit that like other female workers for Namco Hometek Inc. she was expected to act as a ``hostess'' when Nakamura visited San Jose and serve him food, straighten up his...

Good grief.
It's a good job you guys don't actually live in Japan. You'd probably die when you find out what actually goes on. Sexual harrassment goes on everywhere, even though us westerners find it to be totally despicable. Japanese women have very little chance of promotion at a regular Japanese company, and they get treated like dirt. I know of other game producers/directors that have been involved with secretaries, but it's basically the norm. I don't condone it, incidentally. I'm just saying what happens.

On a somewhat-related note, my girlfriend works at a Docomo shop. Forget about promotions, because when women working there get married or pregnant, they are forced to leave, and once they turn 30, they must also resign, because the shops only want younger 20-something year-olds working there.

For everyone screaming "he is married and has kids" things are different in Japan...really different. In fact until the late80s/early90s a husband cheating wasn't even reasons for grounds of a divorce in the court of law... this country has a hostess bar (at least one) in every station. blowjob clubs at the bigger ones... and guess what, it is mostly married men who go there... on the flip side, guess who controls all the cash?

If he did force himself on a woman.. then that is plain out wrong.. but leave your western morals out of it..

Sorry, I couldn't find an English translation of the Criminal Codes defailing sexual harassment but maybe I failed at google. Here are the codes that you are probably interseted in:
Criminal Code Articles 176(indecency), 223(extortion), 230(defamation). Of those 3 the only one that Japan takes semi-seriously in the case of office sexual harassment is 223(extortion). Very few cases are won when 176 and 230 are the main points of the case (like here, in Itagaki's case)

This is 100% on point. Women get fondled on the train EVERYDAY on their way to work. Everyday... let me say it one more time... EVERYDAY. It is a shame that they have to put up with being the lesser sex, but also everyone (even them to a degree) takes it in stride.
The thing that gets me is that people just watch and let it happen. On the trains, people do nothing. The taxi driver, did nothing (if said story is true).. everyone does nothing at all.. men and women alike..

Not a surprising scandal obviously. I rate gaf's 'wtg pimp' response a C-.

I am not sure of Japan's cultural view of this, but I am guessing it will be hard for her to win this case or find sympathy.

Itagaki is a sick bastard, does he have sisters or a mother?

...and please, for the love of God, somebody to something to his face...nasty

I never realized how bad it really was there. That's pretty ****ing terrible. And Itagaki is a ****ing loser.
Well I have seen and stopped 4 train fondlings in 3 years..

...Really? How did that go (the stopping them part)?

Because if I was ever witnessing that situation, I'd probably do the same thing.

Well only one did I have to actually do something. grabbed his arm and told him to stop that shit. the other ones I just loomed over them and they took off... at the next stop....

2 of them were drunk bastards and 2 of them were pros...

Itagaki has always seemed like a prick to me and now this confirms it.

Anyway woman are not treated as bad as people seem to think, there are lots of woman in very powerful positions in Japanese companies.
And train gropings are trying to be stopped, but its the people who stand idle and let this happen.
since that nerdy guy saved a woman and it made the news more people take notice of the situation.

people just need to start beating the shit outta gropers

How did the women react? Were they grateful or more embarassed that a scene was made?

That...just blows my mind. I would react the same if someone was hovering over a girl like that making her feel uncomfortable (or worse yet, actually trying to fondle her). I feel bad for the woman of that country that have to be subjected to that on the trains. I would hate to feel unsafe, at least even more so than a woman normally feels while using public transportation.

Are you Japanesse or a foriegner? Just wondering if there reaction would be the same.

6'3" 219 lbs or so..

3 of them were really happy..embarassed me more than them.. the other one didn't know how to react...

It isn't all bad... they aren't as poorly as like in Iraq or something. But having powerful positions doens't mean they are treated fairly. I think one has to look at the social norms to understand. Like for example, if you are over the age of 30, single, and are female you will NEVER be married is common thinking by females and males alike.. most just give up and marry their jobs... have flings or whatever. While for a male 30 - 35 is prime marrying time because of your earning power at that age...

I am a mixed male. Black and white...so that would make me a gaijin

Are you Japanesse or a foriegner? Just wondering if the fondlers reaction would be the same. I mean are these just pervs that will run away as soon as anyone steps in or are they more of the punk types that will tell you to **** off? What do the police do about this?

Edit: You didnt ignore me! :)

From what I know... most of the people who do such actions are not "punks" but are middle aged men...upper 30s.. to old men 70s...

wow this thread has just blown my mind in regards to what I thought I knew about Japan. So if these guys get cought by police, what happens to them is it just a slap on the wrist or are they getting sexual assault charges against them and going to jail?

They won't even get "caught" because the women would never report it, and even if they did who knows if the police would even bother.

jesus what a thread.

Thoughts :

1) as blackace said, please leave your western morals at the door - affairs are so rampant in japan it's not even funny. The attitude to this when you speak to Japanese men and women is absolutely staggering and , to make sure 10000 geek minds don't melt, we'll leave it at that.
What this does open up the _possibility_ for is that this -might- have been consensual - now we see that hotel rooms etc are mentioned but the people in this thread basically know shit (i haven't read the article and i don't see an english translation beyond scant details so people saying stuff are doing so without knowing much)

2) to some : yes, Itagaki isn't very good looking and he makes games for a platform that isn't your favourite ... but please, lets hold off the "oh i knew he'd do this" "oh, it was so obvious" judgements -just yet-.

3) others : flip side to the above , just because he writes games for the x360 etc that you happen to like , that doesn't mean he is innoccent and the woman is some gold-digger. The big thing to note that if she was sexually harassed (which - AGAIN - happens all the fecking time in Japan) then it takes a lot of balls to come forward.

4) ... and on that note, the fact that it happened 3 years ago is totally irrelevant. If she was sexually harassed, then the fact that it was 3 years ago doesn't prove anything.

5) if he did step out of line, i hope he gets whats coming - but man... what is that likely to be in Japan? A slap on the wrist, plus 3 weeks mandatory prostitution visits , a promised that he won't do it again (just to that woman, other women are fine) and a 10 millin yen fine? :/

anyways , the crux :
1) fanboys shut up
2) don't make judgements
3) don't apply western morals to the japanese

I knew Itagaki sooner or later would have been charged for some sexual crime.
C'mon look at him!
Look at his face!

... when does Kutaragi get charged as a kiddy fiddler? i mean, he looks like one and he makes these 'games machines' that 'kids' 'play' with. *sigh*
From what I know... most of the people who do such actions are not "punks" but are middle aged men...upper 30s.. to old men 70s...

that's the crazy thing - the younger japanese now seem to have way more respect for females, but my generation+ haven't a clue. It's literally "that girl on the train has a nice ass - oh you know what? i'll give it a squeeze.... OH, she doesn't like it!? What a ****ing bitch! I'll ****ing show her "SHOUT SHOUT SHOUT SHOUT SHOUT SHOUT KOITSU RARERRARARARARAAAAAAA BAKKA KOITSU SHINJIRARENAI SHOUT SHOUT SHOUT SHOUT"... these young folk, the do not respect ma athorathaaa desu."

Also Dragona your a woman, living in japan(?), are you a foreigner or japanesse, if your the former how are you treated in comparision?

So your saying things are getting better? Sounds like the generational gap in ideas we have/had with racism.

i don't see what "western morals" have to do with the fundamental vileness of forcing your tongue into a woman's mouth and then trying to take her to a hotel while she cries -- assuming the woman's account is honest. i don't care if itagaki is from kazakhstan or the 14th century or mars -- that's vile.

the problem is... if I really wanted to stop someone I couldn't say put him in a choke hold a wait for the police to come... so basically a person has to say "hey let's go and talk to the cops/or station master together ok?" so most slimeballs just run off... however if a gal catches one by the wrist (happens) then the train crowd grows balls (bad choice of words I know) and all become vocal about it... so the slimeball has to face the music which isn't much... but he is shamed and that is (or should I say was 50 years ago) in Japan
