Itagaki's new game is a rendition of Breakout for Android

Wow, Devil's Third downgradeaton confirmed. I'm just waiting for Ueda to turn in TLG in to Sony now. It'll turn out to be his rendition of Pong.

Weird timing - I just received NGΣ+ yesterday, which I then played for many more hours than initially planned. It´s stunning how good this game feels, and it would be perfect for the people who complain that they "can´t enjoy games after Dark Souls anymore".

And man, I don´t think there has ever been a classic arcade game style that bored me more than Breakout. The "best" games in that genre just shower you with powerups like lasers or that hot-knife-through-butter one in an attempt to finally clear the screen of those dumb last piece and get it over with.

Why get mad over social and mobile gaming, they said.
It won't affect you or your hobby in the slightest, they said.
You're just a paranoid neckbeard, they said.

Looking forward to:
Sid Meier's take on Flappy Bird.
Michel Ancel's take on Candy Crush Saga.
Kamiya's version of Cow Clicker.
Miyamoto's version of Fruit Ninja.

This is the future the majority chose. It's too late.

I feel like the OP missed a trick by revealing the game in the subject. Should have gone with "ITAGAKI'S NEW GAME HAS HAD A STEALTH RELEASE, OUT NOW!!".

Not really. It's more like getting a famous chef to "design" a burger which will be sold at some cheap mass market franchise joint.
Fair enough, still sad. Also, "participated in planning" seems like he's lending his name to the game more than anything.

Yuji Naka delivered with Power of Coin, so I reckon I'll give this a go before writing it off in an impotent wail. Assuming it hits iOS, of course.

Having played two levels, I can safely say it is your average brick breaker clone. Aside from keeping the developer's HR department employed, Itagaka's main contribution, as near as I can tell, was to snort lines of coke and then decide that adding a power up that lets you tap the blocks was a huge gamechanger.

Well... the problem with Breakout games was always that last one block that your ball keeps missing..... GAMECHANGER!

Being a fan of Japanese games is almost the same as getting you femurs chew on by bears. At least thats how I feel after so many of these kinds of threads.

Ah, Dave, you're back.

Same here, for free and iOS with the Itadaki name behind it - you'd have to try it out.

Actually, it doesn't solve the problem really because the powerup is timed and you still have no control over when you get it or can use it. Other clones have solved that problem more elegantly. Anodia, for example, has the best solution I've seen-- it gives you a timed black hole that recharges.

I expect Itagaki to eventually become an in - house dev for Microsoft. He's always been very big on them. Plus I feel like he'd rather die than release games on a sony platform going by some of the things he said in the past, and his unwillingness to develop for ps3.
