It's 2015. Why Can't I make a decent black character in bloodborne?

Here's my character:

Woa you're a wizard! How long did that take?

Woa you're a wizard! How long did that take?

Around 20 minutes with heavy use of the "Similar Face" function and not a lot of fiddling with sliders.

I basically set a few high level parameters (face preset, then skin color, then eye color/pupil size, then hair color/style) and used the Similar Face function for the rest.
Find a similar face that looks good, accept, and then use that face as the seed for the next 'generation' of faces.
If nothing looks good then press circle and and go back in.
After more than a handful of 'generations' I found something that I liked and then did some minor slider tweaks.

There is a severe lack of decent hair options, btw.

Whenever someone says "it's 2015, how come we don't have X yet?" I feel like suggesting we change the year to 1015 if it'll make them feel better.

character creation can be pretty whack for most games with the feature, depending on how precise you want to be. i don't think its particularly a race thing

How is this conversation still happening when it's been proven here that you can in fact make a black character? There's at least one picture in this thread that it seems everyone agrees represents what "black people actually look like". I don't know what this thread is still about since the question has been answered with a "it's just you".

Edit: Before someone quotes the "black people actually look like" portion, I agree that yes, it's kind of ridiculous how narrow some of the people in this thread's view of what features constitutes a person of color is.

I don't think this problem is exclusive to a black character. It's pretty difficult to make a good looking charachter of any race without a lot of trial and error

"at least one..." do you realize how crazy that sounds?

OP is right on the money.

It's so fucking difficult making a black character in this game.

Even Dragon Age was bad in this respect. I tried making a black character and it just looked like a white girl with dark skin. The hair options are also geared 90% towards white hair styles

Are you guys flat out terrible or what ?

Out of curiosity I just started making a black character and he looks great.

I'll be tuning him and I'll post the results in a few minutes.

I'll post a young aged and old pic so you guys get the idea of the different styles.

Honestly, the only game with a CAC feature in it that actually made my person feel like a black person was Mass Effect. Seeing my Shepard interact with Anderson actually felt like two brothas having a conversation. My BB black female leaves much to be desired. Still, I find the people getting riled up over those who feel like BB's options are lacking very telling.

You have to work really hard, but I'm sure it's possible. The system doesn't really have any presets, so getting features to appear like certain races is all down to how much you want to tinker with the sliders. It's an effort to make any sort of specific but appealing looking characters though.

It's a character creator. You only need one character to prove the point.

Also, only one in this thread. We're not looking at some huge vertical slice of characters in Bloodborne.

In this thread.

It's not crazy to say.
Its crazy because of the idea that everyone has to look like that one or thats some kind of template so that means we should accept that you can make a black character if it looks like that. Everybody dont look the same.

Then about 99% of the pictures here still dont look black. Skin color isnt the deciding factor.

You can make whatever you want... you just have to go into the real details yourself. It takes time, trial and error, and a good understanding of what you're trying to achieve.

It would have been nice though, had they included some default faces that gave folks a better base to work from. In that they are pretty lacking. But you can make whatever you want, if it's important enough to you.

I made pretty much what I was going for... though I rushed a bit.

Surely you're not implying that the photo in this thread is the only decent black character creation this game has to offer.

If your worry is making someone aesthetically pleasing, that's an issue across the board in the game. But that's a different issue. If you're speaking about whether or not the character creator can make all the possibilities of facial structures you can try to do, that's not something I can prove or disprove. But, I feel there isn't much evidence for you to stand on pointing at it not being able to make a diverse array of people, given the radically different facial structures that have been shown in the other BB thread.

There's so much flexibility in the character creator to the point of being obnoxious so I refuse to believe that you can't make a decent black character, maybe the problem is on your end?

You can make that and you're telling me you can't make a black person? You can push the facial structure so far that it actually clips within itself.

I am thats the only one id classify as black, or having black features but it doesnt represent all of black people at all. The idea to say that one ends the argument is just too crazy to me.

So there you go. I made a face then edited it to fit different styles (young / old ), same base.

Bare in mind the white people from the game don't look crazy good heh. So let's differentiate the quality of the models of Bloodborne from the ability to portray the black race in Bloodborne.

I spent about 10 to 15 minutes on this (including the screen caps).

So with more tweaking i'm sure we can come up with something decent ?

As for the girls, it's even easier. And the short curly hair does wonder for them.

Cool. Would be awesome if we could share saved faces. I'd love to collect the ones other people have made and use them as bases.

True but i'm grateful enough for the ability to SAVE faces.

If you want the options I use I could always stream it and give you a link to the video or something.

The skin tone is definitely doable. The hair on the other hand not so much. But bloodborne has sliders to adjust bone structure and nose, eyes if you want to go that deep. You just have to try a little harder.

That's a weird step backwards, because Mass Effect nailed this pretty well IMO.

That is great, can you screen cap the settings? I want to save it as a preset.

I'll have to make a video there are far too many sliders I had to tweak (including the mark to create darker freckles and the bone structure).

But yeah if some people want it I can definitely make the video tomorrow for the settings.

I can also make a black woman for those interested. I made one as a test, didn't save her, but she looked quite good.

Yeah, the save feature is a godsend. Thanks for offering, but copying option off a video would probably take longer than if I just created my own.

It might not be perfect, but as I said, the quality of the models is a completely different issue. The point was "you can't make black people properly"(assuming white people look any better). And to that I say, just learn how to use the CC instead of whining whenever it's hard to get what you want.

^ Wow those are really good. I made a black female and now I wish I had asked you for tips before starting :D I'm pretty satisfied with my character but you have a much better handle on the settings than I do! Would be helpful to just know the skin tone settings as they are pretty much on one page unlike the myriad of bone structure options.

No offense, but that looks like a white female in black face. I appreciate the effort but calling people whiners when the indeed has a terrible base for black characters is almost just ad bad the guy who told OP to stop trying to be offended.

Wow wow wow. Hey there ^^ .

Wait, I've no reason to take it easy.

This is completely irrelevant and downright insulting.

1) I don't know any white girl with those lips or nose but OK

2) The point was showing how you can alter the default horror into something more of your liking. That result is something I liked, it offers a lot more options to tweak.

3) You can just feel free to tell me what you would change.

4) Comparing my post to a somewhat racist/offending post, thanks a lot. Very smart.

Shouldn't have to spend half an hour just to get close to one race.

Sliders move slow as shit makes it even worse
