It's 2016, and I have questions about NeoGAF

Getting tagged is one of my life goals. Even if it's for something totally dumb and embarrassing, as long as other people can have a good laugh about it I'll feel proud of myself.

On another note how does EightBitNate still not have a tag after all this time? If making Gaf history isn't tag worthy I don't know what is.

Every time someone asks about his potential tag it gets delayed by another month.

there might be some truth to this
I always wondered if there is a notes function in the user profile hidden to the public eye where mods can leave messages like "don't give him a tag, not this guy"

I used to mod another forum that used vB and this was the case. It was mainly used to keep a record of infractions/bans as opposed to personal opinions about the user. Those were shared in the mod forum. :)

I'd be surprised if the mods here didn't have something similar to track user (mis)behaviour.

we can make a club. with club jackets and stuff!
There's already a jacket you can all wear.

I'm a good boy too, op.

Can any of the GAF moderators help me with questions I have about Digital Signal Processing--specifically as it relates to digital audio? Trying to figure out how Melodyne DNA works so I can copy the algorithm illegally. Thanks mods!

Oh I forgot about Melodyne DNA, did it ever release and work?

I was also wondering about how giveaways work. Would a member doing one be capable of barring a certain person from winning. If person A is doing a giveaway and members B, C and D enter the giveaway but C is on the ignore list of A; are only B and D eligible?

Just random stuff I think of in terms of site functionality.

When you set up your giveaway you can use the BLOCK command to block a specific user from that specific giveaway. You can also have a personal blacklist and there is a command (BLACKLIST) that will block people on Modbot's global blacklist.

It's not tied to anything on the forum like your ignore list or whatever, it's completely separate.

Did CountDookkake have fans in the mod team when he was in his heyday? There was a period where he would get first post in thread after thread and his material was absolute gold. Of course the threads would be derailed and there were terrible copycats so it was inevitable the mods had to put a stop to it but those days were among my highlights of GAF lurking. Did any mods feel a pang of regret when the hammer had to come down?

Wait, I didn't know you could still message mods after you get banned. I thought you were locked out from everything.

Probably still wouldn't say anything. I like to step back and think really long and hard and silently about why I got banned, and try to make up for it (if necessary) when it's lifted. Spur of the moment reactions from me probably wouldn't help my case lol

Search your username, because it's unique you'll pretty much just get a list of people who quoted you.

Man, I should've done that. Even ctrl+finding my name on a single page is a pain.

Question: can we plead extenuating circumstances in cases of bans that have feline causes?

Or are GAF moderators dogs without souls?

I've always wondered... How does the OT thing work on Neogaf? Like who gets chosen to create a OT for something? I've seen some really cool OT for games and tv shows on Neogaf and I've always wondered how does a person get chosen to do it. Or does a person just volunteer to do it? I wouldn't mind creating a OT for something... *coughs loudly* Lol

Anyone can make an OT for something and no one has dibs on anything.

We have a thread for people to coordinate to avoid situations where two people might be interested in the same OT. It's called the |OT| |OT|:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=450653
Our expectation in that case is that anyone interested in contributing is allowed to work with people. If people can't agree on working together, then they all stink.

Our typical policy these days is that |OT| threads should go up the day before release for games and within a week before release for non-game content--this is basically a policy to prevent the first 50 pages of the OT from being hypegasm "OMG NICE OT" no-content posting.

Sometimes when an |OT| is made for something related to an existing community, people organize in that community. For example it would be typical for people working on a Steam Sale OT to organize in the Steam community, or people making a Superbowl OT to organize in the Football threads.
