It's insane that Castlevania: SOTN isn't available on PC

Why so eager for a new chance to reward a lazy port by a company that just sacked not too long ago the creative lead behind this style of Castlevania games and worked hard to cancel 2 projects of his he was still trying to work on? Some media people who met IGA in his final years with Konami said he looked very noticeably "miserable".
Getting this game won't help new games to the same standards of quality be made, it's not a similar case to the Mega Man Legacy collection that did lead to a Mega Man 11 that was more true to the vision of the actual "spiritual successor" revival.

Unless... you want to play the Saturn additions.
IGA was the main reason why they were not reused (except a few voiced lines, Maria was intended all along to be playable in the PS1 port so her inclusion in the PSP version was using his work) granted, but those additions tried to fill gaps in the original game and did a very shitty job.
He said the additions were subpar, and the new levels were pointless. He was right.
The new enemy sprites are poor edits of existing sprites, and the Underground Garden is an impasse with no reward in the end unlike all other IGA level designs in the game.

Just emulate it.

I agree. Konami needs to spread the love far and wide.

Almost every major Sony system aside from PlayStation 4 can play Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. The original PlayStation CD can be played on PlayStation (of course), PS2, and PS3. The downloadable PS1 game can be played on PS3, PSP, PS Vita, and PSTV. There was also an enhanced version of the game included with Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles, which could be played on PSP (as a UMD or downloadable) or PS Vita (downloadable).

They need to find a way to get this game on PS4, as well as on PC and other modern platforms such as Switch and mobile phones/tablets.

Konami released a compilation for PC aboout 15 years ago, which contained (if I recall correctly) the first three Castlevania games and the first two Contra games, all emulated from the NES versions.

Would really love it if, say, M2 or Digital Eclipse were commissioned for multi-regional goodies.

I concur about lazy ports somewhat, but we should definitely support the possibility of good ones, especially if it means doing so legitimately. Nothing against emulation, but it's still a grey area last resort.

I'm almost never interested in buying emulated releases, but I'd love to support true ports. I'd be all over reprints of classic games for newer consoles, or even for the original consoles in a lot of cases. In the FF7 remake thread I was thinking about how good it would be to get a reprint of the original with dialogue corrections.

Unfortunately it's rare that anything retro is ported anymore. Lizardcube recently did a great job on Dragon's Trap; if it were just a port of the PCE version instead of the SMS version with no extra work done to it I still would have paid full price for a portable version. Natsume did a great job on Wild Guns Reloaded recently too.

Re-releasing older titles does not require any creative input from the current Konami.

I wouldn't want an all new Castlevania with IGA gone, but preserving the older titles would be nice.

konami is sitting on a nice library of classics and even Husdson soft games. They do not really give a shit, they're doing fine financially last I saw.

Every time i call Konami and ask how's Axelay 2 coming along, they hang up on me? For the past 25 years. I don't think it's good business practice?

Just tried it out in retroarch. Smooth as a babies bottom.

I'm just starting to get into RetroArch actually today, which 'core' do you use?

I'm going to mess around with it on my Sony Android TV, that way I don't have to turn on my PS3 as often.

I suppose I could also used my PlayStation TV that I never taken out of the box yet as well.

Beetle PSX HW is really good, runs well with lots of options for improving image quality and for removing that wobbling effect that's associated with PSX games.
There's even over lock options so you can get PSX games that where once stuttering messes to run really smoothly.

That's a fair point. I was thinking of specific formats when I listed mine. The only formats available are PS1, PSP, and 360 as far as I can remember. The PS1 version can be played on a PS2 or PS3 or PSP/Vita, but it's still the same PS1 format game. I would die (with glee) if a PS4 version was released, whether it looks the same as the original or whether it's a remaster/remake.

Am I the only one who thinks it's insane that Castlevania: Symphony of the Night isn't available on PC? Sure, you can run it on an emulator pretty easily, but I'm talking about an official Steam release with achievements and trading cards. I feel like Konami is leaving hundreds of thousands of dollars on the table here by not making this classic game available on PC. There is a huge group of people that would be more than willing to spend $10 for a faithful version of it, with just minimal modifications (compatibility with most popular gamepads used on PC, e.g. Xbone controller, PS4, Steam controller).

What's the matter, Konami - do you not like free money?

Dude, you are so right. SOFN, and a whole lot of other konami games. How the hell is Lord of Shadows on PC and not this game?

SOTN was amazing, top classic games of all time. I really cant wait for Bloodstained. I backed the game, and got to play the demo. Game definitely feels like a spiritual sequel.
