It was less obtrusive before. I have noticed people using it more frequently, due to the quick edit feature. Maybe they can just remove/hide that field.

Also sigs are permanent things you don't have to include every single time. The edit summary you'd have to change for all of your posts.

It'll pad out each page of posts but it would be easier than trying to mentally link an avatar to a random poster to figure out who they are.
