It's official: Peter Moore Leaving Microsoft! ($550k salary, $1.5M signing bonus, &)

Quite frankly - that's why folks like myself, and the rest of the Community Team are involved in this, and other forums/blogs/podcasts/websites/etc - so that execs don't HAVE to be in the forums all day instead of doing their primary functions.

I know for a fact that Peter checks out GAF. I'm not saying he lives in here, but he see the photoshops.

That's why I said earlier that this looked bad for MS.

I associated Moore with the 360 and I respected him for the most part. Far more than most PR guys.

Indeed he was voted number one in the "itsgreen's likeable industry leaders awards 2006-2007". Looks like Sony is grabbing the price this year with Jack Tretton... Really like that guy, but Hell Freezes over before I buy that machine for 499/599$

This is quite surprising. Peter Moore did a great job at MS, and managed to be in tune with the gaming masses. He also gave the best and most candid interviews. It's definitely a big loss for the H&E division. I fear the next VP will be out of touch with gaming.

I have to say, I'm not exactly going to miss him, but I never really hated him. He usually didn't seem out-of-touch, and he seemed a lot more honest and knowledgable than 90% of the other PR people in this industry.

Would be priceless to know what he thinks of them. But like I said in an earlier post to some extent I think it showed Peter had a genuine COncern for his industry that he personally took time to look around.

He may not have lived on the forums but the fact he took the step to visit himself is pretty good. usually its Community relations and hired hands who stick to the forums and write up reports for the executives.

Uh-huh. Can you imagine if someone like Perrin Kaplan took his job... Id quit the Xbox.

Don Mattrick is though I know.

Know anything about the "new guy", Don Mattrick?

I understand that this is GAF and there are animated gifs, and conspiracy theories surrounding Peter's move to EA.

The fact of the matter is that he's doing it for personal reasons in order to get his family back to their San Francisco bay-area roots, the place he and his family want to be.

In all the conversations I’ve been privy to, this was not a decision he took lightly, and not one he rushed to make. He was not pushed out, he didn’t jump ship…he made a career decision that was in both the best interests of his family and his career.

I respect the heck out of Peter, and I'm glad to see that he was so well-respected even here in the land of NeoGAF. ;)

Keep the photoshops funny - you guys have gotten several "belly-laughs" out of me so far.

Thanks for this great post in a sea of moronic posts...

Takes a real man to do this for his family, and I'd imagine it was hard as hell to make, but he did what he felt was best - gotta respect that...

I see it as a huge loss, and he'll definitely be missed - as an exec, he was definitely my favorite, as he always was in touch with the community, and didn't just seem like a guy in a suit - he was a great face for MS's gaming division...

I wish him luck, and I have no idea who this EA guy is, but I hope he took notes and knows how to be a gamer-person for the public...

K just watched the "Loop" on Attack of the show.

They had the guy that broke the story from Kotaku & Adam Sessler.

-Apparently this was in the planning for a number of weeks.

-Peter Moore is moving back to the Bay strictly for family reasons.

-The new guy they aren't sure about, "He doesn't have the sizzle of Peter Moore"

-There isn't a conspiracy theory, but the guy when asked (Kotaku) said there is a chance
of a recall on the 360. But no one really knows for sure.

- They are suprised at the timing of the announcement.

- No chance of EA games being exclusive to the 360, its not in EA best interests.

- No chance of MS buying EA, EA is not interested, and its not in there best interest.

there are no words. I don't know whether to laugh at some of you or to cry.

A sad day for Xbox fans (especially exiled Segaites) - i'm now worried about who will replace him. They need some one with a bit of vavavoooom. I just worry we'll get a suit.

Perhaps they could tap up Jaffe or someone interesting/some knowledge of the industry?

Or Jeff Minter... i'd go to every keynote.

I wonder if Cliffy B is the new man on campus?

That would be an interesting transition from designing games to staring at Excel spreadsheets all day.

dooon't stop beeliievin'!

Just had our all-hands meeting with Peter/Robbie and I gotta say, I'm really gonna miss Peter Moore as the head of the group. He's got an unmatched intensity I've not seen in any gaming execs out there and he really was able to get people fired up. Best of luck to him at EA Sports!

330K to move? How much does it cost to rent a freaking U-Haul anyway? Or are they just picking up his house and moving it a few hours south?

Nice contract if you can get it. Good on him.

Heh. Looks like he'll finally get a chance to have his Mario.

he needs at least 360 U-Hauls..........

Its funny that Kotaku/G4 mentions that. Today at work the 360 went out of stock at the warehouse, this hasnt happened since the system launched. BTW, Im talking about Wal Mart.

Probably a coincidence but this is GAF so speculate away.:lol

Has anyone thought of what this will do for EA Sports and EA in general? It'll be interesting to see if Peter takes a spotlight position with the company, championing the brand and everything, or if he just assumes a day-to-day, sunset-rider style stance with what really is an easier position than his MS duties.

He will be missed, regardless.

Wal-Mart isn't included on NPD, right?

No concern. Carry on. :D

Have you had much experience dealing with the new guy from EA while you were at Ziff?

Relax, he said there could be, but NO ONE REALLY KNOWS!

Not gonna happen because if it was it would have already happened.

Surely having all the systems breaking on people and it constantly being in the news is better for their image.
People normally associate recalls with health and safety issues... it could quite literally be a xbox brand killer.

NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peter was awesome :(

but it's doing OK now. People are still buying it, a recall will turn their perfect 07 fall-winter line-up into nothing. With Halo3+GTAIV on shelf and you are told there is no way you can find a Xbox 360 for x weeks. Can you accept that?

Which is why there's no chance in hell of a recall.

We will see, with this months NPD. I think the drop in xbox sales have been because of hardware failures. This stuff will continue to hurt their image.

A recall might not happen before Christmas, but to be honest it would be in their best interest to find a way to inform the public that when they buy an Xbox360 this holiday season, it isn't one of those 360's that break.

They need to come out and say "Hey, its fixed, no worries." Right now all they are saying is "It's gonna break, but don't worry, you'll be covered." Which is nooooo where near good enough.

I don't know much about the logistics behind a recall, but I'm sure it's not something that can be done overnight. So even if they wanted to do it now, I'm sure they couldn't; not without all the planning.
