ITT we discuss the best/worst game company logos (past or present)

That Naughty Dog logo appeared before games like Way of the Warrior. It kinda fit.

Now this logo plastered on games like Thunder Force V and Silhouette Mirage, what a buzzkill...

Here's a goofier one that I actually like:

The company's life was cut far too short, but their logo always stuck with me. If you don't recognize the name, they created the Tomba series on PS1. The logo, along with the accompanying "Whooopeeeee!" sound, fits the style of the Tomba games perfectly.

Best ever IMO. Shadow of the Beast also had the best title screen/intro music ever too IMO

as far as logo design goes it's kind of off. the psygnosis text is great but with that owl graphic below it becomes too detailed and i don't like the way the owl relates with the text visually.

the circle owl face mark is outstanding, though.

conversely, while i don't care for the name the logo for studio liverpool is a favorite of mine:

i'm also a fan of this little mark from obscure-ish japanese developer nichibutsu:

the simplicity and vague home-made/wood carved look of the owl character is great.

nintendo is traditionally a purveyor of fine logo design, and the gamecube brand was no exception. i really really love this mark. it is more-or-less everything a good logo/mark should be. i suppose by default i love the N64 "N" as well, but the primary coloration of it sours the design a bit.

in regards to bad logos

DICE's logotype always bothers me. it looks like a cheap future-font i would've downloaded in like 1998. it doesn't particularly "say" anything to me and especially doesn't seem to fit in well with the studio's output of games

this was barfy even when it was new:

this continues to bother me even though i've stopped playing games in this series.

all i see is this:

Good logo,
capcom.jpg

It's nice and simple, and eye-catching. It looks like the Pokemon font but is actually the one used in Jeopardy questions.

somewhat alright.

Personally I prefer the Red logo over the dull grey logo.

Those, along with Sega's are timeless. Do it once, do it right.

As much as i like Insomniac ... its time for a logo redesign.

Overlap all the letters there. It resembles something.

Bad:

I mean it looks dated now, but it looked crappy to my 14 year old, 1982 self also. Though that might have been because Arcadia killed me so much.

Good:

Just love the typeface.

I like the lion's head, but the font is particularly boring.

Abomination:

Ugh, what were they thinking?

Rockstar's

It looks great in many colors, plus it's simple and looks good in almost anything (well... In my opinion). Easy on the eyes and recognizable.
FFFFUUUUUUU. I just realized why there's a star in the logo. I'm an idiot.

The articles on Portal and Assassin's Creed are very interesting.

To me, the A in the logo of AC always represented the masonic compass. Very apt for a series so full of conspiratiorial imaginary.

I've always like Grasshopper studios' logo for how different it was. A little too busy, for my tastes but still rad.

Sega has a great logo, for sure.

people actually think the kojima logo looks good? i've always despised it. it looks like it's being squished from the sides.

Yeah, the oval version of the logo does look a bit squished. I was mainly praising what's inside of the gray outline, though. Here's an example of how it looks once freed from the confines of that oval:

I always loved the old NAMCO Font, so classy. As was already pointed out before, the new logo is just a plain disaster.

Ironically, the old Bandai Logo isn't that bad either, or maybe that's just nostalgia...

Some great stuff in there, thanks for sharing.

I always thought it was a compass as well.
