edit: To this date, I have no idea why I had the music on for this battle. This song really made me so scared, and the actual duel almost gave me a heart-attack. Without me music, it would've been a lot easier :lol

And the fact they reworked a ton of it for Cataclysm, where they managed to create even better tracks for some of the zones is astounding. Whoever is in charge of this over at Blizzard needs to be crowned king.

Chills. 1:25 onward is amazing. At least WotLK soundtrack was by Russel Brower, Derek Duke and Matt Uelmen. Russel Brower was also responsible for most of the best TBC themes (several Blood Elf themes, Karazhan).

My recent favorite is Binding of Isaac. Some highlights for me include:

Mom's Heart
My Innermost Apocalypse
Catacombs
Necropolis

Generally entire soundtrack is great, I can't think of a single dud at the moment.

As a bonus, another theme from Danny Baranovsky, Super Meat Boy - Hot Damned.

Why is it the best ever? Because the music the EXACT SAME as on the Genesis version but sounding like the song was made today, with quality sound. It is downright fucking amazing.

Yep. Hopefully, all of this interest in game music will be channeled into this year's game soundtrack of the year thread when it goes up. Because Xenoblade's soundtrack is brought up frequently here, it's worth mentioning that it won last year's vote by a significant margin.

I'll limit my post to a few great soundtracks from this year that haven't been mentioned yet.

1) Gravity Rush: a fun, energetic, jazzy score. Douse Shinundakara is particularly impressive.

2) Max Payne 3: HEALTH created a unique and unnerving soundscape here. Most would agree that Tears is the best standalone piece.

3) Fez: minimalist and ambient chiptune soundtrack. Along with Dustforce's soundtrack, I have had this in constant rotation as background music while working around the house. Spirit is my personal favorite, but the way that Sync is utilized in-game is incredible (Fez spoilers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjej-yuJPnI).
