I've brought an Asian PS3 to Japan... need help!

Ok so I've brought my Asian PS3 to Japan and it doesn't seem to work. I've looked under the PS3 and it says "220v-240v" and I understand that Japan uses 100v or something.

My question is do I need a step up transformer OR a step down transformer? Also any J-Gaffers know where they sell these? Akihabara? Thanks in advance.

You shouldn't need to as the ps3 already automatically convert its (universal voltage)

Two baka replies already.
Read the OP. It says 220-240V on his PS3. That is NOT universal.

Edit: you need an up transformer.
Edit2: be careful that you get one with a high enough watt throughput.

One idiot reply already.

What it says on the outside of the PS3 doesn't matter. They are all universal so far. Mine (US) only says 110V on the outside, but works just fine on 230V here in Sweden.

Edit: you don't need an up transformer.
Edit2: be careful that you don't get an up transformer since you don't need one.

Yeah the PS3 is universal.

What part can't you fools read the OP where it says:

"Ok so I've brought my Asian PS3 to Japan and it doesn't seem to work."

If it was universal, then why isn't it working?

My guess?

Shit got broke en route.

Is it a 40/80GB one or a 60GB? I know the older models had universal PSUs, but not sure about the new models.
Its a 80gb model... bought it at the end of last year.

I know PS3s have universal power supply, but I've also read that some version of newer PS3s are not (maybe I'm wrong). Yeah there's also the possibility of my PS3 got broke during the journey here, but I handled it very carefully, putting it in its original box & carried it as a hand luggage.

So uh anyone here have brought their 80gb Asian PS3 to Japan? That's the only way to know if my PS3 is broken or not...

Well a voltage converter should be that expensive (here there are pretty cheap).

So you can buy one and test the PS3 with it. If it works, then your PS3 is 220V only and not have an universal power supply. If it still does not work, you can return the converter to the store and at least you know for sure it is not a power problem.

I'm 100% sure that 40GB is universal as well since I know people who have Japanese 40GB units and live in Europe. The same thing should hold true for the 80GB.
