looks cool, fun shooty bits

negatives:
- end boss is a QTE
- walking in the desert bit. yawn.
- too many walking bits in general. these are clearly just there to show off the flash graphics. If I wanted to walk in nature I'd go do the real thing - I'm playing this game to MURDER PEOPLE

Well i actually like to walk around in virtual nature after all the real life murdering. Think thats who theyre catering to tbh.

Its a fun single shot blast through, but I couldnt imagine playing it twice. The characters are awful, Drake is a complete cunt, his brother not much better, obviously there's the ridiculous body count of women and children Drake has widowed/orphaned.

Every time UC comes up, people talk about the character chemisty, feels, and so on. It baffles me. It's shockingly poorly written, ham fisted, cringeworthy stuff, even ignoring the implausibility of it all. The only thing the characters have done is spend time together, 4 games worth of time. All they have is familiarity, and somehow it's marketed as pathos and chemistry. I've shat out better dialogue with a squeakily long controlled fart after a curry than the so called wonderful writing on show, and I've had more poignant goodbyes when flushing the toilet, than the end and shots of old boats etc.

The one decent thing it did was the post credit beach stuff, but I still felt like Drake is unsufferably smug, and would happily go back in time to drown him given the chance.

I was hype to play it, got through 4 chapters, and turned it off. I was honestly bored af. I guess I'm sick of the Uncharted formula. I turned it off and started playing God of War.

I'm glad I did. That game is a legit GOAT candidate. I've never played a game with so much polish. I'll go back to Uncharted 4 eventually, but I needed something that really grabbed me.

I've only played through it once. I was really burnt out on the formula and it's really hard to go back to Uncharted's combat after TLOU as the gun play doesn't feel as weighty or like it has the punch of Naughty Dog's other series. The set pieces feel less over the top than Uncharted 3 but it still feels like they are always trying to one-up the spectacle of Uncharted 2 and always end up feeling exhausting. The platforming is also as terrible as ever.

i'm with you, i absolutely don't care for ND storytelling and characters, maybe an unpopular opinion but it is what it is.

edgy ellie who said fuck or fucking every 2 words or bootleg indiana jones and his crew being considered such great characters is absolutely beyond me

tlou has some of the meatiest gunplay ever, i was kinda shooked that unchy4 was kinda of a step down compared to an old gen game (but still far superior to old uncharted games)

tlou2 is gonna be a return to greatness i think.

Lord I hope so but I'd be lying if I said I weren't a tad worried. I kind of hate when someone tells you to play a game on a certain difficulty level, but TLOU on Survivor and Grounded make the combat shine. Kind of like Halo on Legendary.

I just hope the gun play is more akin to TLOU than UC4/Lost Legecy.
from the trailers he looks gruesome and meaty like the old tlou, probably even better.
they probably tone down all this stuff for the less serious and more happy uncharted series.

Because 2 is the best in the series followed by Lost Legacy

To me Lost Legacy shat on Uncharted 4 in every way possible!
i have lost legacy in the hard disk but i was totally burned by unchy4 and i only played the begin of that (not really a fan of that part)
is it really on the level of u2 without the shitty pacing of u4?

Nothing will ever be like Uncharted 2 but Lost Legacy is definitely a way better experience than the boring Uncharted 4

Go play it, you won't regret it. You have my word brother!

I mean, shooting is bad if you only care about the act of aiming and pressing the trigger to feel super duper satisfaction or whatever, but the combat in general on Uncharted 4 is great. There is no comparable TPS for what the game delivers.
I think a lot of the great things about it get lost on people that don't care for understanding how it works.

As an example, contextual actions are contextual and not automated. Why make the difference? because it is in your control what happens.
For example, if you are out of ammo, attacking an enemy with melee will execute them and give you their weapon.
If you have a vault-able surface betwee you and the enemy and he is not taking cover, you will vault and kick them.
if your partner is close, you can do team attacks, and so on.

The implementation of traversal in combat is amazing as well, sliding, swinging , jumping and climbing are all integrated seamlessly into combat. You can attack during any of this actions and accuracy of enemies decrease as you keep moving encouraging using melee and blind fire as ways to take advantage of your position and movement.

If anything, i think the game has too little combat. I think it needed an "arcade" mode or "time attack" like vanquish. The multiplayer horde mode doesn't count because it's too gimped, you can't do half the shit you can on SP.

i always repost this video when defending U4's combat.

I finished it recently for the first time. Was a really, really good game!
I highly recommend it. If you have PS+, you're getting it for free in a few days!

Uncharted 4 it's a classic and I can't wait to play it on the PS5 with enhanced features.
I wish they at least offer a 60fps mode on the PS5, but it will need a patch... so who knows?

I should probably give it another try, but I had serious trouble with the pacing early in the game.

might be a hot take but whatever, 4 is the best one by a long shot. imo it has the best story and gives the characters the most depth. the first three games are quite outdated and follow a really simple formula and are too samey. if u liked 4, u should also play the lost legacy. while the story isn't as good, it retains the good gameplay but in a faster paced game with wider environments.

like i said, combat is vastly improved from previous uncharted and easily the best part of the game.

Still an impressive game from every perspective; graphics, gameplay, art style, immersion. Yeah, I know some people have the wrong opinion about the game, the pace is critiziced a lot, but I actually found it to be amazing. You don't know where the game is gonna take you and the different paces makes it breath and adds to the immersion and the cinematic experience. Uncharted 4 it's a classic and I can't wait to play it on the PS5 with enhanced features.

Watching Sam, Nathan and Sullivan together is comfy as fuck . There is a nice chemistry between them and I would watch their over the top adventures forever.

Also the flashbacks of Nathan and Sam when they were kids add a good touch to their backstory and personalities. For the first time, I found the characters charismatic and I cared about them.

I really hope there is an Uncharted 5 with the old gang in the near future.
I've beaten Uncharted 4's campaign so many times and i still love it. They did a wonderful job. It's one of the G.O.A.T's of this generation

Totally disagree. It was a perfect omage to Uncharted fans and Playstattion fabs alike. He now has a family, a beautiful beach house and a life full of memories. Its a perfect ending, time to close the book. Dont milk this.

They fucked over Amy so they could make this game. Then they didn't know what to do once they had it all to themselves, so they fucked over Uncharted as well.

They rehashed the orphan flashback scene from the beginning of Uncharted 3 not once, but twice, with none of the power or urgency that made the UC3 opening so memorable. The second time they did it, it added absolutely nothing to the plot and only padded the playtime of an already uninspired game. Uncharted always used its banter to complement the traversal of proactively moving the player forward from point A to point B in the quest. Here, they they're only a detour distraction that keeps the plot mired in mud. They were decadently indulging in the Last of Us style ethos of incorporating walking exposition just for the sake of having it. The connective tissue of Uncharted's puzzles, platforming, and combat was always the set pieces, but this time the directors couldn't help themselves from just making another Last of Us.

Every Uncharted sequel has had to deal with Drake missing out on Elena because he was "all about that life" and showing them finally together at the end. It felt contrived and irresponsibly lazy to play that same theme again but this time showing them married doing dishes and playing video games. Yes, there is a nice emotional resonance there but it also makes it less convincing when he goes off with his brother to murder a bunch of guys in the jungle. Uncharted 4 jumped the shark.

You guys are really overselling it by saying this game did things "vastly improved" from its predecessors. Uncharted always had contextual melee. It always had fluid gunplay. It would be a catastrophe if things hadn't been improved by a generational transition. But to act like it's that much more than the previous games just isn't true. What we can all agree that they did not improve on are the set pieces the framchise is known for. Where are they?

I sympathize with what's happening here, I have had this experience myself where I come to a series late and what the developers are trying to do different with the latest entry clicks with me, while putting off long time fans. Salud to you guys. But even when I enjoy that, I still respect the contract fans have with a franchise and the expectation that a new entry will honor the roots and strengths of the series.

I've never played any Uncharted, but I'm somehow intrigued by the slower pace and bigger breadth of the enviroments.
Does it make sense to play without having played any other chapter? Would it be enjoyable at all?

You could probably do that, but the first three games are all great.

I thought UC4 was worst of the series -- too much family drama for my tastes. I enjoyed it, but there were parts that were meh. I'd give it a B minus.

UC1 B+
UC2 A
UC3 A-
UC4 B-
LL Played for a few hours but stopped.

I only played 4. I loved it. It was like playing Indiana Jones in a (good) movie.

I need to play the spin off now.

Do it, it's really good., and now is the perfect time I think it's on sale

U4 is best uncharted for me, though I love 2 as well. Everything just clicks and graphics and animation is top notch, imagine what ND can do with PS5, dang.

Is it ok to play 2 on PS4?

ND is becoming the best game studio. They have both all the money and time they want from Sony, plus all this knowledge in the PS4 hardware to make it shines like no one else... exept maybe San Mateo Studio and Guerrilla Games. Polyphony Digital (GT Sport is incredible) and Santa Monica Studio are stellar studios too.

I got just over half way through when my hard drive crashed.

Thinking about doing it all again is depressing. I wish you could import saves from elsewhere

You mean Uncharted 2? I think there's Nathan Drake collection for PS4 if you want to play 1-3, not sure though if it's part of the April sale.

ND is top notch no doubt among all the Sony studios, but yeah the other ones you mentioned are stellar as well. I think Guerilla Games is getting there as well after the massive success of HZD, can't wait for them to show the next one on PS5. What I like about the Sony studios is they seem to have a healthy competition among each other which benefits the gamers in the end.

I adored Uncharted 4. I feel like I played a different game than everyone else. To me it’s a 10 and is easily the best first party PS4 game this generation.
It felt completely devoid of any care or love from the developer. It was all so uninspired and cookie cutter. Enter area, either kill enemy wave(s), platform around or explore some area while dialog happens and fin. There was no blending of it; it all felt so disjointed in that regard and wore out the enjoyment of those gameplay elements. Of course that's my opinion.

It's not a walking simulator, but it's a cinematic game. There's 0 mechanical complexity. It's not that far from walking simulators, the problem is there's a pejorative undertone associated with those. You don't play Uncharted for the rich gameplay because it isn't there, you play it for the visual spectacle, for the insane production value, for the story and characters, the strengths are elsewhere.
Shut the fuck up your highness

It was the first Uncharted game I couldn't be bothered to finish. There wasn't anything screamingly horrible about it, I just found my level of engagement slowly dropping over time. Actually, that's been the defining feature of this generation to me - playing PS4/XBone sequels of games I had really liked on the PS3/360 and concluding I liked the earlier ones a lot more.

For me too much jumping and climbing. Felt more like a parcour simulator than an action game.
