I watched the daym drops video couple years ago and thought "why not, give it a try"

I walked in and saw ÂŁ15 for a burger meal. Fuck off.

As you are in the UK I'd suggest the handmade burger co if your looking for upmarket burgers. Bout ÂŁ8 for a meal and way better than makkies.

Oh, the fries are cooked in peanut oil and are vegan!

I'll get a large then. >:)

GBK is pretty good, too.

It definitely costs more than it's worth. Particularly the fries. And yes, I'm being serious. Anyone who thinks those fries are good has issues, man. They also tend to be so slow that I don't know how they qualify as fast food.

Burgers are really tasty, but yeah, it's expensive. I'm kinda burned out on the fries too, so I usually just get a burger when I'm there and it's still close to $10.

I've never been to 5 Guys. A few years ago I got a GPS for my car, and at some point I looked up the nearest 5 Guys locations and entered two or three of them into it. Then a few days later my car got broken into and like an idiot I had left the GPS in the glove box. At that point I figured it just wasn't meant to be. In-N-Out's good enough for me.

What's weird to me is that these "upscale" burger chains are greasier and saltier than regular fast food. I always feel dirty after eating at them.

A Five Guys just opened a couple weeks ago on the ground floor of the building where I work. Tried it once. The burgers are nothing special, the fries are oversalted, and yeah, it's too much money for fast food. Haven't been back since.

I've been to Five Guys probably 5 times total in my life. How is the quality when compared to other places?

Like I don't expect a hamburger to be the healthiest thing I can eat but is it quality food?

Five Guys in the UK is stupidly expensive for what it is. Don't get me wrong, the food is definitely better than the likes of McDonalds and Burger King, but it's not worth the price it costs here.

Good food? Yes. Good value? No.

better to go to five guys with another person and dine in.

order one regular fries and split it. little burger is imo the ideal size and best meat/veggy/bread ratio.

after you order, find a table and eat some peanuts while you wait for your order.

5 guys is def. expensive (but good. Their fries are to die for imo), but I have to comment about the in&out mentions.

After seeing many people commenting continuously on this chain on GAF I had to try it a few months back.

...

That's just a slightly better Burger King which is itself slightly better than McDonalds.
Choice at In& Out is terrible (basically burger or cheeseburger). Burger itself is ok, nothing special (good quality, but again nothing out of this world).

Not on the scale of Whataburger or Wendy's.

Which are themselves upscaled by Red Robin (the Royal with the egg is great).

Which is itself nowhere near the quaity/ taste of a 5 guys or Fudruckers.

Which are finally upscaled by specialty restaurant like Blue Moon Burgers

My 2cps about the burgers I've tried so far in the US (I am French, in the US since 2005, US naturalized since 2010).

Don't have some of those up here.

Where I live I'd say it's Burgerville (so good.gif) >>>>> Five Guys > A&W > Jack in the Box > Wendys/Burger King > McDonalds as far as franchise fast food goes, not counting local stuff.

Only been to an In & Out once while in CA and it was pretty good, but definitely not the best thing ever. Judging by some of the comments saying that they think Five Guys sucks, I'm sure the quality varies from place to place and who is cooking up your stuff, since the one we have here is always pretty good.

Don't be a bitch like everyone in the thread saying not to get large fries OP. Get it large and eat the whole thing.

Believe me. I weigh 130 pounds and get a regular burger and large fries all the time. You can do it.

I'm literally three times the size of this man and can't finish a large fries. Don't listen to this mutant and get a small and thank me later.

Pretty much, I do really quite like Five Guys compared to the other fast food joints but it's definitely an occasional treat given it's easy to spend ÂŁ15-20 a go =/

Yeah, it must. My local In n Out blows the local Five Guys out of the water.
Seriously, I tried it after hearing the praises for a couple years and felt like I got ripped off. Fries were plentiful but of low quality, like eating soggy cardboard and the burger didn't have much taste either. The fact that I had more options didn't make up for the fact that it tasted bland in the end anyway. Hardly even average overall.

Maybe I should try a different Five Guys but I'm still not a fan of price/product ratio.

Go to The Habit instead

Yeah, big fan of that place. Above average burgers. Them and InNOut are at the top of my list.

Five Guys's expansion was super aggressive, adding thousands of stores in little more than a couple years. They definitely lost themselves in the process, because they don't really control what their franchises do at all. Despite being in the neighboring state, the meal I get at my local franchise doesn't come remotely close to how good the food at the original five or so restaurants in northern VA were; we used to drive down solely for Five Guys. I miss those days a lot.

The burger is good but the fries suck (yes, including the Cajun fries).

I think the In-N-Out fries suck too, btw.

I fucking love Five Guys' fries when they're crispy and not undercooked. But when they are, yeah, they suck pretty hard.

The burger is also my favorite chain burger hands down. I haven't had one that compares yet to any east coast chain or otherwise.

I feel like you're hyping it too much for the taste, OP. Lower your expectations a bit and enjoy a good - not amazing - burger.

Your shake order is awful. Five Guys only added shakes in the recent past and they aren't notable at all so you really should get it with a soda like it's famous for.

Tasty Burger.

Shakeshack is arguable.

yeah it's expensive and the burgers are horrible. The fries are really good though. I used to get burgers from in n out and then fries from five guys.

Fuck, 18 pounds is like $27. We aren't paying that over in the States for 5 guys. I pay less than half of that for the same thing. Can't imagine what Shake Shack would cost over there.

Don't forget to get extra cheese, its free. i always get the same thing, bacon cheeseburger, extra cheese, extra grilled mushrooms and extra grilled onions. Yea large fries is too much for one person, also get the cajun fries. Never bothered with a shake.

Don't listen to the cheapo's trying to prop In and Out burgers as higher just because they are cheap. Go to McD's and get a mcdouble then, if you want a real burger go to Five Guys'. They are so good people sneak into Five Guys just to make themselves burgers instead of robbing the place.

here's the best trick I learned about 5 guys: whatever you pay for, you can get extra of, for free.

Want extra jalepenos? they're free, so ask for them.
Want extra cheese on your cheeseburger? go right ahead
Want double bacon on your bacon cheeseburger? it's free

Obviously you don't get free bacon on your plain hamburger, but if it's included once in the price you can get extra for free.. and with all the extra toppings there is NO need to ever get the overpriced double burger. In the USA they are charging you $2 alone for that extra patty.. insane. Go for the 'little' burger. It just means 1 patty and big savings.

I just ate there for the first time last weekend.... my personal opinion is that its overpriced and not even in my top 10 burgers lol.... the only thing I dont regret is the Cajun Fries drizzled with Malt Vinegar .... man I want them now..

i could feed a family of 4 at dicks in seattle for the same price of 1 entire 5 guys meal with a decent sized burger.

I can feel my cholesterol spiking just thinking about Five Guys, but damn those greasy burgers and fries are good. Overall not that expensive in the States though, I just try avoiding going often because I feel like death after eating it (but heaven while eating it haha).

I just had a salad, drink and some tenders at chik fil a for $15.xx = not worth the $.

It was pretty good but i can get way better for less.

went to 5 guys for the first time last week. don't ever get cheese on a burger there, it's just a shitty cold unmelted slice of processed cheese. definitely made the burger worse. aside from that it was okay, nothing special, certainly not worth the price of admission

Went to Five Guys once about a year ago. Decent food but the slight boost in quality compared to McD's/Wendy's doesn't make up for the ridiculous prices.

You can almost buy two In-N-Out Double Doubles for the price of a Five Guys hamburger.
And adult burger combos at Fuddruckers start at $6.99, plus you get a free kids meal with each adult order.

Very expensive for what you get. Food is good, but really just like a posh McDonalds. The thing I despise about the place is the decor. Feel like I'm in an abbatoir or a Victorian era mental hospital. It's so stark and not cosy at all. Feels cold.

Edit: To be honest just go get an Angus burger from Burger King. Fucking best fast food burger out there. That sauce, and thick cut onions and proper slices of tomato and the unique taste of the Aberdeen Angus beef.... Mmmmmmmmm

The only time I ate at Five Guys was when I graduated from my Master's and I had never been to the local one before so I went.

The cashier fucked up and her cash register broke so I got a free full meal from 'em.

A pretty good sign IMO and yeah it was expensive.

If I had paid for it I would have been profoundly disappointed.

Five guys is okay. I'll say that it's cool they have vinegar for the fries. I had no idea what it was for initially. But I appreciate they're keeping that old tradition alive.
