I've never seen a console launch lineup improve so much this fast

For me, personally, I was always content on only getting BOTW at launch for the Switch and wait on the other titles.

However, with less than 10 days to launch, Nintendo announced a handful of other launch titles, many of which are potentially big sellers.

Now in NA, I think we have these available next Friday:

Zelda
1 2 Switch
Bomberman
Skylanders
Just Dance
FAST RMX
Snipperclips
Shovel Knight
I am Setsuna

For what it's worth, I don't think people can fault Nintendo for not having games at launch now. They may not be big "typical" first-party Nintendo games, but there is a definitely a more high-quality launch lineup now.

Anyone else feel the ship turned really quick regarding the titles available?

I'm happy to hear about the Neo Geo games coming! (Will have to use Region Free)

Guess we are getting VC after all, eh? :^)

This is like putting sprinkles on top of some okay ice cream. It doesn't change it being bad, but at least there's some colour on the top of it now.

I still think the launch lineup is garbage overall but Zelda looks amazing, and could alone be worth the price of admission.

Nintendo has definitely botched some things here and there, but they also clearly have a well thought-out plan. Spreading these announcements out has led to the Switch dominating the conversation on sites like this.

I feel like things would have died down by now if we got most of this information in January.

Not necessarily... Neo Geo games just came to Xbox as standalone titles. They aren't the same titles that are coming to Switch in Japan, but it casts doubt on that announcement being a sure confirmation of VC.

Considering I'll be picking up 4 really great games at launch instead of just 1, yeah things have improved quite a bit. The rest of the year looks to have a ton of stuff I'm interested in as well.

I've gotta be honest

just having BotW makes this better than most launches for me

Wii U had a more robust line up on paper but I'd trade every single one of those games for just BotW

though, yeah, the added indie support is nice

For certain tastes, it's turned into a pretty nice launch. I'm in that camp. For others, it's probably still not doing all that much for them, which I can understand.

But yeah, I've got five games to buy on day one now.

So which of the games you listed are the newly announced 'system sellers' other than Zelda, which you already knew about?

Nintendo fan Stockholm syndrome continues to intensify.

My thoughts exactly.

What are the improvements?

So it's Zelda (a game that's on the Wii U too), and some ports of years-old games, and...?

Volume wise it got better, but that is it. Needed another Nintendo hit (MK8 or Splatoon) for it to be salvaged. And the no VC stuff really hurts it as well.

Not sure how people continue to defend this.

I am buying one to play Zelda, but that doesn't mean I have to justify the purchase to anyone.

No.

It´s Zelda, some overpriced shovelware and a bunch of games people have already played.

It´s still not great.

But so are most console launches. Who cares.

What Nintendo launches have had numerous amazing games?

SNES had Mario World and Pilotwings I think
N64 had Mario 64
Gamecube had... Luigi's Mansion?
Wii had Twilight Princess (also a Gamecube port)
Wii U had New Super Mario Bros. U
Now Switch has Zelda (also a Wii U port!)

It's not something I'm terribly flustered about. Zelda is the killer app launch title and I think having one huge game and a handful of okay ones is better than having just a handful of okay ones, which is personally how I felt about the PS4 launch for example. Best launch game on PS4 was Black Flag and that was multiplatform.

After Zelda it'll just be a paper weight. Until Mario Kart. Then Splatoon. It's a horrible launch.

snipper clips looks cute

zelda yeah sure

everything else seems kind of standard launch stuff

except without big third party games, pretty anemic honestly

I still don't see how anyone can say this lineup is particularly "good" given the long time before the Switch unveil. Remember all the discussion about how they were taking their time to make sure they had lots of big titles to launch with? What happened to that?

Zelda is obviously a certified system seller, but other than that, the list is not only small, it is populated by games many are not interested in, or could have played years ago on other platforms.

>Overpriced shovelware

Only thing in your statement I can't agree with, what's the shovelware aside of just dance 2017?

SNES also had F-Zero. Right?

Sorry, but Zelda isn't enough to carry the Switch.

I Am Setsuna is so bad it might as well be shovelware. It came from a subsidiary called Tokyo RPG Factory. Sounds like the literal definition of shovelware.

I was pretty confident in this all along, as with a big title like BotW that is the unambiguous lead software set up to move units, day one is less important than month one. But now most of month one is securely on day one regardless, and I won't say no to that. Not everybody interested in the device as a curiosity (or here to lock up a unit now before other, more personally alluring titles land later in the year) will necessarily jump into Zelda first.

Really, much of the pessimism at the announcement in January came partly from total lack of exposure to what games like Snipperclips were, or now nice Fast RMX looks in action.

I don't fault anyone for still passing on the system if large, robust single-player games are their focus, though, especially if they own a Wii U. It remains to be seen whether Splatoon 2's single-player campaign is more substantial than the first game's five-to-ten-hour "tutorial plus amazing boss", but right now, that is the conspicuous gap. Maybe Zelda will hold people's attention for long enough to offset the drought.

It's still very weak. Basically it's just Zelda (which will also come out on Wii U).

IMHO for the first months the Switch will just be for fanboys. Then, after it gets a price cut and a few other good titles, will become a very interesting console for everyone.

I was down for just Zelda. Then I saw Bomberman. Then they said Shovel Knight, with Specter Knight's campaign being limited time Switch exclusive. Then I saw Snipperclips is launch now too.

So yeah it's looking pretty good. Don't get why people are calling it shit. Every console launch ever has been shit. What were you expecting, Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5 or something?

BoTW

Shit

Smh

Not everyone likes Zelda.

Since this whole thing is opinion anyway then there's no problem with anyone thinking this is trash or amazing.

Personaly, I don't see a single game there that I ever want to play. But that's fine. I hope people who do enjoy that lineup have a great time with their new console.

The way this happened kinda did a funny thing to me.

At first I was just going to buy Zelda because there was so little else. Then I saw Binding of Isaac was going to be launch day and said, hey, I've still never played that so I'll pick that up. Then I saw 1, 2, Switch discounted on Amazon Prime and preordered that. Then I saw Shovel Knight was coming at launch. And now Snipperclips.

So now I'm going to get 4 games at launch (and BoI whenever it comes) because, since there was so little at first, I had to start really looking for other things to buy. And now I need them all.
