I've really been itching to start playing Infinite Space but...

...I can't bring myself to take it out of the shrink wrap. It's been in my backlog since the day it came out and I just never got around to it. Now I really want to play it but it seems to be pretty rare and valuable. So do I just say screw it and rip it open or do I ride it out and see if it increases in value with age?
 
In the U.K, at least, it isn't too rare. I found a copy for £7.99 about 2 years ago; more recently, I occasionally see them going around £15.
 
I'm the guy who'll always open up whatever so I can enjoy it. Not real big on keep stuff unopened and I played. Anyway is infinite space any good anyway? Platinum game I don't have.
 
Luckily I also own a used copy I bought from Gamestop.
Best of both worlds.

The story is great. Best on DS imo.
Gameplay, eeeeeeeeh.

It's like rock paper scissors. Forever.

This is part of the problem, I feel like Nintendo will never get their act together in terms of downloadable DS games and even if they did, there'd be no telling whether theyd ever put out this game
 
Just buy an euro copy from somewhere. German version is 12-15€ and it's in english. Sell/keep the valuable version.

Seriously. There were a lot of DS games I missed, some at now goofy prices. I don't see it happening any time soon considering how stingy they are with even GBA releases.
 
get the euro version as someone mentioned if you want to keep the shrinkwrapped one

I enjoyed the game, it's definitely cut from the same cloth as the "out there" sort of games we got all the time in the PSX era.
 
Just play it. I don't think that many people really care about a mint copy unopened, just A copy. So its value will still be pretty high after use, especially if you keep it in good condition.

It's a great game that you really can't experience anywhere else.

One of the only games I've ever sold in anger because I got trapped in a spot where I couldn't progress.

Fun game otherwise. Story is neat, gameplay is repetitive though.
 
I bought it day 1, never played it, then loaned it to a friend soon after.

Really need to get it back to give this game a shot, always looked interesting.

Hmmm usually i can put up with meh gameplay so long as the story really is that good.
I'll have to look some more into it.
 
sorry but you're an i.. a not very smart person. I mean really? Do you buy games to play them or as some kind of future investment..
 
Hypothetically speaking, wouldn't it be legal to play a ROM on a flash cart since you own the game? I mean your essentially just playing a backup, although I guess if your intent is to sell it as mint rather than used in the future I suppose its not really ethical even if you did delete the game when you sell it.

You could buy an extra used I guess, not sure what the pricing is like. Honestly if you want to play the game just open it.
 
infinite game is the only game that was so good I wrote the developers a letter praising their game and asking almost pleading for another game in this vein.

just as some mentioned, get it from europe for cheap (its 9€ on amazon.de).

I bought mine 2 years ago for about 7€ there...

You should definitely play it! for me, it was one of the rpg highlights of the last generation (besides XBC ofc).
it's also the best space themed rpg out there.

If you bought a game, never opened it and years down the road it was with a lot more than what you paid I think it would make you an i... a not very smart person to open the copy you have when you could sell your sealed copy, and use a small amount of what you just sold it for to buy it used.
 
OP, I know how you feel. I have a first print run of Radiant Historia that's still sealed that I've been wanting to play. My main hesitation with opening it is if I end up not liking the game, I would have been able to sell it for much more if I had kept it sealed.
 
I would sell the sealed copy relatively soon, if you're really interested in the money to be made from it.

Demand for a sealed copy could pretty easily fall off. Anything could happen, sure, but this doesn't seem to be an Earthbound or an FF7 or a Valkyrie Profile where the game has a really strong fan following to drive the price up. It won't receive the followup that will make latecomers take notice and try to hunt down the first game in order to experience it. It also has an EU version that can be bought for cheap.

There are only a few games where years of holding out has really paid off in a big way. Based on the prices being paid now and the factors mentioned above, I seriously doubt it would be worth waiting "years" to sell it for an additional $30, or even $50. You could have bought other games or done other things with that money in the meantime.

Just keep the opportunity cost in mind, whatever you decide.
 
There sure are a lot of loose copies floating around.
More than likely from gamestop ditching all the DS cases. Still bothers me to no end.

good luck finding someone who actually pays what those collectors think a game is worth just cause it has never been opened. But I guess this is not the right place to start an argument over this. Plus just think what that copy might be worth in 20 years! Who says he won't regret selling it now? He can probably retire from that infinite space money if he just waits a little bit longer!

Keep your wrapped copy sealed.

lol I actually thought to myself that I went a bit overboard with that post. I'm just bored at work, I'm sorry. Still think that sealed game collectors are a weird bunch though. Games are meant to be played.

keep the sealed one sealed and go buy a used copy while they're still affordable

I wish I hadn't opened my copy of Metroid Prime Trilogy. Shit's like 200-300 bucks on Amazon.
 
Keep it sealed. The game sucks. I couldn't believe how cumbersome it was when I first played it after spending ages hunting a copy.

Haha fair enough. My major concern is simply that by chance I've happened to never get around to opening this game and I don't want to open it, play it for a couple of hours, find out I have no interest and then it balloons up to a $300 game for some reason
 
well like someone already said just buy it on amazon.de, shipping shouldn't be too expensive.

edit: 15 euro, seems a bit steep.
 
It's rare enough and good enough that I would keep it wrapped and buy a second one to play. The wrapped one will eventually command top dollar.
