Blunderbuss is definitely unique. It's not just a White Stripes record, it's not a Raconteurs record, it's not a The Dead Weather record. It's a Jack White record. It's a completely new style. It has touches of previous projects...Sixteen Saltines is pretty Stripesy. Some of it has a country flavor, like some Raconteurs stuff does. But Blunderbuss as a whole is all its own. Overall, the album is very lyric driven. You can tell Jack had a lot to say and a lot of express listening to the lyrics. The focus of the lyrics isn't on being catchy and clever, it's about saying something.

I think Freedom at 21 is my favorite track. Absolutely loving it. It's a very different style, beat and vocal melody than we're used to from Jack. Now just to decide whether to buy the vinyl or the CD...

I think I read a review that said the album is constantly surprising, and I think thats a good description. Nothing on the record feels familiar. It's definitely the most complex record he's ever released. Zero filler. Every song it's own little project. You can tell Jack spent quite a bit of time on this. Feels way more accomplished then what we are used to from him.

He looks sad as hell on the album cover.

In the past year or so he got divorced from his wife and the mother of his two kids, and his brother died. So he's definitely had a rough year. As I said before, Blunderbuss is definitely lyrically driven and he has a lot to say on the album.

Only went through the track list twice so my opinion on the album is a little premature.

Really enjoying it though. If it means anything, Get Behind Me Satan is my most listened to White Stripes album.

Listening on Itunes.

I like Jack White. My favorite stuff of his was the late era Stripes, Icky Thump & Get Behind Me Satan.

Didn't know what to expect from this and yet I'm surprised anyways. The production is.....I guess a little more lush than I was anticipating...not quite as rough around the edges as most of his other stuff.

Its really strong.

Been listening to Blunderbuss non-stop and it just keeps growing on me. God damn it Jack, you've done it again. Can't wait to see him live in NYC in May.

It officially comes out tomorrow, folks.

Heh, I can't believe I've listened to this album so many times already considering I don't actually have my copy yet.

I love the fact that it is so key-driven. That is the main reason I love GBSM so much.

Blunderbuss is out in the UK! It will be released in the US tomorrow. I'm glad to see that all of the retailers with ads in the Sunday paper had it featured in their electronics section. Hope it sells well!

CD is always better!
I thought iTunes was going to have some exclusive tracks or content. But after seeing they don't. I will just get CD. I usually like getting both because the CD might have some exclusive content that iTunes might not have and vice versa.

Definitely picking up the CD today, loving the album and I'm dying to see the full playing credits to see who played what (especially if his current tour male-keyboardist, Ikey, is on here somewhere).

Listening to it now via rdio.. sounds like a pretty straightforward Jack White release. I don't expect I'll listen to it again personally.

Of his projects, I like his work with The Raconteurs the most.

Ahh. So great. At far as White Stripes albums, probably reminds me most of De Stijl. Sixteen Saltines is sort of a head fake- definitely not a guitar heavy album.

But some of White's best songwriting IMO.

There's quite a bit that separates Blunderbuss from The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and The Dead Weather. First of all, it's not very guitar centric, most songs are driven by keys outside of Sixteen Saltines and I'm Shakin'. Second, lyrically it comes from a very different place. Jack is actually writing about himself, and expressing himself and it shows. Instead of aiming to be catchy lyrically, there's a lot of emotion and statements. As a whole I think the album is surprisingly unique. And I can't stop listening to it.

I'm digging this. It's enough of a departure. "Love Interruption" sounds very different from a White Stripes song, for example.

The Raconteurs always sounded Benson driven to me, which is fine because I like Benson.

There's so many different sounds. Sixteen Saltines has a Stripes flavor to it but other than that, it's so varied. I'm Shakin' is a cover of a very old rockabilly song. There's definitely some country-esque tracks. Freedom at 21 is something very original, and is an amazing song, the highlight of the album for me. Love Interruption is a great, flat, accoustic track. Missing Pieces and Hypocritical Kiss are two excellently key driven tracks. And some of the later tracks are just all over the place in their sound. I really love closing track when the guitar kicks in. Such a great moment.

I could gush over the album all day and night. Can't wait to see both the live concert on VEVO this Friday, and a live show for myself in NYC in May.

Yeah, I really love the break in Take Me with You When You Go. Jack White with piano backing him up is when I think he is at his best, but both Missing Pieces and Freedom at 21 are really nice as well.

Also, I finally got my copy. Apparently it was delivered earlier in the day but I had to go on an Easter egg hunt to find it. Seems appropriate somehow.

The disc art is pretty cool. Peacocks, man.

I think this record does a better job at synthesizing his influences than almost anything he's done. It's not my favorite album lyrically, but I love it in every other respect. After three listens I think it will last me a while.

EDIT: I hated Raconteurs most of the time Benson was singing. And the second album did next to nothing for me.

CD is always better!

Your turntable's not dead.

Been the #1 album all day today on iTunes. Good sign! I still haven't bought my copy but I have been listening to the previews on iTunes and love it.

You can really tell most of the time with The Raconteurs, which songs Benson wrote. Because they're often the more boring ones. It's not that they're bad, they're just kind of flat. He just isn't interesting. It's not that he's not talented, because he is. He can sing extremely well. He's just kind of flat all around.

I'm still trying to decide if I want to buy the CD or the vinyl. Tough call!

Both for me. I'm not one of those Vault freaks, but close. Very close.

Haha. I'm a Vault subscriber but I still don't know. Vinyl is so limited. While I absolutely love owning TMR's products that are only released on vinyl, when I have the option, and it's something I'm going to want to listen to all the time, CD might take precedent...Although, I already have a CD...

Picked up my physical copy, listened twice today already. So many great tracks, but they're all so different from one another! I'm Shakin' is my favorite right now, but it changes with every listen. Only the most heartless of people could somehow not break a smile during Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy.

I'm Shakin and Poor Boy would have fit right in on a White Stripes Record imo. Same With 16 Saltines. I listened to this today and I'm pretty impressed with it. I like it more than the last 2 WS records. Jack made a great solo album

Off-topic, but it was just announced that Jack will be writing and performing the score for the upcoming film, The Lone Ranger. The film stars none other than...Johnny Depp. Should be pretty interesting.

Damn... that's crazy, but I think it should work well.

I've only listened to the previews of all the songs but I really like this. The guitar work is absolutely fantastic. I really like his lyrical cadence, too.

Just know that the next time we get together, my wife will berate you for not loving this album. I apologize in advance. ;-)

Freedom at 21 is probably my favorite song so far. It's so refreshing to hear Jack use a female drummer that does more than just keep time. It's Carla Azar from Autolux, if anyone is interested. She's amazing and Autolux is a fantastic band.

Not sure how anyone could determine their thoughts on an album after a single listen. I don't get a real grip on what I really like or dislike about something until about three or four listens.

Also, in further response to that earlier Lone Ranger news:

I think this could actually turn out really quite nice. With the sound of Blunderbuss, Jack's Cold Mountain work, Rome (which was mainly just lyrical work, I suppose) and a few select Raconteurs/Dead Weather songs, him going for that supernatural western vibe seems very intriguing.
