No it won't and its already insulting to call this one a "Police Story" movie anyway. The original movies were Cantonese-language Hong Kong movies which were lively, humorous and anything could happen. This new one is not a HK production but a Mandarin-language China-production, heavily subjected to China's censorship rules were even bad guys are not allowed to win and other crazy story rules. Expect utter shit.

Doesn't mean there can't be an international version too sans censorship.

That does mean it because other versions wouldnt be allowed to shoot. A script needs to be cleared with the China authorities first before they can start shooting. This is different to Hong Kong productions were two edits can exist a HK/international one and a China one.

There might or might not be a slightly different international cut but that won't be vastly different then the China one because of the earlier mentioned reasons.

I hated it.
It's probably the worst Jackie film I watched (well, maybe a tad better than The Medallion).
Crappy try hard story, terrible action, incredibly annoying characters.

Terrible action? The Lego store fight scene towards the end is easily the best fight scene he had done since Gorgeous. The rest of his output since the late 90's has been devoid of anything worthwhile, fight-wise. The Medallion, now that is pretty terrible.

Not sure why people are down on the fact he's doing the occasional gritty movie these days. I'm all for it. For years he would only do the same kind of movie, not too violent, with the usual slapstick. They were good movies, but variety is nice too!

And i mean, He's 59 now, he just can't do what he used to and make movies with 15 minute long fight scenes

While i haven't seen a lot of his recent output (Slackness on my part) this looks pretty interesting to me!

And lastly, it's been pretty common in the past in china to name new movies as sequels when they don't even share a single recurring character, it's just a marketing thing to get people to see it.

Seriously. Dat fight scene!!!
This movie is hilarious and remains one of my favorite JC movies. Thought the last time I watched it was more than 10 years ago. I really should rewatch it soon.
As for the new new police story...meh... why the gritty cop drama? Why must it always be gritty cop drama these days (decades?!)...sigh...

Super brofist. It's got the perfect mix of fun and action. And yes, the dub music is amazing. Sammo and Yuen Biao are top notch in this, too.

That's not the point. It's the fact that he's now left Hong Kong cinema went to Beijing, and sold his soul to China and only makes censored, mandarin-spoken, diluted nationalist China crap, instead of returning to Hong Kong to make something that approaches his former standards of quality.

I don't know, I thought the trailer looked incredible! It looks more like Crime Story than Police Story, though. I LOVE Crime Story, so I have no problem with this. I can't wait to see this!

He has been outspoken on making more serious & acting focus films for years.

Besides HK cinema is all it's made out to be.
Before he made Snake In The Eagles Shadow, he made about 2 dozen films in less than 8 years & he was too embarrassed to even associate his name with them.
Golden Harvest Studios WAS classic Jackie.

Jackie Chan films are popcorn entertainment at best. None of his films ever had any depth or serious tone to them anyways. Seriously who goes to watch a Jackie Chan film for his stories? If this movie turns out to be shit it's due to his inability to perform the same action choreography and stunts in his youth and less likely the work of sarft.

Honestly, his movies were in decline even before he started teaming up with China. Wasn't New police story a Hong Kong film? That movie was worse than his mainland films. I'm not a big fan of his China work but at least they were never as offensive as his Hollywood produced movies.

This is released on Tuesday here in China, so I'll be going to see it on Christmas day (Or Christmas Eve if I can get out the office early) I'm going in with low expectations so I won't be too disappointed. It should have some good action scenes anyway. Will post impressions after I've seen it.

Problem is Hong Kong no longer makes films that approach his former standards.

Such a lovely film. Glad to see Wheels on Meals getting support in this thread. That opening training sequence has been my life.

Wait a minute.. Is this related to Dragons Forever? Practically the same cast.. Dragons Forever is my favorite Jackie Chan movie

Its not really Police Story if he's not playing a HK cop. I don't think they should've associate this movie the Police Story franchise.

He's really in decline anyways. He's getting old and can't do the crazy stunts anymore, even if he wanted to.

They don't hold back when it comes to fucking up the police. Police Story is crazy in that sense.

Yeah, even the kind nature spirit of the early movies, they still had some sick violent shit in them. Like Jackie Chan's girlfriend's face being smashed through the glass in the first movie.
That glass was made up of twice the layer that normal breakaway glass is made up of & it looked brutal.

Watched this yesterday. Didn't feel like a Police Story. Clichéd dad/daughter relationship plot (she feels neglected because he puts in all his time into work) plot. Most of the movie happens in tight places so you don't get the use of space and the objects in them when it comes to fight scenes. Mostly very short fighting scenes for Jackie with a middle one that was slightly brutal. The tension is fairly badly manufactured and comes off as being funny at times rather than engaging or filled with trepidation. Jackie is also not some kind of super cop this time (probably good given his age) and the focus is really more on how Jackie tries to save people via negotiations (albeit with risky behavior at times) and his willingness to sacrifice for the bad guys. One silly and contrived twist at the end of the film.

Jackie Chan needs to stop screwing around and make Rush Hour 4 already. Just saw 2 last night and it was so entertaining. The 3rd one was crap, but I would still like to see a 4th.

Chris Tucker and him make a great team.

This looks great. Even if the plot, dialogue, and other actors end up horrible, Jackie looks great in this. I'm excited.

Saw this the other day but forgot to update. It's not a Police Story movie at all apart from having Jackie Chan in it and a blooper reel at the end. It's not a bad film though, just not deserving of the name. The shakeycam, 3D, product placement and no doubt Chinese government supported heavy handed moralizing lines from Jackie were sore points for me.

I don't remember the last time Jackie Chan made a decent movie.

Little Big Soldier was released 2010. When I watched Chinese Zodiac on its release in China it seemed to me the people loved the movie. If I am not mistaken it was also one of the most successful movies in China ever. I partly enjoyed it, CGI could have been better, but it had its moments. Too bad it wasn´t very similar to the old ones. What would I give for traditional Adventure movies with locations that haven´t been used again and again in Hollywood movies.

Perhaps I am going off topic, but a few days ago I was in Lübeck (Germany) and in some of these streets and beautiful locations I just had the wish that Jackie would do a movie there. Just seemed to me like it was made for good hide and seek action:

Jackie was also in Shaolin, though just as a side-character.

I have to say though I enjoy his chinese/HK-movies a lot more than the american ones. Chinese Zodiac felt like an american one though.
