Jade Empire is free on Origin

I continously have to try to remind myself to login before 2 years pass just so I won't lose the games I got on fhere

I've been waiting so long for a sequel. I remember playing this game and having a incredible time with it, will download it the second it becomes free.

edit: wait so it ended?! wtf

i was always put off by the fake chinese characters and voices. like, why not just use actual chinese, instead of hiring a linguist to create something that non-chinese speakers will be none the wiser to? super weird approach.

Same reason they make up languages in European based fantasy rather than using real ones.

Because the fake chinese languages purpose is to save money on voice acting by allowing them to endlessly repeat the same lines.

Awesome game. It and KOTOR were two of my favorite games on the xbox. Bioware sure knows how to make those great games.

Would love to see this as aBC game on XB1, if they ever get OG Xbox BC working.

so,how good is this game by today's standards?

It's all right. It has several things going for it and a few things going against it.

The action combat doesn't hold up at all. It's really really bad. But a lot of quests have non-combat solutions.

The game is short, which is both a good and bad thing. It's a relatively small game with focused, meaningful side quests, but the characters aren't as fleshed out as other BioWare games and the plot feels a bit rushed.

Closed Fist is fucking hardcore.

Got it to work; thanks for the thread bump :D!

It just recently went free actually. The funny part is the Origin version works perfectly for me with no work around, and the steam version needs to be messed with in order for me to get it to even launch.

Yeah, they got away with it in KOTOR with the aliens and for some reason thought that same technique wouldn't be incredibly off-putting with a game clearly inspired by Chinese culture.

I'm playing KOTOR now and it's hilarious how you can just let them keep talking forever. "JAMA JU GA BA LATU MA GU BA BLALU MOGO MATU WA WA GOLO" into infinity.

The one that will be forever ingrained is the female alien voice saying "MOOKA SHAKA BAKA"

Also it has the best villain of any Bioware game. And a plot actually based upon actual human evil.

Mike Laidlaw and Luke should write another game.

I think 90 percent of my Origin account is free games at this point.

Another 5 percent is games I bought on Steam that had cd keys you could unlock in Origin

So the Origin version is basically a fixed version for modern PCs? I have it on Steam but was frustrated when I reinstalled it a few months ago and realised it didn't work anymore.

like 99% of my origin games were free except for one...kinda, it was a Christmas gift from someone from k-ongaf

I downloaded it and have it working on Windows 10, however, using an Xbox One gamepad has issues at least for me. Keyboard and mouse work fine.

The gamepad works great during the tutorial and then when you drop into the game, the view starts to spin round and round and will not stop. no go after calibration.

Ironically the Deluxe Edition for The Sims 2 they were giving away before required 6 or so altered lines in the .ini to get out of 800x600 res and make changing the graphics options actually do anything. You'd figure EA would tweak it and re-upload it. Took me all of 2 minutes to fix it so kinda surprised they haven't. It's been that way for as long as I've seen it on the store too.
