Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier Screenshots

Aching to know more than the basic facts Sony's been nice enough to dole out? Well, as luck would have it, IGN is going to have the first look at the title this afternoon. That's right, scope out IGN PSP or IGN PS2 around 3 p.m. PST today, and your socks should be rocked.
Should be in like 45 minutes:D

And yeah, they're PSP screenshots

The screenshots shown are from the PSP version.

I do like Shu Yoshida , Phil just crippled poor SCEWWS ( especially Japan Studio ) and killed both PSP and PS2 when he wasted sony's money on shit like Heavenly sword ( $20 million ) and LAIR ( $20 million ) instead of focusing on SCEWWS studios to support PS3 , when Shu are trying to revive PSP and PS2 and get more games to PS3 too , even the current situation in Japan with SCEJ and Japanese third party is way better than Phil's era .

hell even his policy on the exclusive extra on late ports is doing magic , I fucking like this man .

The only problem I have with both of them is why do some SCEE or SCEA developed games never make it out in Japan (Singstar, Buzz, EyeToy, MLB The Show) and some SCEJ games never make it out in the west (Aquatopia, Afrika)?

There have been reports that Lair was Kutaragi's doing. Phil was also responsible for landing stuff like LBP and Heavy Rain. So he definitely knew what he was doing.

I wonder wtf is Kutaragi up to these days

PlayStation father Ken Kutaragi is preparing for a new line of work. While still carrying the "Honorary Chairman" title for Sony Computer Entertainment, he'll soon add to that the title of "Visiting Professor."

Kutaragi will be heading up a course for MBA students at Tokyo's Ritsumeikan University, the Nikkei Sangyou Shimbun newspaper reported earlier in the week. His term of stay will be one year ending March 2010.

The IGN preview should be up anytime now. I'm looking forward to seeing what they say. I really want them to nail the feel of a Jak game.

well , PSP and PS2 are port friendly and SCEWW have enough small 1st party and 3rd party teams to cover PSP and PS2 , so why just put games on PSP when they can make cheap ports to PS2 as well ?

but they should put a PSN version as well for PSP/PS2 projects , since PSP/PS2 projects ( MotorStorm , Jak..ect ) won't hit 1.2 GB limit it will very good for PSN , and by that PSP , PS2 and PS3 owners will be happy .

What? Heavenly Sword was a good game, and Phil's attitude towards independent studios is what lead to games like LBP, Patapon, and others. And Lair theoretically should've been good. Nobody expected such a good developer like Factor 5 to make a game like Lair.

And I'm pretty sure that policy concerning extra content has been in place for quite some time.

I think the preview for The Lost Frontier sounds pretty cool. I wish we could see some footage. The guy writing the article seems to think it looked pretty good graphically. I'm glad they're working close to ND, so, they can really nail the feel of a Jak game.

I would feel more comfortable if it was Ready at Dawn doing this since its PSP/PS2. I didn't really enjoy Ratchet and Secret Agent Clank.

And yea, keepin with the trend of "Jak on PS3!" :(

Since Ratchet and Jak now have installments, why can't Sly Cooper get one? I'd even be fine with a PSP port of the first one with extras.

I know they're busy with Infamous but I want one anywaaaaaaay.

I think in order for Sly to appear on PSP, SCEA would need a developer who is close to Sucker Punch and can do cel-shading well.

Still don't believe it.

I'll wait until tomorrow to see if a "follow up" story emerges.
Greg Miller at IGN just did a preview, where he played it.

Two new screens:

Well, Greg said he didn't play it, but that he saw a demo. But still could they really do a preview like that and it be fake.

This shit hurts Sony worse than MS hurts themselves by releasing their first part stuff on both the 360 and pc (which they've thankfully stopped doing).

The ps2 is on its way out. They want people buying psps and ps3s, but they're not doing enough to convince (a really good amount of) people to do so.

Microsoft, do not listen to this man. Please... Is anyone listening?! :(

I dunno, the screens look fine to me. Secret Agent Clank may have been meh, but I liked Size Matters, so perhaps this'll turn out nicely.

Jak & Daxter looks better to me than the previous HIG efforts on psp:

- Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters

I'll play the PS2 version..it has the better controller for 3D games.

I do wish it was a J&D game that would go back to good 'ol J&D1. Lose the guns and go back to fun platforming goodness not set in the future!

Just read the IGN preview. This is taking place between Jak 3 and Jak X? I didn't think there was much of a story there to explore.
Yeah, that doesn't make sense to me either. they do say it happens shortly after Jak 3. I'm betting they messed up on that detail and it's really after Jak X. Not sure though. I mean there wasn't any sign Keira having made an attempt to be a sage in Jak X which the PR for this one inferred she would have.

Edit: Also, people are making too much of the graphics I think. Those comparisons posted above seem to show they about on par with those other games. I mean once we see it moving it may look better. Disappointment may come from comparisons to Jak 3 I imagine.

A little disappointed it's not a PS3 title like many others here but I'm thrilled that a new Jak & Daxter game is even being made! I hope to one day see the franchise get a release on PS3. :D

not that I hate the first J&D, but by now, people asking for the original J&D may as well be asking for new ip. after 5 games (6 with this one) in the series and only one is set not in futuristic setting, you think people will realize what define Jak and Daxter series now.

It's a shame they didn't start out development on the PS2 and port it down to the PSP. It would have really benefited graphically, I imagine.

for that they need to remove all Jak powers and abilities , so unless it's a prequel ( and with no cute Daxter ) or they should do huge thing to the story and that only ND can do .

plus Amy's Jak 3 is the best one anyway , the should aim to that game .

Wow. It seems most people around the net are upset by this. Even people on Jak fansites and Jak-specific forums. It's madness. You'd think they'd be happy about getting new Jak and Daxter. I really think it seems promising. I'm not too keen on the sounds of the powers. I'd prefer just having the light/dark eco powers similar to the other games, but everything else seems pretty good. Upgrading weapons with different types of eco seems cool. The plot seems interesting enough as does the area where the game takes place. It seems Keira will play a significant role. The controls don't even seem that bad. I imagine it's similar to the PS2 games, but you use triangle to shoot and both triggers to roll (and do the long jump). I mean sure I'd rather have a PS3 game by ND. But this is nice in the meantime. Graphics could be better, but it seems according to IGN it looked better in motion. I enjoyed the Hellcat cruiser mission from Jak 3 so those flying missions in this one could be cool. Oh well. It seems me and about five people on the planet are optomistic about this one.

Of course, after 2 games on PSP, one can believe that their technology improves with every game :lol I'm really looking forward this game, I would have prefered if Ready at Down handeld the game, but it's not like High Impact sucks either. I have yet to play Secret Agent Clank though, is it as great as the first one? ^^

people are always beeing negative... dont worry about it. PS2 is dying but it is still going strong... last quarter, PS2 games, while 50% down in sales, made more revenue for EA than PSP, PC and DS games. I am pretty sure that Sony realized their mistake of cutting of PS2 development too early, as people still buy PS2, especially in countries where next gen is too expensive.

WOW, I thought this was vaporware! :O

Really odd that High Impact's making this one, that's like Insomniac making a Crash or Jak game themselves.

I just bought the original and Sly 1 on PS2 for $4.44 each at the Canadian Superstore, haven't played them just yet, but I've already played Jak II, I'm enjoying it! I also got Jak III not long ago for $5 as well!

Amazing that you can get these great PS2 games for dirt-cheap prices these days!

Looks fake.

And why would Sony pick today of all days to announce it if it was supposedly legit?

Really don't think so because, on the playstation blog they said in the comment section that this was not a april's fool thing and to keep a look out for IGN coming with something for us very soon.

This might have been the end of March announcement? Anyhow you'd think it'd be more exciting with a Jak game, but eh.

I never really liked how the Jak series started using guns after the first game, made it stand to close to Ratchet imo. I do have a soft spot for generic platformers though (bought and played through Haven) so I'm a bit slanted. :\

Still, it's nice to see the series continue. maybe there will be a back-to-basics game some time down the line.

pf Jak 2 was anything but a generic platformer...it just had variety...pure platforming bores me to tears though...

Anyway, I want a ps3 game, but this interests me alot more than daxter did...still haven't played more than 10 mins of that game
