A sequel to a mediocre game is underperforming, color me surprised. I just hope that it's relatively poor sales doesn't affect the rest of Blizzard's catalogue. Game should have never been on the Battle.Net client.
Destiny was probably the biggest game this gen on my personal friends list. There's still a good amount of people playing Destiny 2 on it, but the number seems considerably lower. There are even some diehard Destiny fans that haven't played it yet on my list. I'm talking people with 1000+ hours on the first one.
You're an idiot.Good to see the Japanese know better than supporting racism.
Destiny 2 still has the shitty time gated progress with weekly reset on endgame gear.
You are lying.
Turns out lots of people were not interested in a game only worth playing one day a week when loot resets.
Are digital numbers included? All my friends prefer to have D2 on their console all the time
Maybe Japanese players prefer to play on PC instead
Conversely, these threads are littered with shouts of "digital!!!!" when all available evidence points to a large drop in multiple markets.
The beta was 1 mission LMAO.
No...so to be honest, none of these doomsaying threads on D2's sales really add up to much I reckon without taking into account both retail and digital.
Once digital has been counted in, then the true comparisons can start: 2014 was a very different time to now in terms of digital sales. Also the PC factor is big here; Comparing PS4 only to PS4+PS3 is super unfair: PS4+PC vs PS4+PS3 is more like it.
What in particular did you not like about it? Just curious. For Destiny fans TTK was a revelation on what the game really should have been from launch. It was filled to the brim with neat content, quality of life improvements, and a fantastic raid. TTK was really a fix for people that claimed "I didn't like Destiny 1 because of the grind and poor quality of life mechanics," it was never going to fix people that just disliked the game play. Same with Destiny 2. It is still the same game, just streamlined experience.
Okay, let me compare Destiny 2 PS4+PC to Destiny 1 PS4+PS3.
Destiny 1 PS4: 90k
Destiny 1 PS3: 50k
Destiny 2 PS4: 50k
Destiny 2 PC: 0k
It's really weird seeing the absolute glee people react with when a game doesn't do as well as (insert success metric here).
Exactly: Until the PC sales are posted for that week one, then it's a void comparison.
So you're allowed to just shit post as long as it's trolling? The dude is beating that joke like a dead horse.
Sure, but getting digital numbers in and seeing it selling roughly the same as Destiny could not really be spun as a major feat. Half a billion dollars of investment in a franchise occurs for growth. It is possible the North American market reacts differently and does see an increase in sales. Or it is possible that this is a Watch Dogs 2 scenario and the first game being overhyped/undercooked hurts the follow up. We will know soon enough.No...so to be honest, none of these doomsaying threads on D2's sales really add up to much I reckon without taking into account both retail and digital.

You must be clueless if you think Weekly resets are scummy,
There's no one doing public's and some of these heroics are hard solo. Destiny 2 is really fun tho (besides the MP). But I definitely understand why some didn't buy it.
It's the sort of anti-consumer shit f2p games do to drag out their content.
Players should be free to do Nightfall, Raid etc back to back to back and get loot every time.
Not log in Tuesday after reset, do them once and sit with thumb up arse until next reset.
By this logic, all MMOs are scummy because they have weekly resets.
I think the beta also had a negative effect. No loot, mostly same enemies from Destiny 1, strike wasn't anything spectacular, very slow charges on all abilities and supers. PVP was much improved in my opinion from D1, but I think it is a fact the majority of Destiny players play for PvE.
Is it? You could just fill in the blanks. Do you expect the PC version to sell more than the PS4 one?
No? Then the decline still exists. And it's still pretty notable. The existence of the PC version does not defeat the purpose of the thread nor the comparison.
Is Destiny an MMO? Again if it is, I'm still trying to figure out why everyone is putting so much faith on the PC crowd. Again Destiny 2 on PC is being hosted on Battle.Net, Blizzard's own digital platform. Said platform that also hosts WoW.
Why play a game that takes MMO elements and executes them poorly when you can play the other game on the same client being advertised to give you a full and better MMO experience? Current MMO players on WoW aren't going to jump on Destiny 2 beyond a first glance.
Destiny is nothing like WoW, it's pretty much it's own genre these days.

I don't get this relation.
It has a full campaign, quests,challenges, strikes,raids,crucible,ect..
The resets are to keep the community active.
What more do you expect?

Blizzard games are known for their quality and polish, yes even Diablo 3. Bungie's IP of Destiny hasn't shown me much in being worthy to be published alongside Blizzard's mutliple franchises.
Hm? I assume you mean in Japan, no one is doing public events?
Shitty ones do, but there are a lot of shitty MMOs.
Thats fine, but its shown me a ton of quality and polish thus far on the ps4 version and what was played of the PC beta especially when compared to some of Blizz's games.
That's fine and dandy for you, everyone has their subjective tastes, even me. But so far with current numerical sources (as evidenced by this thread) the title is underperforming to its predecessor, I will continue to hold that opinion due to my own biases until a reliable statistic can come forth. But, again, Destiny 2, to me, is a current blight on the Battle.Net roster where every other title on that list never had any indication of underperformance at launch."Exceeding expectations" has been the Blizzard reputation for all its titles, does Destiny 2 match that? So far no.
I mean in NA. It's cool tho they're not hard and it's easier to get them to reset.
Does that mean you don't have time for most RPGs?
Shitty ones do, but there are a lot of shitty MMOs.
