Jason Statham reunited with Jet Li in War... oh yeah Devon Aoki is there too....

My least favorite Jet Li movie would be Born to Defense followed VERY closely The Master... ugh.

The Crank hate is strong with GAF now eh. I love the expectations people have for movies, that everything needs to follow these boring, narrow conventions or get blasted for it. OH NOES IT'S UNREALISTIC AND HAS BAD VISUAL EFFECTS....right. Almost all hollywood action movies fit those criteria.

I bet you think Commando sucks too. Hell, you could maybe attack Commando for not being *intentionally* hilarious (even though you'd be an idiot), but not Crank. Crank knows what it's doing and is balls-out awesome for it.

Dood if you watch the bullet magazine that Arnold is hold when he's shooting the machine gun you can see it keeps getting longer and shorter during different camera cuts!!!!

Wasn't Statham's role in The One pretty small? I don't even remember him in that.

Small? No, he isn't the lead character but his supporting character gets alot of camera time in the 2nd half of the movie.

here is a shot of her in the bathing suit scene

What kind of movie does a person who hates Crank go to see when they want to have FUN at a movie theater? Seriously, the movie was a thrill ride, hilarious throughout. I don't know how you can't see it for what it is.

This movie looks pretty ballin, Statham V Li, the action looks great, can't wait.

The Transporter, Transporter 2, the Blade films, just about anything not called "Crank."

Crank was complete garbage.

It amuses/amazes me that you can consider Transporter 2 to be operating on some kind of superior tier to Crank. For me Crank works so much better because it's far less apolagetic about how ridiculous it is. It presents everything in such an over-the-top fashion that you have no choice but to view it as a live-action cartoon. Transporter 2, on the other hand, seems to skitter along in a kind of reality "uncanny valley" where you're never entirely sure if you're meant to be taking it seriously or not. If Statham in Crank had spun a car off a ramp, done a 360 twirl in mid-air to snag the bomb attached to the car's engine onto a crane hook right before it detonates and then continue twirling around for a perfect landing, I would have bought that because I've already bought into a hyper-real world that bears no resemblance to our own. When he did it in Transporter 2 it never sat quite right because it was an utterly absurd act committed in a world that was otherwise played fairly straight.

I cant wait for this movie.

The Reason Crank sucked comapred to transporter movies was simply because the action was not done as well.

I dont think much of the Transporter movies either ....but they definately had better action.

arguing about Crank and The Transporter is like arguing whether Burger King or McDonalds has a better bacon cheeseburger.
Can't we all just get along with our diverse tastes in cinematic junk food?
Resident Evil: Apocalypse is awesome, really it is.

and I'm excited to see an R-rated Jet Li/Statham throwdown with a big budget and Corey Yuen-action scenes. How is that not a recipe for success?

Agreed. I can enjoy Transporter 2, but especially in my first viewing I was put off by scenes like that. Although maybe if the original Transporter had kept the rocket deflection scene that was in the trailer, their tones would be similar and the sequel would have an easier time getting away with scenes like the car flip. Maybe.

Transporter 2 has an extremely weak non-climax that drags it down a couple notches, too.

Because it involves Yuen Kwai. Meaning the choreography will either be hackneyed or ripped off.

Oh god does it.... besides the fact that some of the stunt car CG sequences don't look that hot, the ending is incredibly crappy.

When we are introduced to the boss we see him training using a kendo shinai fending over multiple attackers... KENDO SHINAI UPPERCUT!!!! And so you figure ok this guy is good with a sword that means in the final fight we'll see him go against Statham with either kendo shinai or a full on sword... what do we get intead? A lame spinning fight inside an out of control jet.

BOOOOOOOOO

Who the hell thought that was a suitable ending?

EDIT: I'm a bit confused karasu, the previous poster says they are looking forward to Corey Yuen scenes and then you say don't bother because it's a Yuen Kwai fight. But the poster already said they like Corey's fights.....

Don't be confused. He asked how could it not be a recipe success, so I gave him my take.

Alrighty, well I've always found your take a bit.... rigid. It just seems if the guy already likes Corey's stuff he's probably going to like it again in War.

I like them two together...should be great fun!!

Your analogy fails sir...burgers at McDonalds are even more disgusting than the rest of their food.

Jet Li and Yuen Wo Ping!

Well, holy f*cking crap, it is them!

The glasses and hat threw me off and damn...Wo Ping gained an extra bit of weight there didn't he?

Still, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, and Wo Ping....well that's just insane!

The first time both Jackie and Jet will work together is exciting enough as is.....but it's been like over 20 years since Jackie and Wo Ping worked together who each developed their own action styles...I think my mind is going to blew up at the thought at what these two could do together. I just hope they give them as much time and control as they need and the director stays the hell out of the way for the action sequence requirements.

Well I don't consider KotD a guilty pleasure, I just straight out like that movie. I know most folks don't think highly of The One though so thats why I call it a guilty pleasure.

and its in a family-friendly action film directed by the guy who did Stuart Little. Its like the result of some Faustian bargin.

and as much as I trust Karasu's very good taste, I'm going to have to disagree with him here. Everything we know so far points to it being a kick in the pants. And Corey Yuen 'Kwai' isn't foolproof(Cradle 2 the Grave, Romeo Must Die), but can produce when given the chance (Kiss of the Dragon, Le Transporteur).
and the release was never delayed, it was always ment for Labor Day, which has seen the last two years with a Jason Statham movie open on that date.

The family friendly thing doesn't really bother me though. Jet's period movies aren't too violent anyway, and Jackie hasn't been really violent since the 80's. The Stuart Little thing is a little worrisome, but maybe he'll stick to wide angles and invisible editing.
