Sorry, i don't like faulty hardware. Congrats to all the people who bought a second 360 because "they couldn't wait for replacement", that's how you legitimate those things.

Yeah, it sucks, but it's the games. Hell, the best part about game installs under NXE for me is the end of Disc Read Errors from my POS DVD drive. Well, one of the best parts.

Well it's a lot safer than Xenon/Zephyr, most of the problems were fixed, and the failure rate is probably not even close to the one of the older models.

I thought the last iteration got rid of RROD, but even with Jasper it sounds like it's still a possibility. It's probably never going to go away completely but the days of 30% failure rate are behind us at least.

Xenons (the original mobo/chips) seemed to have a ridiculous failure rate of 80%+ according to anecdotal reports (games press seem to report 80-90% failure of launch units among themselves), since there's almost no one left with a launch 360 that works, and most people who bought one before Zephyr seem to have hit the RRoD as well.

It's safe to assume that any Xenon and Zephyr is a ticking time bomb, although it's entirely likely that some of them will never break, but I would wager that 50%+ of them will.

Falcons seem to be single digit % RRoD, a HUGE improvement given that there's barely been any reports of them failing. If Jasper improves on that to a more standard consumer electronics number of <3%, then I think it's safe to say the RRoD is no longer a serious concern.

My Xbox 360 (Xenon) broke once after 1 year. My refurb has now survived longer than my original console. If it breaks after Nov.2009, I'll probably just buy an Arcade (which should be $149 by then) and slap my 20gb HDD on it.

Pretty low standards. I've never had a console completely die on me. I'm hopeful Jasper will have that kind of track record.

The DVD drive still sits directly on top of the GPU heatsink. Shrinking the die will help overall heat output, but having the drive obstruct airflow like that isn't smart.

Being able to install games to the HDD and not having to spin the disk all the time should help with any extra heat from the disk drive. Airflow would still be affected, as you said, though.

Quality models aren't really the issue so much as the 10 million+ people who likely have flawed hardware in their homes with MS only repairing said flawed hardware and recycling the issue over and over while nothing is done about it.

If I was someone looking to buy a system I'd easily do it now. With the knowledge you have you can generally avoid any problems if your smart. Memory cards to save critical saves along with a warranty would mean there is pretty much no inconvenience other than walking to the store and replacing it on the same day. That plus newer models are generally a lot more reliable anyway.

Again the problem is for the people that have these consoles in their houses right now. MS is shitting on them with their refurb and repair strategy. I recently sent a complaint to BBB about them. Not sure if it'll do anything but I might as well have done it.

All non-HDMI models get non-HDMI models back. Zephyr has HDMI, so I don't know what you'll get back. I'm not sure how it works.
