Hey everyone,

I wanted all of you to be some of the first to know that I've made an important decision about my future, and how that decision will affect the future of Diablo.

I recently celebrated my seven-year anniversary working on Diablo III, and while it's been one of the most challenging and rewarding periods of my life, I've reached a point creatively where I'm looking forward to working on something new. The powers that be at Blizzard have been gracious enough to give me that opportunity. Over the course of the next several weeks, I will be moving off of the Diablo III project and transitioning elsewhere within Blizzard. This decision was not an easy one for me, and not one I made quickly, but ultimately it's what I feel is right.

The first thing I want to assure you all is that this will not negatively impact our ongoing support of Diablo III. The game was not made by one person, far from it, and the team that poured their passion and considerable talent into it isn't going anywhere. We have lots of things planned for the future, and those plans will carry forward as normal. I also won't be abandoning the team, and will remain available to them during the transition period while we determine who will take over duties as game director.

To that point, you shouldn't be surprised if you see a job posting for a game director on Diablo III, as we want to make sure we explore every opportunity to find the best possible leadership for the project. We're looking forward to finding this person and hearing what kind of fresh ideas they can bring to the table.

"The Thrall statue needs an extra coat of polish, Jay... get on it."

I fail to see how he can possibly feel Diablo 3 was a rewarding career endeavor when he worked for 7 years on it, and then the fans completely shit on him.

Fuck that loser.

With this thing failing as epically as it did (not sales-wise, but game-wise) it's about time they kicked him out. Also, the facebook thing didn't help. I'll never understand why anyone posts anything relevant to his/her career on FB.

Does sound like he knows he can't really do the job nor really understood the game he'd been director of. Maybe hes matured and lost the arrogance a bit? We'll see.

Wonder if there was any pressure involved there. Maybe they want to tie a new name to the expansion?

At any rate, I hope we see Titan at this year's blizzcon. This will be the game that makes or breaks blizzard for me.

Not even seeing the game through its first expansion pack after shipping the best selling launch PC game ever.

Fucking brutal.

Jay Wilson will remain my target of ire for repeatedly demonstrating that he doesn't know a god damn thing about the series that he helped run into the ground. He did a terrible job, both as an influence on the direction of Diablo 3 and a public liaison.

I am actually less mad that Diablo 3 was a trainwreck than I am that this man was paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to develop it.

Sounds like he's moving on entirely from Diablo 3. So if they ever make an expansion, he probably won't be involved? Maybe they can get someone actually capable on it! Might be decent! :P

Wow, things were just starting to come together, too. You'd think he'd at least stay until the game's finished.

Exactly, I see this as a good thing. I enjoyed the game but I think the expansion can take it from good to great. Wilson also had that infamous highly unprofessional moment that GAF will never allow him to forget, so I'm fine with him moving on.

Hopefully they bring someone in who isn't afraid of stepping on any toes and do some significant changes.

See you 2015 for the first expansion.

Jeez, Poor Jay :lol

GL and HF in whatever you end up doing, Jay. Hopefully it is better suited to your talents than Diablo.

D3 is the worst Diablo, but it's not a shitty game.

just curious, does anyone even play any more?

I played like 60-70 hours but then there was really nothing else to do. Are people still selling shit on the auction house? I can't believe anyone would still be playing the exact same content with no PVP or other randomized fun encounter at this point.

Unnamed project? I'm only aware of the following game teams:

1) WoW
2) Starcraft 2
3) Diablo 3
4) Titan

he said "elsewhere"

meaning they dont know where to put him. Where do you go from being a game director? They've already got game directors for the other franchises. He'll probably become a level designer or something on Titan.

What I loved about Diablo III was that it went from running fine on my computer to running like shit after a patch. Yay!

Stopped playing and caring after that point.
