Gotta make up the hours

god dammit gwb

Don't Americans already work more hours than many other comparatively developed nations? I remember the Italian guy seated next to me on a flight being surprised that I could take three weeks off to visit Japan, which is oddly enough another workaholic nation. Sheesh.

I'd be cool with the option to work over 40 hours with OT if I wanted to, or at least the option to work 4 10 hour days instead of 5 8 hour ones.

That said I don't think that's what he was implying with his statement.

political suicide? lol

Let's be real: a GOP candidate could come on live TV, stare straight into the camera, and tell everyone that they're lazy idiots, he hates <insert ethnic group here>, and that he's going to take away all of their benefits because reasons, and republican voters would still line up to vote for them.

Love my job, and don't mind doing 10-12 hrs of OT here and there to help pay for big vacations or what have you, for my family.

But yeah, I'd rather get paid more and have more time with them honestly. Sorry Jeb.

Some Republicans just won't be happy till we win the race to the bottom against places like China. Abolish Unions, abolish minimum wage, give corporations more power and now longer work hours. Yup.

Now let's not derail the thread and start talking about Donald Trump.

Bold faced lies go over well with his base. People not likely to understand how much productivity has risen, and how wages have been left behind.

And not always despite what the candidate said.

Honestly, we should move towards a 6-hour work day.

If I focused, I could get the same amount of work done in that amount of time. Distractions, pacing yourself out, mandatory lunch, and other things are why work takes 8-9 hours.

It's not a matter of productivity. It's a matter of making the time count. Oh, and getting folks to care about their jobs.

If anything people should work fewer hours. France knows what's up. We shouldn't have to spend the majority of our lives working, we should spend way more time actually enjoying life.

The reason a lot of people aren't working more is because businesses across the country have cut hours to move employees to part-time status.

What's the asterisk by W.'s name for? Unless both him and Obama are serving their second terms simultaneously.

they're comparing obama's time up until that count was taken to the same amount of time in gwb's presidency. clinton and reagan's numbers are the total amount through both terms.

No, it's a matter of getting a fair wage and benefits for the work that you do, which companies have been shaving off, and the government has been bending over backwards to make sure they can. The working conditions for the average American are absurd compared to other developed nations, and his solution is to tack on more hours? I almost like his brother better.

How about adjusting compensation nationwide to account for the huge gap between wages/productivity that has developed over the last 4 decades before insisting that people be even more ways to be productive?

Well in his defence, some Americans still have an hour or two wasted on family time every day. I mean, c'mon lazy people.

You do realize that a lot of people get paid by the hour, right?

Republican candidates are always so amusing.

Let see the data suggest productivity different from working long hours, the data even suggest the opposite relation...so how about nope

This seems similar to McCain's gaffe in 2006. "People won't pick lettuce in Arizona for $50 per hour" So out of touch with reality it hurts. I'm not sure he ever lived that down.

Burning cart before the horse. How about you tell us how you'll get the jobs back before you crack the whip.

It was just a matter of time. I can't fault him too much, most Americans, especially union workers, typically respond positively when called lazy.

8 hours workdays are a relic from the the industrial revolution.

It made sense to work long hours since it was directly correlated to the amount of widgets you can produce.

However, a lot of today's knowledge work is more fluid.

And this is yet another example of how that "both parties are the same" nonsense is bullshit. Americans already spend way too much damn time working as it is (most people for much less money than they should be making) while the people born into money talk about how lazy everyone is. Get the fuck outta here.

Guy that claims to be pro-family wants parents working more hours which means they'll spend even less times with their kids.
He can seriously go fuck himself. Asshole.
