Jeb Bush: People Need to Work Longer Hours

Sadly this isn't what he's saying. He's flat out telling everyone to work more hours every day as he claims it will increase productivity thus stimulating the economy.

Anyone who has ever worked a 12+ hour shift can tell you that you're certainly not productive by the end, only tired. And no Jeb, downing Red Bulls and doing cocaine isn't the answer to keeping people awake and productive. That would lead to something called death, which isn't very productive...

But ayy fuck me right for not being born into a wealthy family, I deserve to work mandatory longer shifts.

I don't know what the total take home message here is. That said, I am passionate about my job and will happily spend additional time frequently to work on skunk-works like projects and will down red bulls and monsters by choice. The projects or new paradigms we explore are quite interesting, valuable, and applicable to our core jobs and products.

I kinda see Jeb's comments as finding passion and excitement in a job, career, what have you, where you're excited about and willing to put in additional time rather than just the bare minimum go-through-the-motions type days.

Edit:maybe not after reading Huffington Post...

Now I almost feel like Jeb doesn't even want to be president if he's saying shit like this. Of course it's not like he's ever been saying shit that makes sense, but this is something that will make 99% of America say "Go fuck yourself".

Jeb Bush Says His Remarks On Americans Working Longer Hours Were Taken Out Of Context
Huffington Post said:
"If we're going to grow the economy people need to stop being part-time workers, they need to be having access to greater opportunities to work," Bush said, according to The Washington Post. "You can take it out of context all you want, but high-sustained growth means that people work 40 hours rather than 30 hours and that by our success, they have money, disposable income for their families to decide how they want to spend it rather than getting in line and being dependent on government."
Well there he goes sounding more like a Republican. Those 47% raise their mooching heads again.

Jeb will take those part time hours and turn them into full-time hours. How? By "giving more Americans the ability to work, earn a paycheck, and make ends meet".

Anybody have any ideas on what that's supposed to mean?

Yo, Jeb, what about those people already working two jobs, 60 hours a week, just barely making ends meet?

Do you support increasing healthcare subsidies to help them out when they get sick?

Do you support mandatory sick leave so that they can get better?

Do you support increasing tax credits to families for child care?

Do you support increased funding of early education to help these families?

Do you support increased funding of SNAP for these families that are often on the edge of poverty?

No? You think they should just work more?

What's interesting is that every idea thrown out by GOP candidates so far (job creation, better infrastructure, better borders, bigger defense) requires government spending. You can basically see the "we told them wealth would trickle down!" meme in person.

"You will work more hours..."

Lol was my first thought as well

I find that when a republican says that people need "access to greater opportunities to work" they're usually referring to legislation that make it harder for poor people to receive benefits, such as food stamps. Their logic is that by taking away their benefits, it'll somehow make it easier for them to get a full-time job, or any job at all for that matter that pays a living wage.

It's like the GOP doesn't even try.

They are stuck. They double downed on the evangelical vote + social issues. Now they are on the wrong side of history and the direction the country is going in. The only way for them to win is to offer opposition to some things that both parties have done in the past. But they don't want to shake up the status quo. They depend on the system as it is. So they can't offer true opposition. So the only thing left is their social issues stuff, and that is a losing platform.

I kind of think most of them are just happy to keep their job. And it's actually easy to blame the other side for all the woes in this country. They can keep their jobs by simply blaming everything on the other side.

But yeah, expect the GOP to keep fielding jokers like Romney that just go along with the party. I think the GOP will lose for a long time to come. It would take a major economic collapse or war to get people to flip back to the other side.

I wasn't talking about you personally. I picked up on the fact that you sounded like you do it when you have no other choice. I know it sucks. I'm sure you feel the same when I say that I'm not comfortable spending the majority of my one life here on Earth toiling away making someone else rich.

Thanks, but no thanks Jeb.

no worries, I understood where you were coming from. I just wanted to elaborate it better because I felt it was vague.

What? I get six weeks of vacation a year at my job. That's 30 work days, throw I. A few "sick" days and I take almost as much vacation as that a year.

In a few more years that'll increase to 8 weeks a year.
You need to remember alot of people work Walmart type jobs where you get no vacation.

But see those are all real life relevant questions. Not easily prepared statements based on buzzwords and not facts and statistical data.

The whole election process in general is a fucking joke. Nothing about it talks about real life issues.

Why?

I'm salaried, so no OT for me. And I'm already working through four out of five lunches each week. I fail to see how working more than the 10 hour day I already work can help.

Fuck yeah. I agree. I want to work 2 extra hours a day and have an extra day off a week. Lets make this the standard. He didn't say more hours, just longer.

Same deal for me. At the end of the day I am already working slower due to being tired and starting to lose interest.

If he wants to improve workplace productivity pay your employees more and and cut their hours.

How does he intend to make businesses give people more hours when some companies will fire an employee for clocking out late?

Yep. People at my job work extra hours with no extra pay all the time, because everyone's afraid of getting fired. Last thing we need is even more of the same.

Oh the fuck is working longer hours going to help anyone, or anything. Productivity goes down, and if each worker is working more, it will mean less people will get hired.

If anything , people need to work a lot less. Lower full time to 32 hours, but keep the pay in ratio to 40. People make the same amount of money, but work less, increasing productivity, and companies can hire more workers, and lower the unemployment rate.

Yep, and dropping my kid off at day care, commute, picking him up. FU on longer hours, my wife has a hour commute each way to work, so she already has a 50 hour week.

Bernie Sanders is the hero you guys need.

I'm apprehensive about cheering for him though, because it may be better for Canada if America gets screwed by another republican for 4-8 years.

So maybe I'll silently cheer for a dumb republican like Jeb Bush to win. Sucks for my American friends, but it'll do wonders for the Canadian economy (as long as the US doesn't drop the entire world into a worse recession).

You want wars?

We already work more than any developed nation on earth. But we have to work even more because of shitty reasons?

dudes a fuckin cock. if he has any actual fuckin chance on the bill... jesus fucking christ. we would be that fucking close to electing that dildo of a human being into the presidential seat.

what a fucking country we've become.

Because that's how you get wars
Lets be real. Anyone from the republican side gets into the oval office and we're going to be bombing some group of brown people. Democrats really even arent much better on the middle east but we'd be murdering Iranians within the first term with a republican I'd wager.

I'm sure this has been said numerous times already but...

Fuck you, sir. Ten hour days are already wasting a significant portion of my life.

I just read an interview in which Donald Trump said he'll win the Latino vote. Somehow, this wasn't the most out of touch thing said by a Republican candidate today. Jeb Bush doesn't care about the American people, he doesn't understand economics, and he obviously doesn't want to be President.

So. Work more hours huh. Easier said than done. How about families. Family time is already tight in a lot of families. So if we work more, spend less time with our children, that will fix everything?

How about the people that have daycare restraints. Single parents who need to be available for their kids.

No. Working more hours isn't the key. I work from home but I can work anywhere between 40-80 hours a week if it is a rough week but I get to see my kids during the days which is nice. My wife works alot already. 10 hour days on average if not more. She has a few hours with the kids before they and her go to bed. My 15 month old already says "Mommy Work".

I am all for hard work, provide for yourself and family no matter what. But having out of touch politicians say things like this shows the wrong people are in charge of this country.

Jeb can get bent.
