Jeremy Renner is taking a break from the film industry

I like Jeremy Renner, so this kind of sucks but if he wants to step back that's cool. He had been working pretty hard.

Yeah, I should take a break from work to enjoy how awesome I am too.

Oh right.

I wish I could do that.

"Hey, boss, I need to reconnect with my family and catch up on some movies and TV shows I missed. I'm gonna take a break for a while. See you in six months?"

must be nice to put your job on hold with millions upon millions in bank, can we just award him the nobel prize for bravery already?

I have to imagine he is one of the hardest working actors in hollywood.

EDIT: NeoGAF has such great memes/gifs but they were kind of ruined by how specific they are. After the 100th(or 10,000th) version of it, I'm put off by the bishoptl stuff.

He is always good in the roles I see him in. I don't really understand why some gaffers have a problem with him. Sure, he's been busy and has done a lot of work recently, but he's not horrible in any of the work he's done and it's not like it's impossible to avoid his movies. I like to think that I enjoy movies as much as the next guy, and I never got a sense of Renner overload.

I like him, I thought he was great in The Hurt Locker and The Town, and he did a pretty good Hawkeye.

I think he's kinda hot too.

The bloke can't stand him though, so he'll be happy.

When he's clean shaven and has his SWAT/Bourne Legacy haircut, I'd say he looks really much much younger than 41 years old, he looks 31, 32 to me easily.

He's 41?! That's as surprising to me as when I found out Tosh was 37.

I dont mind him at all. Not a terrible actor. Not a omg amazing one. Can't go wrong.

"not a terrible actor" GAF hyperbole, but I guess it's a compliment, those who saw him in The Town, The Hurt Locker, Jesse James or else and have some common sense know that this guy is really really talented. He's not overly expressive or flashy, what's interesting (and how Are described his performances by critics) is how quiet, understated he acts, there's something brewing underneath, he's quite intense.

As for Worthington who is being hammered (guy did nothing wrong), it is ridiculous, he acknowledges that he's not the most gifted actor, and he is really bringing some diversity to his game with small movies such as The Debt (heard he's good in it), Texas Killing Fields, Man On A Ledge (he is solid in it), Last Night (strong performance), Drift, etc.

It's classic shit though with a guy appearing in 3 blockbusters in a couple of months that people get bored or fed up. Guy was living in his car (no stupid comments plz) before Avatar, and then he got job, that's how it works. Plus, he is good in Avatar, was the best thing in Terminator Salvation (critics did say this), he was bland in COT (and even he says it), and much better in Wrath Of Titans.

He needs interesting roles, and he's gettin those.

And may I say that before Avatar, he did quite a few Aussie movies and he was notably fantastic in Somersault (awarded).

That's it, I'm just getting tired of reading such hateful comments on him (AND Renner)

That's like when I found out Criss Angel is 45. LOL

Renner is clearly a late-bloomer. Thus this break is very weird.

Well, I'm not a big magic fan so I can't speak on that, but the idea that Renner looks old for his age is a little absurd to me. I figured he was in his early 30's (which is the age most of his characters seem to be).

Jeremy was unhappy with Hawkeye's role in Avengers. Not enough screen time in an ensemble pic. Maybe if you played an interesting character and were an interesting actor people would want your solo movie!

While everyone seemed quite happy with Marvel's "The Avengers" movie, one person who wasn't entirely satisfied was one of its stars - Jeremy Renner.

Out doing promotion for "The Bourne Legacy", the actor talked with The Los Angeles Times about his frustration with the limited aspects of his Hawkeye role.

Easily the most underwritten of the main group of characters, Renner's Hawkeye spent much of the film possessed and so had little to no time for character development.

"At the end of the day, 90% of the movie, I’m not the character I signed on to play. I’m literally in there for two minutes, and then all of a sudden… All I could really work on was the physical part of it all, because that didn’t change. That was just the biggest challenge to overcome in playing the guy. Also, we’re pretty much introducing a new superhero character to everyone in a movie where there’s a thousand superheroes.

So there’s not a lot of back story or understanding we can really tell about who Clint Barton is, or Hawkeye, and is he working for SHIELD or not. There’s a lot of unanswered questions, even for me. And I was OK with that. At least I was still in the movie. And I was glad for that.

The closest thing I could really link to was Scarlett [Johansson's] character, Black Widow, because they have a history. And that definitely plays in the movie, I think. And obviously, you can’t go into too much just because there’s so much story to tell, but you definitely get a sense that they’re connected, and that there’s something really, really important that ties them together. And I could try to summarize it, but it can go a lot of places. That excites me, though, that there’s room for other things.

Later on in the interview he adds:

"I think he’s already an interesting enough character. To really kind of take away who that character is and just have him be this sort of robot, essentially, and have him be this minion for evil that Loki uses. Again, I could just focus on the task. I was limited, you know what I mean? I was a terminator in a way. So yeah, fun stunts. But is there any sort of emotional content or thought process? No. That doesn’t exist in that time [that he's hypnotized]. It happens to be for most of the movie."

Asked about the possibility of a standalone "Hawkeye" movie, Renner says "I think there’s always possibilities of anything in the Marvel universe. There’s gotta be a want from people to see something like that. I don’t know if there is. Maybe there is maybe there isn’t."
