Jesse Eisenberg and Jeremy Irons cast in Batman vs Superman

Zuckerberg being the template of Luthor would make sense to me. Who else would have the ego to challenge Superman than a man who built a vast business empire at a ridiculously young age. Who knows, maybe the youthful energy/tech culture would bring some of the mad scientists quirks back to the character.

Fuck that.

Lex is a dude who earned everything he got, even if not legally. The American Dream spirit personified. Not a counter culture douche. He's a dude who wears a suit.

The only way I can imagine a Zuckerberg type portrayal working is if Lex wanted to be Superman's friend, and Superman doesn't reciprocate that. Like a rich Jimmy Olsen. Lex is the dude who hates aliens because they represent the end point of human endevour.

Funny how much of a perfect match it is. lol

People can be so boring with their casting ideas. "Hey that actor was bald once! He should play Lex!" Or "Gadot is a terrible choice, they should cast lynn Collins or the girl who played faora because look at these pics of them in WW-esque armor!"

Cranston would have been too old. Lex is supposed to be a peer age-wise to Superman. Someone who is obsessed with being his equal, not some scenery chewing old man like older portrayals had him.

I've been a stan for this movie since its inception but

Nah, man. Jesse will not pull a Ledger. There's no way.
Really? Oh time traveler please enlighten us with what the future holds.

Instead of jumping to conclusions let's just wait it out.. You know, be like.. Rational and stuff.

Rushed? The movie just got pushed back a whole year. lol

I meant more along the lines of Man of Steel to what seems to be the first half of a Justice League movie. Granted they want to work up to a Justice League movie but it seems like a disservice to the other heroes if it is just going to be Batman/Superman 2 and friends.

We don't know the story for this lex. Could be a loved child of Lionel Luther who named his company after his son. Died and the company went to to his youthful brash son. It could be anything that we have not seen yet regarding lex in movies before. Many here are looking at lex though the tinted glasses of prior viewing experiences

what the hell happened to Joaquin Phoenix as Lex?

Phoenix doesn't strike me as the type of dude that wants to commit himself to some comic book movie universe for the next however many years. Would have been a great choice though. My dream choice was Fassbender but with him being in Xmeb that was never happening either.

Holy shit

That is...ballsy casting on Luthor... And based TSN... I can see Eisenberg working.

This announcement has just made me that much more curious about the direction they're going for this film. Sucks it's still two years away.

But really, for better or worse, that's how DC has always done it. Superman, Batman, and everyone else. Sure, it would have been nice to get solo films for the others, but that ain't their M.O.

They're really just operating the same way they always have with these IP. It's just that people can't imagine method that isn't the "Marvel Methd" working. There's no rushing here; just a different strategy.

Except we don't know in what capacity these other characters are going to show up in. And right now, they only other character confirmed is Wonder Woman. Not Green Lantern, not Flash, not Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, Cyborg, Green Arrow, Nightwing, Dr. Fate, or anyone else.

Maybe we'll get some more overt references and cameos, but there's no reason to assume they all team up at the end or whatever.

This is the fact, many people will eat crow when movie comes out . Either those who berated the development and casting or those who supported it. Movie will bring the biggest threads and biggest meltdowns any movie will bring on GAF in years

When it underperforms like Man of Steel, Warner will still be left scratching their heads.

Man of Steel did not underperform. It's actually one of the most successful superhero reboots ever.

Man I really hope Jesse Eisenberg kills it because then we can use this thread as yet another example of nerd rage, overreactions, and judging something before you even see the final product.

You are comparing a Nolan film to a Snyder film.

And Jeremy Irons is too cool to be Alfred. I guess Synder ran out of old English guys to do the part so he went to Irons.

I'm comparing one great Oscar Nominated actor who didn't fit the pre-conceived notions of what people were looking for in a casting decision with a different Oscar Nominated actor who didn't fit the pre-conceived notions of what people were looking for in a casting decision.

I'm not saying it will be good or bad, just that's it's dumb to project your vision on a project we don't know that much about.

Oh please. Comparing a method actor like Ledger to Rosenberg is laughable. The thought of Lex being a Zuckerberg clone is the only way to swallow this pill. So relax, no one is hedging bets on this shit. I'm still going to watch it day one regardless.

Yo people shitting on the Eisenberg casting will suck eggs and eat crow. Guarantee it.

Dude will nail it. The god damn smug smarminess and self importance he showed in social network is exactly what the role of Luthor needs.

Snyder is going to find a way to put him in front of a picture of Steve Jobs or someone in the film. He has to.

None of which set the world on fire. There is no definitive version of Lex Luthor to overcome.

Eisenberg's casting tells me they're going for pure 100% intellect with Lex. The more I think about it, the more I like the contrast he could provide to both Cavill and Affleck. This is also where Batman can be very useful. He's capable of matching wits with a guy like Lex. Superman will need his help.

People love the dude who played Lex in Smallville.

I don't see this changing anyone's minds about Eisenberg as an actor. And just because his personality seems like a good match on paper doesn't mean it'll play out that way. Michael Shannon was a great pick for Zod based on Boardwalk and Take Shelter, but he was totally mishandled in Man of Steel.

Fair point. It is difficult to capture lightning in a bottle twice. I still worry they kept Snyder after the lukewarm reception Man of Steel got critically. That worries me 1000 times more than Eisenberg who will probably be fine as Luther. They really need to update the suit when they get around to it.
Except Chris Terrio is writing based on Goyers screenplay, so there is hope. Thank you based Affleck for bringing a good writer.

Thank god.

Welp, movie ruined.

At least Jermy Irons as Alfred would be fun to watch but Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor just... NO.

I was never on the Ben Afleck hate train, I think he can pull off batman. But Eisenberg as Lex doesn't give me any hope at all.
