Jesse Eisenberg and Jeremy Irons cast in Batman vs Superman

Prove me wrong.

Easy. When your complaint about criticism boils down to "lol you don't make movies, so how do you know!" it's weak shit. Otherwise no one could complain about anything.

Eisenberg is a good actor, was great in TSN. Nothing he has done suggests he's a good fit for Luthor. Hanging on Ledgers nuts does not change that (and I was never against that casting anyway). Could I be proven wrong? Maybe. WB's track record suggests otherwise though.

Come on, you know criticism exists , and then this exists, this is not criticism of a work, this is critisicm of an idea due to preconceived notions, we don't know how the role was casted, what they are looking for, what he gave them, that's why due to preconceptions we all point to the guy who played the evil bad guy once.

Well, this is embarrassing. WB just announced that they were actually trying to be clever and announce that "Jesse's friend, Heisenberg" would be playing Luthor. Unfortunately a proof-reader misinterpreted it and printed Jesse Eisenberg instead. Warner Bros. would like to sincerely apologize for the confusion, and they would like it known that the offending party has been taken out back and shot, and has also lost their job.

This is a surprise for sure. I think its a good one though. Considering that they feel Eisenberg is a good fit for their version of Lex, I'm definitely interested in seeing what they do with the character.

I really have to wonder if he was their first choice or not.

He's shown that he's a very capable actor, so I'm not skeptical in their decision to choose Eisenberg. I feel that it's quite ballsy casting actually.

When all is said and done, there's no way in hell that they give him the role unless he's pefect for what they have in mind. There's just way too much on the line for them to mess up something as big as the villain.

As far as Irons goes, I think he's a safe bet. I wonder how big his role will be, and if he tries to steal any scene he's in.

Please let this movie be 3 hours long.

With the casting they have done so far I am just expecting ashton kutcher to jump out and scream you have all been punked. I mean seriously that is the only thing that makes sense at this point.

There's no way he ends up playing Zuckerberg in this movie.

We're definitely going to get a new version of Lex in this movie, and he won't be Zuckerberg clone.

Oh, and I'd love to hear Eisenberg talk about the character. I'm willing to bet he has a very great understanding and unique view of the character.

I'd like to hear anyone talk about anything relating to this film. I do think there's a method to this madness - even if I'm not sure it will be a good movie - but we've got nothing to go on as far as the plot or anything. That's why I'm not freaking out over any of the announcements because I have no idea what direction they're going in.

Really guys? You don't think Billy Zane would be a great Lex? Look at his work from Demon Knight and you can see he would be a great manipulative villain....

Sigh..........

Just saw a couple scenes of social network again.

Not buying Eisenberg as Luthor.

His voice and charisma are just so...small.

The one of the latest rumored leaks had Luthor described as "being in the background, manipulating events". So maybe he's not intended to be a paragon of human excellence or even charismatic in the movie.

Was hoping for Joaquin though, that would have been awesome

and as much as I love Cranston he's too old for Luthor.

They're obviously going a different route with Lex and i'm just really curious exactly what that is. Not going to knock out eisenberg though until I see him in the role though.

Irons is fine, Eisenberg may be okay based on what direction they go. I'm glad Snyder has confirmed they're going in a different direction for this incarnation of Lex, as Eisenberg does not fit the traditional Lex we see in the comics.

I was really hoping they'd take inspiration from the comics for Supes vs Bats Lex. I'm worried that this new Lex won't be quite as compelling as ASS Lex or the Lex miniseries by Azzarello, but I'll try to keep an open mind till the trailer. If they go with some amalgamation of Zuckerberg and Lex, I feel like it won't live up to the potential of the character and it'll be disappointing as all hell.

I'm happy about this. I really liked Man of Steel and have been kindof mixed over the news about the sequel so far since I don't like the idea of it being Avenger-ified, but this I like. It's different and kinda unconventional but I can see it working.

After Man of Steel, I really shouldn't have expected anything better but wow this movie sounds like a disaster. At least it'll be an entertaining train wreck though.

billy zane? lmao y'all don't know shit. just because they look the part doesn't mean they can play it.

thinking about it, i could totally be down with a social network young smug billionaire lex luthor. i just hope he's not so neurotic. can eisenberg play somebody that doesn't belong in a woody allen film? that's all i'm skeptical about for him now.

i'm glad it wasn't mark strong. that guy's a villain in everything. benedict cumberbatch is like mark strong 2.0

Except Benedict Cumberbatch isn't a villain in everything.

I think Ben Affleck is the only good cast for this movie.

It's not like we've seen him play much else, and Snyder is not the kind of director to get that kind of 180 performance out of an actor.

I thought the casting in Man of Steel was aces. Cavill was born to play Superman, Michael Shannon as Zod was awesome, Antje Traue was perfect. Costner was great and Crowe was a very good Jor-El. I can't think of a single actor that did a shit job or was wrongfully cast, they were all a great fit. Even Morpheus as Perry White was cool.

A shame Superman, Costner and Crowe were all badly written.

Also, Eisenberg is the same age as Henry Cavill.

My brain is in so much denial over the cast choices for this movie that every time we get some news I think "I wonder if they are going to announce who is going to play Batman yet. Maybe Bale will come back." Then someone posts a Ben Afflec pic and my mind retreats to its happy place to start fresh with anticipation the next day.

I wonder who is going to play Batman

I'll never understand why people can get so mad over casting choices for a film that won't even be out for another two years.

Until I've seen the movie, I simply can't know if the choice is good or bad. It's like Jonah Hill. Never liked likes his roles in most movies but then he was great in The Wolf of Wall Street. Sometimes, actors can surprise you.

People just like to bitch and eat crow, I guess.

Whatever, I have zero expectations for this film. Man of Steel was mediocre, not much better than that other Superman movie to be honest. I think we all see where this franchise is heading.

Im in the same opinion right now. It's too strange casting, so maybe they are going for something real interesting.

i honestly have no problem seeing where this goes...

Clearly they are going the smallville route with Both Clark and Lex being around the same ages, possibly friends and my guess is they make Lionel (or Jules, whatever name they give him) a big baddy to pave the way for Lex's evil turn in a Justice League film.

Just out of interest how did everyone feel about the casting of Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach?
Actually i didnt think he was bad at all. But he has a good voice. All i hear from Eisenberg is a kid still going though puberty. Not very indimidating at all for a very well known villian.

The voice was put on though. I'm not saying Jesse Eisenberg will suddenly sound like James Earl Jones or anything but he could talk with a deeper voice.
