Jet Impulse - Nintendo's Ace Combat game on DS

It's being made internally at EAD iirc, there were even some comments from the team that they wanted to make a fighter sim because the genre was untouched on DS so far.

Did they do the Submarine demo?
The syle is very similar.

I wish they'll turn it into a full uboat/submarine DS game, it was fun!

I'm pretty sure you could do a proper sub sim à la 688 on the DS, the 3d view wouldn't even be necessary othen than for satisfying the needs for fancy graphics.

A mixed platform game like Dangerous Waters (sub+ship+heli+plane) with multiplayer would rock beyond imagination.

Even better, a single ship with multiple stations.

Anyway, enough dreaming, is Jet Impulse coming in the west?

EAD should have released that submarine game. Developers were stating it was the most played DS game/demo in the office!

Is Jet Impulse by EAD? Who knows. Not because they can't develop that kind of game but because corporate seems to be pushing them to make these pop-culture friendly games that appeal to all the age-groups so they can sell 10000 billion.

If EAD is making it, this is a day one purchase. It's odd, though, to see them working on a game seemingly so derivative of another company's game. They typically try to blaze trails with their software rather than imitating others.

EDIT: Also, does anyone get an F-Zero vibe from the name Jet Impulse?
They could call it Blue Falcon. That would work quite nicely. Although I think Jet Impulse has a better ring to it.

But this is Nintendo, so I guess we should just be happy they're not calling it Poopii.

Not quite untouched

Top Gun from Mastiff
F-24 from Majesco (upcoming in a couple weeks, I think)
Freedom Wings from Natsume

Then again, I guess those were perhaps not "sims" per se, more action games.

That's not so much "touched" as it is "molested". Jet fighter action on the DS needs EAD's loving touch.

Well, their perspective is more likely Japanese... in which case only Taito's Freedom Wings (which Natsume picked up for the USA) would apply, and barely at that given it's an RPG (combat can even be turned to automatic).

Well, to be perfectly candid, Jet Impulse doesn't look like a sim. I mean, it doesn't even try to be realistic. But I bet it's going to be fun, as are the Wii games (Wing Island, Heatseeker).

I want to hear impressions also. The site has new videos and new modes are revealed also.
Nice.

Though, I want J-GAF impressions of this. Someone in Japan go buy the game and tell me if it's any good. :(

I might take the plunge and pic this up tomorrow morning. Impressions will come people.

However, I'm hoping mission goals are obvious as my Japanese reading ability is pretty much 0% and as of yet, there are no guides anyway and nobody on GameFAQs seems to have picked it up.... I'm going in alone, kamikaze style.

I'm amazed by the lack of impressions for this game, Play-Asia have had it in stock for close to a week now and we havn't heard as much as a peep from people who have played it.

Do we know any sales numbers for this game?

Is it me or I am tired of all of the 'strategy' involved in shooting games on the DS these days?

What ever happened to StarFox 1 quality of gameplay; just pure blasting away enemy units? Does Nintendo expect the typical DS owner to be too slow witted to not enjoy a pure arcade style aircraft shooter game?

My excitement for Jet Impulse went from mild interest to uninterested at all.

Where's the gameplay video? All I see is some nongameplay trailer.

It looks like as much of a sim as Ace Combat. Much more arcadey and accessable than traditional western PC flight sims sure, but it's not AfterBurner or something.

Haha, there's a rumour that Nintendo have changed the copy protection scheme for the DS carts with Jet Impulse. Maybe that's why no one have "bought" the game yet.

Way to beat piracy Nintendo! :)

Here's hoping the pirates won't find a workaround.

Heh! I did notice that, unlike pretty much every other DS game out there, it wasn't appearing on the usual sites overnight. Given the quick turnaround from sale cart to downloadable ROM, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Nintendo had done something to beef up CP...

First day sales were around the 2500 mark, so no wonder there haven't been many impressions.

I better actually do some marketing for the game when it releases in the US. Its got a lot of great nwc stuff so they may actually do something for the game.

it's not a rumor, this baby can't be dumped (until now).

That's why there is a lack of impressions.

The game got pirated so I expect a sudden flood of impressions soon

That didn't last long.

New videos on the story page and the QA page is updated. Looks like there will be some nice extras after you finish the game.

Nintendo lasted 6-7 days without pirates getting it, thats a pretty good amount of time considering that Dark Alex cracks PSP firmware in like a day or two

According to the group who dumped it, the game didn't have different protection. Looks like the first group just had no idea what they were doing.

On the plus side (for me, not Nintendo), at least some of these pirates might write an FAQ, I'm getting a little tired of guessing the mission objectives.

Woah, didn't see that, but downloading a plane ever time I want to use it isn't going to be fun. I can see this working for NWC battles though.

Ha, they just updated with some new Q & A question and one of them says no download planes can be used in VS mode, but you can actually use them in story and free so it's kind of good news.

Thanks for the impressions marvel. Sounds pretty good so far.

Sorry for bumping.

As an avid EAD fanatic, I really want this rare game. Does anyone have any info at all on its localisation.

I am patiently waiting.

Or should I enroll into Japanese classes.
