No one was more excited about the planned Dumb and Dumber sequel than Jim Carrey -- but three months after director Peter Farrelly confirmed that both original stars would reprise their iconic roles, ETOnline has exclusively learned that Carrey has exited from the project.

According to sources, Carrey grew increasingly frustrated by New Line and Warner Brothers, who he felt showed a lack of enthusiasm regarding the project.

A sentiment seemingly reinforced by a statement exclusively obtained when ETOnline reached out to the actor's publicist for comment. In addition to confirming the story, Carrey exclusively tells ETOnline, "I would have thought Dumb and Dumber To was a no-brainer, after all it's implied in the title."

No, not really. Watch it again -- every line and gag still holds up. It's impossible to not nearly piss yourself watching this movie to this day. I loved more or less all of Jim's comedies from the 90s, but Dumb and Dumber is the only one that I feel compelled to watch over and over.

Tommy Boy is still amazing too.. Farley's passing was really tragic.

We had it on netflix this past Monday actually. I was partially side tracked by Diablo but I didn't laugh TOO much. Maybe I wasn't focused enough on it...guess I have to watch it again.
