So, is everyone forgetting the utter dominance of Microsoft in the PC gaming space? Gaming is basically non-existent in platforms other than Windows.
Everyone else = playstation in your statement, as we know that ms is publishing all of their games day one on pc, and might even expand to switch at some stage. No, of course not.
But size matters… actiblizzard is a huge multiplat developer, bungle runs destiny. Removing actiblizzard from the pool immediatly makes everyone else’s experience worse.
Do we have any proof showing ms actively blocking devs from developing games for Linux or Mac? Or is it purely developers choice not to bother with these. So, is everyone forgetting the utter dominance of Microsoft in the PC gaming space? Am i the only one that feels like that Sony and MS and other big companies are going quiet in acquisitions in 2022 to be ready for more acquisitions once this deal happens / gets rejected?
I feel like this is going to be a mess after the MS / Activision stuff is sorted out.
They didn't stay quiet for a year without having acquisitions ready to possibly happen after this one.
They won't go for that. The only ones missing would be EA, Ubisoft or Take Two. They are having these issues with Activision alone. After acquiring Bethesda and Activision (if the do acquire Activision) there's no way they will be allowed to buy another huge publisher.I'm wondering whats going to happen if Microsoft goes after another large multiplatform publisher after this.

The agreement to buy Bungie was made with its owners and if they violated the contract, the ownership of Bungie will go back to its previous owners.

Probably depends on the conclusions of this deal.I'm wondering whats going to happen if Microsoft goes after another large multiplatform publisher after this.
Wow! Four games. All of those games could of appeared on Xbox if MS want to stump up some cash. Let's see how many games disappear from PS with Zenimax and ABK.Choices disappear indeed.
Like the choice playing Street Fighter V on Xbox.
Or the choice of playing FF VII remake on Xbox.
Or the choice of playing FF XVI on Xbox.
Or the choice of playing Forspoken on Xbox.
I mean it's not like Jim is pulling this out of his ass:
Microsoft loses yet another fortune that would have bankrupted any other business during the Xbox One era but Microsoft is a tech giant and has plenty of money to burn. Influencers brag about the Microsoft war chest often enough that it becomes a meme.
Microsoft creates GamePass. This service is so funded by Microsoft that they basically gave out (and still give out) years of service for almost free. They also put first party games that in the past were $50+ into the service day one for free as well. One could also argue that Sony got a lot of bad publicity when they would not allow the same kind of stacking that Microsoft allowed.
Microsoft then brokers one of the largest publisher acquisitions in gaming history to acquire games that traditionally have been available on multiple platforms and immediately announce that future titles will be Xbox only.
After that, Microsoft brokers an even larger acquisition for one of the biggest publishers of games in the world. It is obvious that they are using their money and power as a tech giant to try and buy their way to dominance.
Microsoft can point fingers at other players in the space, but none of those players are spending close to $100 billion dollars in a few years in order to acquire publishers that have multiple popular studios under their wing.
I mean you can nitpick these things but this is basically what has been happening.
And sony could of bought zenimax if they could shell out 4 billion for 1 studio in bungie they could of came up with 8 billion for zenimax. Last i looked since Microsoft bought zenimax sony got more exclusives 2-0 from zenimax studios.Wow! Four games. All of those games could of appeared on Xbox if MS want to stump up some cash. Let's see how many games disappear from PS with Zenimax and ABK.
This is 3rd party. So which entire genres and series did they corner and cut off from other brands?Guy who's main business practice is to pay developers to not release their games on competing platforms and cornering entire gaming series and genres on "his" brand is complaining about monopolistic practices?
I thought Jimbo said that people will flock to quality content. If they will provide it (in terms of first party), what is his worry exactly?
We just went through an entire generation where MS did no such dominating. He's definitely not wrong. That is what MS does.
JRPG's mainly. And you can also count competitive fighting games with SFV, but that's coming back with SFVI. Like really. If you are fan of JRPG of fighting games, would you buy an Xbox? This is 3rd party. So which entire genres and series did they corner and cut off from other brands?
Also MS have the exact same opportunity to buy said content for themselves and they have been.
So which two exclusives did Sony get from Zenimax? They were timed console exclusives which released on PC day and date and now are on Xbox. So you look foolish now.Yet again which set of gamers has lost more games from major studios in the last 3 years? Last i looked Sony got more exclusives since Microsoft bought zenimax than Microsoft 2-0. How many SE has sony locked up in the last few years again? The ABK deal will still result in less games taken away from playstation for the next 5 years than Microsoft gamers will lose this year alone from major studios. If dominance is releasing a game with parity for the next 10 years what is sony doing?
And sony could of bought zenimax if they could shell out 4 billion for 1 studio in bungie they could of came up with 8 billion for zenimax. Last i looked since Microsoft bought zenimax sony got more exclusives 2-0 from zenimax studios.

On PC, a market nearly as big as console, MS puts their games on Steam day one.
Mobile streaming? theyve extended their entire Azure stack and infrastructure to any player willing to pay. Even competitors.
It’s so weird how these claims are made with zero supporting evidence.
Exclusive is exclusive can i play ghost wire tokyo on an xbox today? Could you play deathloop day 1 on a xbox? Until sony stops the agressive timed exclusives from major studios i have zero issues with Microsoft buying studios to fight back.So which two exclusives did Sony get from Zenimax? They were timed console exclusives which released on PC day and date and now are on Xbox. So you look foolish now.
MS of already locked Starfield and that game by Arcane but judging by MS slow schedule we can't give a timeframe.
No, but Microsoft was probably doing that stuff in the 90sDo we have any proof showing ms actively blocking devs from developing games for Linux or Mac? Or is it purely developers choice not to bother with these.

Can you please list the entire RPG series of games that Sony has paid to keep off Xbox? Last I checked FF15 was on Xbox. FF7 never released as far as I'm aware on an Xbox.JRPG's mainly. And you can also count competitive fighting games with SFV, but that's coming back with SFVI. Like really. If you are fan of JRPG of fighting games, would you buy an Xbox?
Of course Microsoft has opportunity. But claiming it is "same" is disingenuous. When you are paying cash for timed/permanent exclusivity, price of that exclusivity needs to compensate revenue lost from selling your game on other platform. And since PlayStation was more popular last gen, those deals are cheaper for Sony then they are for Microsoft. It is one of the reason, why Microsoft stopped doing timed exclusive deals for big AAA games after Rise of the Tomb Raider. And that's the point. Sony was trying so hard last gen and at start of this gen to bury Microsoft under the ground with those strategic deals. Which is business after all. So I'm not complaining about that. But it's funny when Jimbo is crying to the media, when other company is using their strength (ie. fuckload of money) to fight them.
It's like if I said..."well, duh, Sony could bought Bethesda or Activision Blizzard or make some kind of merger."
I love these alt type accounts with the usual green stench. It's a bit sad when they justify their opinion/statement with either PS owner/PS fan etc. It makes the statement that more believable.Sony money hats multi-plat exclusives left and right when it suits them. Blocks releases of certain titles on Xbox for periods anywhere up to a year and refuses to allow multi-plat titles to matchmake with Xbox players. They also platform lock dlc for certain titles on the regular. Are we really supposed to believe it’s Microsoft stifling player choice? What a joke. This comes from a PS5 owner.
Me as an xbox fanboy. You are fool of shitSony money hats multi-plat exclusives left and right when it suits them. Maybe MS should have been backing up money trucks the same way Sony does. I don’t see how they have billions for acquisitions but nothing for exclusives.Exclusive is exclusive can i play ghost wire tokyo on an xbox today? Could you play deathloop day 1 on a xbox? Until sony stops the agressive timed exclusives from major studios i have zero issues with Microsoft buying studios to fight back.
In gaming they've failed to do so thus far. I'm obviously talking about other markets where they do dominate (and there's a lot of not exactly flattering history telling how they got to that point). This is what they want to achieve in gaming too (if you don't believe that's their goal I don't know what to tell you), they just have never figured out how to properly compete. So now they've switched strategies to buying their way to dominance.

Yes. Rise of the Tomb Raider is a classic one.Maybe MS should have been backing up money trucks the same way Sony does. I don’t see how they have billions for acquisitions but nothing for exclusives.
I could be wrong, but didn’t MS pioneer this concept?

Sony money hats traditionally multi-plat exclusives left and right when it suits them. Regularly pays for timed releases for certain titles anywhere up to a year. They refuse to allow PlayStation players to matchmake with Xbox players. For years they have paid for exclusive marketing rights for certain multi-plat games. They also platform lock dlc for certain titles on the regular. Are we really supposed to believe it’s Microsoft stifling player choice? What a joke. This comes from a PS5 owner btw.
It's not the truth. One company is raising prices of games and systems and charging extra for cross-gen upgrades, and claiming that a sub service is impossible. The other company is providing more options and competition.First page full of people angry at Jim Ryan for telling the truth is hilarious.
Only because MS was shortsighted and they do nothing about it because they can't, because of the nature of PCs. But they would if they could. That isn't really comparable though. PC operating systems are entirely open. Steam is king of the PC gaming space and Microsoft gives $0 from that revenue stream.
FF7 never released as far as I'm aware on an Xbox.
FF16 could be possibly timed console exclusive.
Xbox using money from elsewhere to get control of the market isn't fair at all. This isn't some start up company but a tech giant. They are spending close to $100 billion to monopolise the industry. They wouldn't be able to make those type of acquisitions just from their gaming revenue.
LMAO, it isn't true? It's not the truth. One company is raising prices of games and systems and charging extra for cross-gen upgrades, and claiming that a sub service is impossible. The other company is providing more options and competition.
All Ryan is correct about is that a monopoly is bad. What he lies about is that Sony is by far the most dominant and monopolistic in the high end gaming space. As soon as MS was able to make Gamepass attractive enough, they flipped and suddenly PS+ Extra exists and all the claims from Sony execs that the business model didn't make sense vanished. Read the thread about Sony raising PS5 prices in Europe on here sometime. It's nothing but posters here claiming that Sony has near total control of the market there so they can do whatever they want. Sony isn't a monopoly either, but in gaming they are a hell of a lot closer than MS is. Ryan's comments are a joke.
If we lived in opposite world where MS was in the position Sony is in now, and they were nearing some kind of monopolistic control that would rob everyone of choice, then maybe you'd have a point. But we're so far from that place that it's ridiculous.
I don't doubt they might try and buy Steam someday.
Only because MS was shortsighted and they do nothing about it because they can't, because of the nature of PCs. But they would if they could.

Has nothing to do with what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the video game market in 2022.
Microsoft engages in the exact same behavior. I'm not saying that makes it ok, but this crap happens on both sides.
But Jimbo IS telling the truth.Has nothing to do with what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the video game market in 2022.
Just because Sony picks better games for exclusivity doesn't mean the exclusivity xbox has with crappy games less shitty. The only one full of shit is you. Specifically, what in my comment was erroneous? You should be able to tell me. You can’t because Sony does indeed routinely engage in shitty business practices on the regular. I can be a fan of Playstation and still accept that. Why can’t you?
And the part after that is the lie. MS getting Activision is not going to result in the absence of choice in gaming or anything even close to a monopoly. But Jimbo IS telling the truth.
MS has a history of monopoly and you can't dispute that.
Those are facts.
Just because Sony picks better games for exclusivity doesn't mean the exclusivity xbox has with crappy games less shitty.
This ship ain't sailing mah dude
