Jim Sterling leaves Destructoid

I might as well unsubscribe to Destructoid's youtube channel. I only subscribed to it for The Destructoid Show, Hosted by Tara Long & Max Scoville from Rev3Games. But that show ended recently a couple months ago.

Even though I felt he kind of lost his voice as he went on, he used to be what I considered to be the pinnacle of general games criticism. I wish him the best and will continue to look out for him.

Might as well get this one out of the way, any way related to the recent Batman: Arkham Origins review?

I honestly never saw the appeal in him. His shtick (or at least I hope to god it is one) is annoying, and his reviews always seemed like clickbait.

Big loss for Destructoid.

Looking forward to seeing what he does in the future. Rev3 should try to get him, him and Sessler had pretty good chemistry at that panel a while ago.

I think it's funny to see the GAF turn around on Jim. There was a time where this board in general absolutely despised the dude. Good luck to you Jim in whatever you do next!

Ah man this sucks. Wish Sterling the best of the best, really enjoyed his humorous take on .. well everything.

So I guess the only thing left to ask is, Podtoid?!

He got a LOT better at presenting himself and his opinions.

Interesting to see what he does next.

I obviously don't have time to chat a bunch, plus my wife is gonna me MAD if we don't go do lunch soon, but I just wanna say thanks for the well wishes, GAF. Your reception to my work this year has been very touching.

And I am far from gone. I'm far gone, but far FROM gone. <3

Well, this is kind of a surprise. Jim hasn't been very active on the site for a while now, but I didn't expect him to leave it. Goodbye, Jim, and thank you for all your contributions to the site - both positive and controversial.

Jim Sterling working on Dark Souls 3 confirmed.

He kinda danced around the reasoning here? Anyone have any theories on why he left?

I always think foul play is afoot when someone leaves with nothing lined up....

Didn't Allistair Pinsof say something about loyalties being shown when Dtoid fired him a few months ago? Not saying it's connected at all, but this just reminded me of it.

Please do not join any other game website. Instead, create www.chungus.com, and create a series of extravagant alter-egos that are mostly just you in various forms of costume (drag if you will).

Well it's not that surprising considering he himself kind of reinvented his image with the Jimquisition. Before that everyone just knew him as the wildly inconsistent and borderline hypocritical game reviewer who would insult people in the comments section of his reviews. Then he became all of that minus most of the insults and a voice in the industry who would "stand up for the consumer!".

I wouldn't be surprised if this was directly the cause or at the very least a straw that broke the camel's back.

Edit: I don't see this as a " you gave it the wrong score, your are fired!" but simply something that caused some feather ruffling.

People mentioning Batman are being silly. That's not the first time he's been super critical on a high profile title, hell he's done far worse.

Reasoning seems to come through as not wanting to be devoted to a full time work schedule, needing to have flexible working hours. Maybe DesD was wanting to formalise the working week.

He mentioned on Podtoid a while back that he wanted to start moving his career path toward the creative side of gaming rather than the critical side of it. Writing games instead of writing about them, I believe. Anyway, he is a big, round, beautiful man.

Best of luck to Jim.

That being said I'm sort of tired of reading these seemingly weekly blog posts about someone leaving their video game editor job.

Dark Souls? O_o

Damn it, you're too fast!

I wouldn't mind more critical stuff like Brainy Gamer from him, Jimquisition has shown he's more interested in that than just standard game reviews. The best of luck to wherever he ends up! :D

Good luck Jim, sometimes we may not agree but a lot of the time you're spot-on man. Can't wait to see what's in store for you next.

Respect for the Arkham Origins review, I hope that wasn't a factor in the reason he left Dtoid.

What the hell is going on over at Destructoid? Jim, Tara, and Max all leaving in an extremely short span means I now have literally no reason to have anything to do with that site now. Is some disgusting thing happening or did everyone just decide nah? Next-Gen pressure? Shakeups? DetectiveGAF help plz.
