Everyone else actually showed off their body, Wii U has not. For the most part. Are people just being stupid now by calling WiiU an add on? Everything should be clear as day. PS1,2,3 and X360 never had this problem so why is it hard to grasp the idea that WiiU is a new system? Goddamn masses ¬_¬
As has been said, he's also responsible for the Wii brand taking a nosedive from record-breaking profits to record-breaking lows. He's also responsible for the 3DS needing an 80 dollar price cut less than a year after launch and a dramatic retooling of its software roadmap to turn sales around.
What happened with the PS3, financially speaking, was pretty extreme and doesn't warrant casual comparison.Ken Kutaragi developed two of the most successful consoles of all time before the PS3. He was forced into retirement. Just saying.
They could get rid of the name Wii and just call it the Nintendo U

Iwata's pretty uncomfortable right now, but he isn't presiding over a PS3 just yet.
Because those systems all had numerical symbols after their name. People recognize progression. A "U" doesn't represent anything. Those systems also had different font and/or color with each progression. PS1 was gray, PS2 was black, PS3 was black with a different logo. Are people just being stupid now by calling WiiU an add on? They could have at least changed the font or the coloring of "Wii".Now contrast those to:

Actually the above post hinted the possible solution: overhaul the logo, or at least do something like PS1 to PS2. That sort of thing immediately sends the signal it's a BIG change.I don't think Nintendo makes decisions in a total bubble. Their marketing research at some time must have indicated there was still some value to the "Wii" brand.
I'm just not sure that exists in 2012, nor is it worth risking possible confusion over just because it's recognizable.
How did the live presentation itself go? Was it good?

What happened with the Wii is completely normal. It had a perfect product lifecycle curve and they are releasing its successor just in time before it becomes insignificant. As has been said, he's also responsible for the Wii brand taking a nosedive from record-breaking profits to record-breaking lows.
There is also Wii's history of peripherals. A tablet called UPad that was on Wii made by THQ. The system uses the same font and logo as Wii and it utilizes the wii remote and nun chuck along with the Pad in demonstrations. I don't see how this is a non-issue.
Because Iwata is a horrible CEO.
He's clearly not accepting of constructive feedback from his employees and can't deal with those who have disagreements, since it seems in his mind they're always wrong and he is always right.
The naming of the system, the poor online infrastructure, and the same bad 3rdparty relationship really cements it.
I'm sick of Iwata. I want someone new. I don't even care if the guy's better or worse. I just want a shake-up.

Nintendo just needs to abort a launch this year and rebrand it at GDC, hell may as well wait for E3. They could show some fucking games and maybe release a few on launch a couple months before the new xbox and ps3 hit.
It looked like it went pretty well. They showed off the throwing star game from Nintendoland and the AR functions of ZombieU. The crowd seemed to really like it.
Exactly what I said when seeing the post.
If they release the Wii U anywhere close to Sony and MS' new consoles, they will be in big trouble. They can't abort the launch due to Wii's current performance and rebranding it to Wii 2 will probably work, but it could be too late now.Nintendo just needs to abort a launch this year and rebrand it at GDC, hell may as well wait for E3. Just look how confused he is, he's about to have a meltdown.
Good job, Nintendo.

So even the host doesn't know it's a brand new console. We don't have a price and we don't have a launch date.

Their obsession with controllers is really wearing thin.Demo is on now. Reggie said "this is the system..." but he put more focus on the tablet (as usual). Didn't really correct what Fallon said. Possibly didn't even hear him during the beginning of the show.
