Jimmy Kimmel makes Kanye West mad

because Yeezus is crazy...? I thought this was established a long time ago.

but even though he is crazy, he is relevant as fuck.

Kimmel gets more viewers per night than "Yeezus" will sell in its lifetime.

How is he more relevant again?

Are you trying to say Kanye only follows himself? I mean yeah, he's a fucking megalomaniac. He only follows Kim though because he's in love with her. Or whatever.

I've clearly stepped into the bizarro world.

Now, not only is Kanye the victim, he's suffering from racism because of the Kimmel spoof.

Jesus. I'm ALL ABOUT discussing racial injustices in the US, and there's a LOT of them, but come the fuck on.

I say this as someone who enjoys some of his old songs, but Kanye is acting like an idiot with stupid ass high school insults. "I get better pussy than you lolz". "You're a pussy". "Your girlfriend is funnier than you". "You get no good pussy". These are all pretty childish and, to be honest, stupid. If you're a celebrity, then you're open to being spoofed; it comes with the territory.

To be honest, this really just shows how insecure Kanye is.

Fucking stupid, that interview was some real shit and eye opening for me. There was some really eye opening stuff in there and to make fun of it is just childish. Making fun of Kanye is bottom of the barrel comedy these days.

Like what? What did he say exactly that so eye opening? Genuinely curious.

As I posted in another thread:

I don't like the guy, but I think I understood what he is saying, finally (doubt the interviewer did, and Kanye could tell).

He says black people have been given new "fields" to work in, where they think they can reach the top, but it's still "fields" (music/sports), but they aren't allowed to be the masters (the league owners, the music studio executives, etc.). So he wants to sit on the throne of the world-makers, the fashion industry, the architecture world, etc. When he compares what he is doing to his mother's involvement in the civil rights movement, it sounds shallow, because he's talking about money, but he's saying that's exactly what people say to keep him down, how when you are close to the throne you suddenly have to show humility and back away, if you're black. You can be gangster though.

When you think about it this way, pretty much the whole interview makes a lot of sense. He wants to be the Steve Jobs of this and that, not just another "black musician". It just seems to fly over people's heads, either because he is consciously trying to avoid making the issue too racial, or unconsciously, so it's not clear what he's saying without that aspect.

I would say that his music has affected culture (and will affect culture) much more than kimmel has (or will) in any of his endeavors. Not that it is a slight on Kimmel, I don't know much about the dude.

The point was saying someone who is on TV daily with 2.5 million people watching them is hardly "irrelevant".

kanye is known worldwide
kimmel is known.... in some states of the us ?

yep.

The Kimmel sketch is silly because it's drawing false, and frankly reductive, parallels. For one, yes, Kanye is a little strange - he's very direct and forthcoming about his desire to be the best and his high self esteem. But to replace Kanye with a child in the sketch is stupid, because of course the things Kanye says are going to seem silly coming out of a child's mouth. A child doesn't have several critically acclaimed albums under his belt. A child doesn't tour around the world. A child doesn't spark media outrage every time he opens his mouth to say anything. All Kimmel is really saying is "boy, things would sure be different if they were totally different!" which isn't saying anything at all.

I also saw this earlier. While I don't agree with it word for word, she raises some excellent points:

Guess what else came out of Kanye's words? A lot of cheap personal insults in ALL CAPS and stupid meme pictures featuring Spongebob and a sexist slur.

But yeah if you call Kanye childish you're being racist, sure.

I don't know man. I know a lot of white celebrities that get shit for being blowhards and lacking humility: Donald Trump, for one.

I wasn't commenting on any of that other stuff, just the interview vis a vis the sketch (I haven't read any of the twitter meltdown yet).

And again, I did mention that I didn't take those tweets word for word, just that I found the perspective interesting. I'm certainly not going to argue if someone tells me they think Kanye has anger issues.

I'm not going to speak to the issue about Kanye and the fashion industry. I don't know anything about that world, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised if there were racial issues that are holding him back from succeeding there.

I'm still trying to figure out how Kimmel exploiting Kanye's own words with a silly skit with kids feeds into that notion, however. I feel like it's really, really reaching.

I'm certainly not going to argue if someone tells me they think Kanye has anger issues.

It is very disappointing that the larger issue of 'why can't a black man break into the upper echelons of fashion design' (something I know nothing about and would love some perspective on) is getting ignored but really Kanye sabotages his own message with an egotistical outburst (IN MY SHOES YOU GET WORLD CLASS PUSSY) the way anybody with something smart to say gets crushed by personality flaws that froth to the surface easily. I get that prominent black americans are scrutinized way harder when they get angry and that societal pressure against black stereotypes are a large consideration in their (lack of) social mobility. I wonder if Kanye's existing fame and wealth also get into the way of cutting the kind of sympathetic figure that would get him more ears. It's very hard not to look greedy when you're in his shoes, and black or not it's getting harder in this American economy to listen to millionaires hollering about how they want more and aren't getting it.

I really wish I could be surprised about Kanye having a rant like this, but I'm not. Its a shame that the point he was trying to make in that interview ended up getting washed away from attention by his behavior. There's a reason why too much pride is considered a character flaw.

Kanye already spelled it out in his tweets and ive already said it in this thread already. As a musician, it resonated with me on many levels. If it didn't for you, that's fine. But telling people that they're stupid for it is just petty.

This is why they used a kid in the skit, to show Kanye how childish his behavior and remarks are. It's why he's so mad, because deep down he knows he got owned.

Kimmel wins, unless Kanye hires a hitman.

So many people have words for Kanye who was the one who was insulted, but don't have shit to say about Kimmel. I don't blame Kanye for being upset because Kimmel essentially took a candid interview, mocked it and took it out of context. For example, when Kanye said he was the no.1 rock star on the planet, what he was specifically saying was that rappers are the new rockstars and that since he is the top rapper therefore he is the no.1 rockstar.

I'd argue that Kimmel probably didn't even watch the interview and was just doing a bit to riff Kanye. As evidenced by his rebbutal to Kanye's tweets where he goes on to further act like he doesn't know what Kanye is referring to.

Kanye's message and the contents of the interview are completely irrelevant. Kimmel is a late night talk show host. They have to generate 42 minutes of content 5 days a week.

It is milquetoast comedy and they will target anything in pop culture. It doesn't matter if Kimmel watched the interview, it doesn't matter what Kanye said in the interview.

Looking for any deeper meaning in this is just grasping at straws.

Why would anyone have shit to say about Kimmel? He is a comedic late night TV host. He, and all the others like him, make fun of people every night.

It wasn't some personal insult, it was a comedy show, that I'm sure has an entire staff of writers, doing a lame ass skit they found funny. There was literally nothing for Kanye to be offended about. If he had just let it go, nobody would have evern remembered the skit by breakfast the next morning.

but Kanye's response is what makes Kanye so hilariously awesome. He can't let that shit go.

I don't get it.

People keep taking "sides" in this thing as if Kimmel actually wronged Kanye. This isn't new. Everyone in this thread has laughed at a comedian taking a shot at a celebrity at some point in their lives. This isn't new.

Do people feel that Kanye is on such another level he just gets to be all by himself in the untouchable club, or what?

I guess what I'm saying is that the general vibe from this thread is that Kanye should shut up when he was the one riffed. Now as you said it is a comedy show, but a celeb is as much of a person as you and I are. If he's offended, he's offended and celebs do get offended by these Late Night bits. Craig Ferguson for example once commented how an actress absolutely refuses to be on his show because of a bit he did once. So while it's a joke, it's still a joke at someone's expense.

Also to partly answer your question: Kimmel's delivery and rebuttal was smug at best and Kanye is an easy target since people know they can get a reaction from him.

Not at all, but as stated Kanye is an easy target.

Skin color isn't the only difference between Steve Jobs and Kanye...

The joke of replacing Kanye with a child doesn't have anything to do with him being black, it has to do with him being a clown. Fifty Fucking Cent made more savvy plays with his cash than Kanye has. Having helmed some good albums doesn't buy anyone respect on its own in my book. Dude shows he can pivot into anything else and we can talk again. Crying "glass ceilings" for black musicians while JayZ, Dr Dre, Fiddy and the like keep on keeping on stacking that cash in a range of luxury and brands and markets.

Saying things like "my album was the first honest work in years" is such a ridiculous, self-centered, juvenile thing to say.

People don't call bullshit because he's black, they call bullshit because he spits bullshit every time he opens his mouth.

Steve Jobs was a megalomaniacal jerk who got where he wanted to by force of will and--. Kanye's got the first so let's see the second. Leather jogging pants and turning his trophy status-symbol wife into a couch isn't going to cut it.

Turbografx-16, Sega Genesis, Amiga, 3DO, Nintendo... Kanye seems pretty knowledgeable about legacy consoles based on that 4th video.

Oh boy. Pulling the race card. These people on twitter. God damn.

The Lowe kid looked the part. Really though, as someone else pointed out this is typical late night skit material. Making comic material from things celebrities do is nothing new for these shows - black or white, male or female.

Having watched the first three parts of the original interview Kanye seemed ernest and passionate about his ambitions, but it didn't make it any easier to sympathize with someone who gets angry when he can't walk in and contribute to architecture, fashion design, industrial design, etc, on his own terms when he likes.
