It's more about the humble beginnings of id software and their rise in the videogame business. As someone who grew up during the whole Commander Keen/Wolfenstein/Doom/Quake scene j found it very fascinating. I felt it portrayed both John's in a realistic manner, they aren't perfect and can be assholes but there was something very special about both of them and when they teamed up to work together amazing things happened.
