John Davison leaves Gamepro, goes to...GameSpot

At least he sounds excited about an upcoming venture. It sounds strange to hear him leaving GP so soon, but if opportunity knocks, you answer the door. Good luck to you, Mr. Davison.

Davison *rocks*

Love the guy, and his work with GamePro was fantastic. One of the best game mags/sites out there now. Excited to see what the future holds for him.

Agreed, in his short time there he totally turned Gamepro around and made it one of the few gaming sites I bother to visit.

Would like to see him get back together with Green.

Just about the time my Gamepro sub is going to be up. I liked the mag for the most part, but their new reviews section is a bit iffy. It reminds me of those days when I was a fanboy compiling praise for my favorite titles.

Taking a laughable institute into a good one? Their site is great now.

it looks the same as ever to me. although to be fair i've barely visited it in the past. in terms of quality my impression from has always been that it was/is a pretty terrible magazine

The amount of job movement within the industry is near comical.

It's probably nothing compared to the retail and hospitality industries. Even IT would see a similar amount of movement. Seems quite average to me.

I can't speak to the quality of the magazine, only the material on the website, and I think it's seen a significant improvement. The mag could be identical beyond the layout for all I know, I've seen an issue or two of since he took over, but nothing before so I can't compare. It's no Edge, but then, nothing is. Gaming magazines have never been a shining example of excellence.

The man completely turned around Gamepro. Davison knows what he's doing.
Yeah, my fear is that perhaps his amazing turn-around for the mag has led to less-than-stellar turn-around from the business end :-(

Please don't change from here, GamePro!

This thought came to me, too. It's TOO good, ya know?

That was FAST. I don't have any "inside info" on this, but I do know as recently as 2-3 weeks ago he was making longterm editorial budget-type plans for GamePro. Weird.

Wait, what's with the flood of praise for Gamepro now? I haven't read the magazine in years so I'm out of touch with it, and very surprise to see GAF of all places praising it. Is it really that good?

I hope to be hearing him on Weekend Confirmed soon. It will be good to hear about all the iphone games and free-to-play MMOs of the past few months...

There were quite a few topics on the new design and editorial direction of the magazine and it was directly attributed it to him.

Yes. Best gaming magazine on this side of the pond, without question. Agree with the comments on the reviews section (although they just introduced their "old-is-new-cribbed-from-the-old-CGW" approach last issue, so it may be on the rise in terms of quality), but everything else was golden.

He planted the seed, I think (hope?) he left a lasting impression. Definitely pick it up on the newsstand, if you get a chance.

Do people stay in a company for more than a year anymore?

Given the fact that John is probably one of only three gaming media personalities that I ever really respected apart of me hopes he would do something that I could find myself able to hear his thougths and opinions.

To bad his first none Gamepro gig is Bombcast.

Surely, based on past comments, it's another magazine. I think that we can guess which one.

This is John Davison we are talking about here. You gotta understand at this point in his career with his resume he's only gonna be at top level positions. I'm honestly not sure where'd he go cause I don't know anywhere that's got a position open like that for someone of his ilk.

I have this tingling sensation that it's going to Apple products. ;) I could see him making a compelling pitch in that direction, and convincing some folks to let him have a go at it.

Wouldn't that mean he'd be working with Matt Casa?
