So has John Linneman or Richard Leadbetter of Digital Foundry indicated what they meant by "surprises" when talking about the next generation???

Richard: "and without giving anything away and not talking at all about platform comparisons. Uh I think people are going to be surprised. That's my takeaway there are surprises here. Right yes."
John: "I think we can agree on that there will be surprises."

Looks amazing! Like watching an animated Disney movie, and the character voices are excellent!


Originally I thought, Sony had Spiderman and Demon's Souls as big hitters at launch, but we now can add Astro's Playroom and Sackboy: A Big Adventure.

We know John is a big fan of platform games like Knack, so maybe this was one of the surprises.

Aren't DF shilling for Sony a little bit lately?

Don't mean to troll or start a discussion over it, but I would like to know if someone else's having this same feeling lately.

People need to make their minds up who they are shilling for, it changes every week!

Didn't NXgamer say something similiar in one of his vids. Would be prety shitty if it was just about a game and not a feature on the ps5 itself.

A bit, yes, but thats because Sony has actual next gen games and the hardware is looking great. Thats not to say that Xbox Series X is bad, on the contrary. DF is praising XSX too but there isnt as much to talk about as with PS5 and its lineup.

Yeah makes total sense. IMO the XSX doesn't have much of a next-gen appeal right now, so maybe that's why I'm seeing more coverage for the PS5 than for tje XSX.

Still loving their videos tho.

A month ago theybwere schilling Xbox because they refused to make a video of a video unboxing of the PS5. Come on people...
 
The surprise was debunked by them in the video about the ps5 BC. They don't expect it so good. About the perfomance only Leadbetter can be surprise to the minor difference in multiplat. It has reported multiple time by Sony the customisation in the ps5 is about improving the real perfomance, but no, let's continue to prize just the specs sheet on series X and ignore the work around the ps5 soc

We knew he was excited about Sackboy. I thought all the surprise hints had to do with Sony's better than expected BC.

DF are fucking video game industry shills. They are trying to put Big Hollywood and Big Book out of business! Shameful lot, they are.
 
the surprise was most likely that these systems are super close with the X having a slight performance advantage and the PS5 a slight loading advantage but both aren't really that for off from the other.
 
60 fps colourful platformers. Nintendo has been doing that for ages.

Sony does it and for some reason it's the second coming. In the real world next gen only and unoptimized godfall can run on an old ass i-5 or even FX processor 8gb of ram and a 1050ti at 1080p 30 fps medium preset with ease.

I thought the next gen machines were going to leave all but the greatest gaming pcs in the dust.

All these Sony exclusives can run on a ps4. There's no reason why demon's souls can't hit at least dynamic 1080p 30 fps. PS3 enemiy count and corridor level design after all.

Ratchet seems to be the only true ps5 exclusive

The surprises is the 20% advantage in GPU is not showing up in head to heads.
 
Imagine if he said "cool, well that's that, don't bother tuning in guys."

Of course he's gonna say there are going to be surprises. These consoles are going to trade blows.
 
With Oodle texture compression and geometry engine still to come, I think we all are in for some surprises going forward. None of the games so far has even scratched the next-gen surface, and that goes for both consoles.
Just the culling capabilities of both machines will change the raster pipe alone. Combine that with a friggin firehose of data delivery, the possibilities becomes kinda mindboggling.

Edit: Seems I got flagged for flaming, so for clearification when I said both consoles, I ofc meant both the Series X and PS5.

Unpatched base PS4 games ran at a higher resolution than XBone so same for PS5 vs XsX for those games, Hitman had more stable FR, etc

all the embargos are up I think, so everything can be laid on the table. I don't think there's some magic secret sauce express being hidden somewhere

people looked too hard into this. the BIG surprise was 60 fps in some BC games. Thats it. its little things to US .

Going to say yes to this.

The 12TF - 10TF gap is closer than people think it is in terms of real world performance.

That's a given due to other parts of the GPU being stronger on PS5. Biggest suprise to me is the 'lightning speed' of the SSD is nowhere to be found in third party titles right now.

Developers won't be able to really push or harness both console's strengths until the 2nd or 3rd wave of games hit. It's always like this at the start of every generation.

I fully expected the systems to be close in multiplatform games at launch. As time goes on the differences, strengths and weaknesses will start to show for both platforms. Which is why I maintained before in a previous post. Any comparisons made now between the two platforms is pointless. I'd wait for 3rd wave of games to hit and then compare.
 
I heard that one of the surprises is that the PS5 shrinks in size when your play time reaches 500 hours. Don't quote me on that.

I think he shortly said after that, they did not have a copy of Valhalla for the PS5, so don't think it was that.

This reminds me of when back in April it was said that "there are a lot more secrets to share", well needless to say, we're still waiting for those secrets to be revealed, unless those secrets were suppose to be the missing features... So those "surprises" better be something positive this time around.

MS got out of money after that 7.5B Bethesda/Zenimax acquisition, so DF cannot shill for them anymore, not for free at least ;)
