I was thinking "what why on earth would you make a jojo live action film" until I saw "directed by Takashi Miike" in there.

I think I'm okay with that.

Why Part 4? Why start there of all places???

It takes place in a small Japanese town and has a more personal/contained plot. That gives it the best excuse for budget reasons.

Cheaper than filming in multiple parts of Europe for Part 1.

Cheaper than filming in Germany and Italy for Part 2.

Cheaper than filming in Egypt for Part 4.

Okuyasu actor is like the cutest man in that cast... It's weird

I'm confused about this too, but I'm betting it will be one hell of a makeup job.

Oh god why

There's no way this won't turn out to be a trainwreck (just like all other live-action films based on animes). Will be interesting to see how the CGI stands will look tho.

Live action Rurouni Kenshin was pretty good though.

DIU is probably the hardest to fuck up, but chances this will be good are low, put in the wait and see category expecting a train wreck but it may turn out mediocre..

Japanese anime movies suck, but I found the Ace Attorney one weirdly enjoyable just because it's so ridiculous and over the top.

Qué hermoso Morioh!
(masticar)
No debe haber ningún otro lugar es tan bonita como esta ciudad.
Esto se siente como un picnic.

Miike is the best thing about this whole project. The casting I'm fairly eh on but its like trying to do a live action Fist of the North Star movie with a Japanese cast. Its going to be really hard to try and mimic that super jacked manly man face look.

They don't have cast non-Japanese people and still be accurate.

Well for one thing the main cast are Japanese :P

That was my initial assumption which I stated on the last page.

However, the producer explained and confirmed what we all knew.

Despite the location shooting in Spain, TBS producer Takashi Hirano explained that the staff decided to adapt the manga's Part 4: Diamond Is Unbreakable storyline since it features a Japanese protagonist in a Japanese setting.

.......

Hirano further noted that the original manga is popular worldwide and that the other parts of the manga feature protagonists who are not Japanese. If possible, he said that the cosmopolitan nature of the manga offers a chance for Japanese cinema to expand across the world. He acknowledged not knowing how many years this might take, but he thinks that he and the director share this dream.

Sorry for the bump but what I'd give for this to get a proper worldwide release ToT
Also will Killer Queen really appear in this? Cuz you know
they could just apply the plot of Persona 4 and have them investigate for the killer

I don't wanna give a history lesson, but unfortunately the Japanese film industry has a problem where they essentially do not hire people based on merit, only on who would generate buzz. It happens aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall the time, and it's super obvious. Movies like Lupin the 3rd, Terraformars, Attack on Titan, Gachaman, basically any anime property in the last 5-10 years has been near unwatchable because of this (and also basically they put the movies together by committee).

Do not get your hopes up, in fact, it's probably for the best if you just go ahead this never happened. It will only lead to pain.

Here's a good primer on why the Japanese film industry, and movies like this one, are garbage: https://www.japantoday.com/category...ording-to-distributor-and-producer-adam-torel
We do get some good ones though.

The three Kenshin movies that came out was fun.

So they are gonna get a white guy to play Joseph right? Unless the story is modified for the adaptation and he's not shown at all which would be ok.

Lol

Nodame, thermae Romae, attack on titan live action...all non Japanese ethnicity characters are played by Japanese. Japan also has a problem like Hollywood in casting actors.

Joseph role doesn't appear in the cast list so I guess he isn't in the movie.

I think it's more related to the (non)presence of foreign actors in Japan to be honest. I doubt movie studios want to go out of their way and find international actors.
And they have to speak Japanese, too, just like the very rare Japanese actors in Hollywood movies have to speak English.
