Jonathan Blow: PS4 is easier to develop for than PC and built around the Share button

wow, the MS conference needs to happen asap; the fanboy console wars will be epic to witness.. I actually feel bad for the mods, they will be overworked and underpaid like true middle management...

Most trolling is done in fun as a joke.......

Most jokes tend to have some level of truth or parody to them. It was a picture posted to discredit Jonathan Blow and Sony, nothing more.

Given what we know about the PS4 as a platform, there is absolutely no reason to discredit his statement or believe it was made in response to financial incentives from Sony.

How will Jblow feel when I use the SHARE BUTTON to share solutions to his puzzles and enable people to ruin the experience for themselves.
How do you know he won't design the puzzles with that in mind? What if he designs a puzzle that must be shared to be solved? :MINDBLOWN

I feel bad for jonathons blow indie dev career... even the Eat Sleep Play struggled, and those were some of the most downloaded psn games.

I hope his game will sell in the long run and that he'll be able to put his feelings on the side to offer his game on more platforms (for a visionary dev, he lacks vision when he doesn't want his game to be on a console at the center of the living room).

The guy is talented even if, I'll be honest, what I've seen from the Witness didn't click with me. Braid looked interesting, the Witness looks colorful but boring, the trailer was full of mazes like the ones on the back of cereal boxes. It scares me each time I read he's already created hundreds of puzzles for this game.

You act like this isn't a regular thing for GAF....

Everything Jonathan has said has been right but he's comments are so common sense it's headache inducing that he would even point them out.

Sure, that might be true of Windows based PC gaming, but what about the coming Linux revolution? Did you think of that, Jonathan Suck? (Burned, roasted, that's what you get.)

You lie Exodous, it's all money hats, it has always been money hats.

Seriously though, what went wrong between Blow and MS during the days of Braid that he is so bitter?

I pay much less for my games so compared to my Xbox 360 my PC has paid for itself over time.

Happy for you. There are a couple in this thread who are too insecure about any dev's praising consoles. Even if it is obvious and true.

LOL, the Linux revolution hasn't that been coming for the last 5 years or something?

Considering the bastions of the Linux movement can't get their decade old engine to run even close to comparably well, I'm doubtful of that.

A lot of devs have spoken about their terrible experiences with MS regarding XBLA releases. I believe Team Meat has a fair bit of hate for MS regarding Super Meat Boy's release.

I don't really see how that applies here though...there is no particular hate towards MS in his statement here. It's a simple truth of the PC as a platform. The PC needs to have a certain level of abstraction so that it can support a wide variety of hardware. It will never be as simple and as efficient as a console can be.

The PC's greatest strength is also its greatest weakness.

He has to fund a team, not just himself. The only product he currently sells is Braid and I'm sure those sales can only carry a team so far. I don't think Braid did Minecraft numbers. So I don't think a little Sony money would hurt.

He already stated he is using his own money to finance the game. He made a lot from Braid. Remember it cost him $200,000 to make and sold gangbusters on 3 platforms.

Microsoft is going to have a lot of work to regain their indie reputation if they even want to get it back.

You act like that should be an excuse for it.

Save the headache for the interviewer - Blow isn't pointing anything out unprompted, he's just answering a question directed to him.

He said if The Witness breaks even, he could afford to make another game before being in trouble, so he'll be fine.

PS4 seems pretty strong.

Now, the real question is - who do you think will win in a fight, the PS4 or a Chimpanzee?

Every other day we get to read something Blow said and it's starting to be a little too much. I'm convinced the PS4 is a "better" environment to work with for the developers but we now get to hear it too much from the same guy.

Typical pre-launch PR really, we all heard it before. It's in the interest of developers for PS4/720 to take off, so it makes sense.

He will run away.

Ermmm.. what?

I'd like you to point me to a GPU that has higher bandwidth that isn't 400 bucks. Not everyone has money to throw down that much for a gpu.

Also, you've got PCI as a bottleneck between the GPU and CPU unlike the APU's.

Not that bandwidth is an indicator of superiority considering Nvidia's current offerings versus AMDs in that regard (Nvidia's cards having less "bandwidth" than AMDs but yet superior performance).

The AMD Radeon HD7950 has 240GB/s of bandwidth and can be had for $289

If he is so soft spoken how come we have a thread basically daily about the same guy and the same topic?

Because some outlet interviewed him and is letting the articles trickle out and users on GAF are posting threads about them because that's what happens on GAF? Blow is engaging in completely normal behavior. What happens to that interview content afterwards is not his problem.

make it 10. There won't be linux revolution unless all new PC games can be played on Linux same reason why macs are just 2-3% of total market share.
I don't think that's why Macs are in the vast minority, they're considerably more expensive for a comparable system, you can only buy them from Apple, they can't really be upgraded, lots of people don't have experience using OS X, etc.

I have I think 180ish Steam games, about half play on Mac, that seems pretty reasonable to me.

Not sure why there is such a PC vs. PS4 fight going on. They will both help push hardcore gaming forward. They will have a fantastic co-existence. Stop the hate.

If you want to hate something, wait for Kinect Box to get announced.

Unless I missed the thread, the last one was him talking about Sony allowing to self publish, not being approached by MS and that was the main reason as to why it's a timed exclusive for PS4.

He said if The Witness breaks even, he could afford to make another game before being in trouble, so he'll be fine.

Yeah, even if it sells badly on PS4, it'll still do well on Steam and iOS anyway. He doesn't need Sony's money. I can only assume those saying so have had their feelings hurt.

I thought nVidia has much higher bandwidth... they have 300+ on some of theirs.

256bit interface with "effective clock rates" of 6008 Ghz

..that's... 256/8=32... x 6008... then divide by 1000 and multiply by 2... that's 384GB/s, which is much higher but that's in the 400 range. I didn't think there were 384 bit cards that got that high of a BW for that cheap.

So it is a fishing for hits thing

He's also not said it's not coming to the next Xbox at any point, and it could come to Wii U. I think people think he's much more pro-Sony than he is, I would imagine he doesn't care much at all about any of the first parties. If anything, the pro-Sony guy is the programmer on the PS4 version who worked at Guerrilla Games.

The "Share" button has always existed on PC. People have been streaming to Twitch since I don't even know when. It's been crucial for the growth of e-sports in games like Starcraft and LoL.

Not sure how the PS4 would integrate it into gameplay or if anything like that is even possible.

Linux revolution has been on the horizon since the late 1990s. I was so caught up in the hype back then that I installed Red Hat into my system but then promptly went back to Windows when I realized Linux couldn't play any of my games or run any of my applications(it only had shoddy imitations of those apps).
