(From the the official website)
Joss Whedon, creator of the groundbreaking cult favorites, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," and "Firefly," returns to television and reunites with fellow "Buffy" alumna, Eliza Dushku, for a thrilling new drama, DOLLHOUSE.

ECHO (Dushku) is an "Active," a member of a highly illegal and underground group of individuals who have had their personalities wiped clean so they can be imprinted with any number of new personas. Hired by the wealthy, powerful and connected, the Actives don't just perform their hired roles, they wholly become -- with mind, personality and physiology -- whomever the client wants or needs them to be. Whether imprinted to be a lover, an assassin, a corporate negotiator or a best friend, the Actives know no other life than the specific engagements they are in at that time.

Echo acts with no memory of before. Or does she? Confined between missions to a secret facility known as the "Dollhouse," Echo and the other Actives including SIERRA (Dichen Lachman), are assigned engagements by ADELLE DEWITT (Olivia Williams), one of the Dollhouse leaders. After each scenario, Echo, always under the watchful eye of her handler, BOYD LANGTON (Harry Lennix), returns to the mysterious Dollhouse where her thoughts, feelings, experiences and knowledge are erased by TOPHER BRINK (Fran Kranz), the Dollhouse's genius programmer.

Echo acts with no memory of before. Or does she?

As the series progresses, FBI Agent PAUL BALLARD (Tahmoh Penikett) pieces together clues with the help of Russian informant, LUBOV (Enver Gjokaj), that lead him closer to the Dollhouse. Echo stops forgetting as her memories begin to return, and she slowly pieces together her mysterious past.

Produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Mutant Enemy Inc., DOLLHOUSE revolves around Echo's blossoming self-awareness and her desire to discover her true identity. But with each new engagement comes a new memory and increased danger inside and outside the Dollhouse. Joss Whedon directed the pilot and serves as executive producer and writer. Liz Craft and Sarah Fain are co-executive producers.
Or, just watch this self-explanatory feauturette "Understanding the Dollhouse".

Rules/Guidelines:

I don't really think we need to establish official rules or anything but just to make sure, spoilers and discussion them of are to be spoiler barred. This includes end episode previews and clips. Also, if you have any suggestions for guidelines or what the OP should include, feel free to make them and I will do my best to include them.

Whats the over/under on # of episodes before FOX shitbins it and makes Whedon look like the battered wife again?

Its Joss Whedon so Ill watch but those characters look bland as hell from that shot.
You can tell how the characters will be written from a promo shot? :lol

I'm looking forward to it, but i'm not exactly excited.

Looking forward to it! The press has been somewhat uneven, so I'm not sure what to expect. Still, I'll give it a few episodes and see how it comes together.

Very excited for this. Hope it doesn't get canceled...

I love Joss, but yeah this isn't looking to good. It feels like every other show in terms of "trying to be different."

Of course i'll watch it. I just hope his characters have expression like they always have.

It's an original, but risky, idea. I hope Whedon still has the chops to pull this off.

When I first heard of the concept, I was worried that it might be a bit too weird for general audiences and suffer the same fate as Firefly. All the advertisements thus far don't seem quite as focused on the Sci Fi element, so hopefully audiences will give it a chance.

Joss Whedon show. On Fox. On Friday nights. Has had little, if any, advertising. Premieres next week.

It never had a chance. =\

Hmm... Whedon + Dushku lead role + FOX... It won't last 10. Which also means that this will be a show I will inevitably enjoy, because I'm a masochist.

first!

Ill catch the first episode on hulu. Hopefully doucheku doesnt ruin it

Agreed. I'm a total Whedon fanboy, but while Eliza Dushku was passable as Faith, I don't think she has the acting chops to be the lead of a show.

I'm 99% sure that Fox is going to axe this and Terminator anyway, so I'm not going to get too attached to it.

Whedon would probably be the fault in your equation there as I believe Tru Calling was a Fox show and it managed 25 odd eps (actually 30 something but Fox didn't air them all in the US).

Tru Calling was a surpisingly good show actually.

Tru Calling was the show I was thinking of when I put her in there. I guess I forgot it lasted that long, but you have to admit, it doesn't help the situation here.

I also liked Tru Calling by the way, thought it was pretty fun.

It's been advertised rather heavily the past two weeks. Especially during American Idol.

Personally, I've only seen maybe 3 promos for the show, all of which were from this past week. I don't think it has gotten anywhere near the same push as Fringe or even Terminator.

I haven't seen too many myself but I do know they have been advertising the show during Idol and Lie to Me. They're just advertising it in the shows I don't watch. :P

eliza....mmmmmmm.

pretty much the only reason why ill watch the show.

I've never done that before. But I felt like I needed to, despite it being that easy.

And I disagree that Eliza Dushku can't act. Granted, she's not the best in the business by any means, but she's enjoyable. I think this show will either prove her abilities one way or the other.

I love everything Joss Whedon has done...with the exception of Serenity. I just can't help but feel apprehensive about this show. I don't know why. The premise sounds alright but the reviews say that there is a lot less humor in this than his other shows. When you combine this with Whedon's knack for killing likeable characters and you have a one way ticket to hell.

Does anyone else think this show is destined to fail?

I mean, I think it looks marginally interesting myself. It just seems like one of those shows that SCREAMS "cancelled" after 6 eps.

That, and Kings.

Does this thread honestly need to be littered with endless "CANCELED AFTER 2 EPS" comments? Let's actually watch the show before worrying about it's life capacity. =/

I don't think Eliza is bad by any means, but i don't see her being capable of living up to the shows premise. She has never showed much range.

My immediate suggestion is to fix the ugly stretched version of the poster that opens the thread.

This won't last a season.

Which is good because this show looks stupid as hell. I honestly don't get the Whedon hype, unless his career is an appeal to those with a martyr complex.
